  • Katowice is a stereo isolator that allows you to manipulate a selected range of frequencies. Sounds mildly exciting at best, we know, but Katowice is capable of a pretty wide range of results. You can use it as a parametric EQ, DJ-style kill filter, stereo enhancer, and in many other band-selective applications. Katowice is the first module in a series of upcoming stereo Xaoc Devices products. It splits the stereo (or mono for that matter) input signal into three bands: low, middle, and high. You can control their amplitude either manually with a slider or via CV. The middle band center frequency and bandwidth have their own dedicated knobs, as well as CV inputs. Get ready for some serious stereo modular action.

Sounds simple in concept but the things you're doing with it in this video require further study. Great intro video.

In the first patch, how are you modulating Batumi’s lfo rate? Self patched?

Is the soundsource for the ~0:30-1:30 patch Odessa? It sounds like there's some reverb or other effects present as well, is that pre or post-Katowice?

Yes, Odessa is a sound source, also reverb is present in this specific patch but it is applied pre-Katowice.

Nice ! But.. it can be used mono to mono or mono to stereo or stereo to mono ? Or "just" stereo ? Thanks !

It can be used as dual mono or stereo. When using with mono you can use two different signals and different outputs but still you have one set of controls. Nice idea is chaining channels for more extreme filtering and saturation.

How does this compare to the Belgrad?

It is different approach and different sound. Belgrad can be much more aggressive and wild. Despite unique architecture and complexity Belgrad is still classic VCF. Katowice can be surgical tool with different set of controls. This module is great for subtle but complex animation, still it can drastically cut frequencies. Samples and complex signals benefits most here. Also it splits frequencies - this is powerful tool, for example you can add reverb or delay to high tones, set it wide in panorama and keep bottom end tight in centre or... whatever you want :).
