Reed! The quality, production, information, education and story are all top-notch!! You’re able to show the world all different types of weather phenomena. Like this small scale flash flood and make is super interesting!!! Thanks!
My Dad grew up in Nevada and he always told us to take flash flood areas seriously. He said it may not look like anything right now but if there is a storm up ahead of it, it is dangerous. I will always remember the campers in Colorado who got caught in a flash flood because it had stormed up north of their area. Many drowned.
Your educational expertise, significant skilled experience, and your easily accessible + clear education are invaluable to SO MANY. A very wise man said "I could care less about your level of success, show me your level of service." Your level of service is showing Reed! Thank you for sharing your expertise, time, + energy to educate, prepare, and support people. You are so impactful! You are changing and saving lives through warning and education. Grateful AF.
Dr. Timmer your channel is amazing, the incredible footage and information you put out is fantastic. Thank you so much for the work you do! My heart goes out to the people and property affected by these flash floods, it is devastating! I wish your content would get the recognition it deserves, your work is so important, to so many!
Oh my goodness! Hope everyone was safe including our precious animals. Very scary especially from such a small amount of rain. Thanks for being here for us, Reed. You truly are a sight for sore eyes and a godsend to all.
Reed!!!! I am in Phoenix and the weather is so lovely rn. So grateful we are getting a break from that intense summer heat. I am absolutely loving the videos and learning a lot from the bits of info you provide. I am starting to hear some thunder now, yay!!! Thank you for all you do and let me know if you make it to Phoenix! Stay safe everyone affected by these flash floods. 😆😂🤣😍🤩🌵🌵🌻🌻
Hi there! This is really great footage. The drone footage is so smooth and clear. You make it really clear what happens during a flash flood and what the cost will be. As long as we have weather like this, I’m glad there are people like you who educate in a really fun and exciting manner. I live in Albuquerque, and we always seem to have people drown because they are in places they don’t belong like arroyos. We were always taught to stay out of ditches and arroyos because of storms, especially during monsoon season.
Welcome to AZ Reed! When it rains it pours! Thanks for all your hard work and dedication I have been following you for years! You always keep it real and no BS! Stay safe my man!
Those floods look quite nuts! Something very similar apparently happened here in New Mexico near Ruidoso in the McBride fire burn scar. It’s a very sad sight to see but it definitely is a huge quality in disaster. Nice vid Reed!
On the Santa Clara River... UT... We had 1.5 inches on a 5 mile stretch of the River south of Gunlock. River came up a few feet, laid down the riverside brush quite nicely. It was overnight but the river is still running about 10x normal and running red.
I'm in Washington City. I was chasing the storm in Kolub but there was only a nice sprinkle to walk around in at sunset. We got drenched last night here, but I will have to go check out Snow Canyon and the Gunlock area.
@@4theLord1 I drove Gunlock rd. after posting. There is lots of mud poured off onto the highway and a fair amount of rockfalls. A grader had to move a bunch of mud and sand off the road. There is a helicopter camp at the lake as they had been fighting the Dodge Springs lightning fire on the border. It’s gotta be about out now. Storms predicted again today! I was up in the Central area last eve for the storm, got some good pics, lots of lightening and some hail.
Extreme north Las Vegas checking in. Crazy thunderstorm swept across last night bringing lots of rain and an amazing show for my new camera. Stay safe reed
Debris flows were something we were very concerned about following the 2020 fires and the 2017 fire in the gorge here in Oregon. There are still areas closed to foot and vehicle traffic. A lot of people in 2020 said that things would have been better if there weren't so many trees. While there may be a need for some land management changes, those trees and vegetation are needed to mitigate heavy rains such as the one you showed in this video.
My ex (my daughter’s father) and my daughter’s fiancée’s brother live right in that flood area. They’re headed to here (Albuquerque) for the planned-for-months Engagement Party on Saturday. My daughter’s fiancée is head of the Middle Rio Grande Section of US Fish & Wildlife, so he’s being interviewed by National media this weekend regarding the Rio Grande which is currently running dry. What a coincidence, right? Just sent this to them! Thanks for being my favorite storm-chaser! From Albuquerque 🌶🐈🌶
the vegitation stops runoff more than people imagine.whenever the field beside my house has corn growing i never have runnoff issues.its like a hundred acres of sponge next door.
Poor Flag, they really don't have the resources to deal with Apocalyptic floods (or fire!) we're all "blessed" with very few fire companies in rural towns, wherever we are. The ash & debris actually NEEDS moisture to settle down & grow native plants to stop erosion but it takes a few years to recover (without drought!) been there in 2017.
Flagstaff isn't a particularly poor or small community. It includes some of the most expensive real estate in the state of AZ and from that I would assume has the benefit of a healthy tax base.
I lived in Flag, I'm betting this is fairly new construction (that probably should not have happened in the first place), an old Indian once told me...."never pitch your tipi in a flood plain"
Incorrect. The area that got flooded is Coconino estates, which has existed since at least the 60s of not earlier. The reason it flooded is that, earlier in summer, there was a huge fire on the Peaks. Unlike in the desert washes, rain water in Flag is usually absorbed and slowed down by plants in the forest. Since a large section of forest was reduced to ash, nothing stopped the rain from coming downhill and carrying all that fire debris with it.
I work for a county road dept up here in the PNW and I'm impressed with how well they prepared. That was quite frankly amazing. It's amazing what can happen with an accurate forecast. Maybe you need to come up here and explain to our meteorologists why they need to be more accurate.
Reed you should come out to the Hopi reservation about 2 hours east of Flagstaff Arizona. The washes here have been overflowing for days and now reached the homes by the wash.
Team dominator heck yeah I remember you on tv back in like 2013 this man is a legend ridding out tornados in the dominator I used to get a rush watching on tv can’t imagine being there

*I live in Virginia and have been on the east coast my whole life, so this kind of weather would be extremely unusual except in very localized areas that I have never lived in here
Coconino County did a decent job of cleaning up the area after a very destructive fire season but when the monsoon storms started rolling in 2 weeks ago, they had to start all over again. And we have been in a drought for a while so it just makes these flash floods more likely. Last summer az had a "once in 100 years monsoon"- the worst I have seen in my life for sure, and many areas didn't repair properly from those floods and we are all now paying for it 😬 We did move back to AZ from Virginia last summer and I was hoping to. E done with the stormy weather- we saw quite a bit of flooding in chesterfield County over the 2 years we were there.
We sold our Flagstaff Fort Valley (Snowbowl) home in 2013. Back then, never any flooding. Now you can't live without it flood insurance. Gonna be expensive as they are in the 30 year flood delineation period. Gonna be expensive. I am glad we are out of there!
All states should adapt a program to try and collect flood waters, as flooding is pretty much monitored in all states. The regular locations are known. So why is it impossible to harness some flood water?
you make it sound as if this is something out of the ordinary - when it is not. we have monsoons in arizona and flash floods are a way of life up here.
Yes. Just like tornadoes are normal in tornado season. Hurricanes are normal in hurricane season. This comment depends on scale. What are you saying exactly?
This IS out of the ordinary is Flag. Normally that water gets absorbed in the forest, but due to a fire, it flooded into town as well. Sure, some streets and drainages occasionally flood during monsoons in Flag, but that neighborhood (Coconino Estates) has never flooded before, and it's been there for decades. And by flooded, mean into people's houses.
