- Back at CES 2022, Space Explored had the opportunity to visit Sierra Space's booth and speak with Ken Sheilds, the Director of Commercial Market Development. We spoke about Dream Chaser in its Crew, Cargo, and future variants; the LIFE habitat; Orbital Reef, the company's planned Space Station; future facilities; and what the future of space industries look like.
A massive thank you to Sierra Space for being at CES and to Ken Shields for graciously taking the time to speak with us.

Nice video. More of these.
Nicely done :)
Love scierra space!
Super cool! What is done with the aft section (motor). Does it reenter UN damaged?
The future is looking bright. I have a channel, and I'm always wondering who's watching. UA-cam only gives you a number with no clue as to who it is. So you wouldn't also be wondering, I'm leaving this little comment and a like.
👍
Excellent presentation on the cutting edge of space minimum gravity utilization for the betterment of mankind. Way to go Ken. Your potential is limitless! Thanks much!
Is there any plan on adapting the dream chaser to link up with either starship or Orion?
Why no front landing wheel?
A landing wheel in the front is not a good idea as that part of the dream chaser gets really hot upon reentry, and sierra said they had some issues with the analysis of the performance of tires in the space environment, so a skid eliminated those issues, they also said it's much lighter then a wheel, very simple, and a safe option, as the dream chaser has no steering on the ground either as it will be towed off the runway.

The Space Shuttle had the same problem, but how did they deal with the heat? I suspect the mass fraction and complexity of a landing wheel is more significant for Dream Chaser than for for the Space Shuttle..
Yet..What material is the land skid made of? it must generate a lot of heat and vibration, and be under considerable stress because of the drag due to the landing surface....
It also has less mass, so you can take more cargo mass to orbit.
I have a plan invention designs plan to develop improved to build aerospace with the boot rocket engine the under the bottom and the deep boot rocket behind the tailed of both space shuttle and the Dream Chasers. thank you
Ken, please call one of the Dream Chasers 'Farscape 1'...and get the cast of Farscape along for a PR opportunity...!
my simulation shows 191 on time measurement.
I’ll ride this monster bro
I love to watch the beautiful bird. The greatest idea for reusable space plane, but Sir …what have you done during the last 30 years ?
Will Dream Chaser launch on New Glenn?
Sure, in 2100... 😂
Sierra space guy didn't want to mention the 300 version can carry multiple nuclear warheads in low earth orbit and handle reconnaissance missions at real time . Pentagon be asking how you know 😂 average civilian.
This is classified information . 😂
you got a friend with a clearance 😂
@@dondulla8258 got , a white hat community friend who researches on space companies and their objectives in space his like a analyst & also a hacker .So most of the information is open source , and leaked data obtained from various industry partners and research I personally done to validate this points , I don't like vague information or companies lying to us . There's a. Unmanned version they are creating , it's a UAV that can carry military payloads in space recon satellites & other systems . Sierra space mentioned 3 models , 2 of the other models they disclosed information for are government . US cold war ethics have not stopped they have just discreetly evolved.
Why the handicap 2x4 nose skid? Even the X-37 has a real nose wheel.
8 years ago this company looked promising. But aside from some nice models, photographs and incredible rhetoric, it looks like this company peaked 8 years ago. Hope they make it to the launch pad.
It is unfortunate the Sierra is partnered with Blue Origin. Based on BO's history of all talk and no show this may never get in space. Stick it on a candle (Falcon) and actually get it in space! Or is this meant to just be another Jeff Bezos carnival ride?
