That was beautiful and covered all of the aspects that I personally also love about TLD. For me, even when I paused playing for a while, playing TLD always feels like coming home.
I love the game it is one of my favorites because I can get invested in another world and escape my own for a bit. Being a college student I can only play video games at night so The long dark is a nice way for me to unwind, even though some may find the game stressful, I love navigating the world and making my own story in survival mode. I like recreating the walking dead by staying at blackrock prison or a nice PV farm for a good long while. I've looted every region except HRV and I bought the DLC so I've spent many hundred hours playing the long dark especially during my school breaks.
While the love of the Long Dark starts with the game, my love of the game goes beyond just the game its self, it has to include the community that is tied to the game as well, it is the community I stumbled upon by wanting to learn more about how to play, which lead me to watching people on UA-cam and Twitch, this lead to getting to know, becoming fans of these creators, then collaborating with them, and every step deeper into this group of wonderful people, the more I wanted to, to be a creator myself, and help my fellow creators with anything I could offer, and every bit of energy I gave out, came back 3 fold and I am so glad to have been an early fan of yours JitWire, and I look forward to all the things to come
@@kirksteven4316 The community is so wonderful. I really can't express how great everyone is. There is really no other group of people out there like it. Thanks for being there from the start for this wonderful ride and the support you have given.
My favorite games are the ones where the "story" is created by you and your actions. The Long Dark completely excels at this and remains my favorite game as well. Everything you said is the exact feeling I have for this game, that and the fact that when you die or fail, its YOUR fault. There is no other option, whatever ended your run was essentially YOUR fault and that level of responsibility makes everything in a game that may seem "boring" from the outside so exhilarating every playthrough.
I love the start screen quote that mentions this. "You know, I once read an interesting book which said that, uh, most people lost in the wilds, they, they die of shame. Yeah, see, they die of shame. 'What did I do wrong? How could I have gotten myself into this?' And so they sit there and they... die. Because they didn't do the one thing that would save their lives. Thinking."
Completely agree. I love the freedom the game gives. There are other games like Rimworld, which is essential a story generator, but nothing else gives the level of freedom to the player that TLD does. Your the master of your own story in life and in death.
While growing up I began to love the northern landscape more and more. I love the scenery and all the animals so much. Baffin Island is the most beautiful place in the world to me. TLD will always hold a special place in my heart. Being the last survivor on this island called Great Bear. Feeling the wind in your ears and just being there is so peaceful. I’ve been around since Mystery Lake was the only region. It’s about the small things. Sitting on a rock to have a snack. Waking up to a hot flask by the fire with pancakes ready to be made. Packing the water for your next trip. Packing and unloading the travois. Executing goals. Enjoying the view or atmosphere. Having many choices of tea.
I have also been around since the time when Mystery Lake was the first region. Even then the game was magic. There wasn't much to see or do- true. But it was still nice to explore the whole map. The small things is one of the many, many things that make this game so great. Thank you for sharing why you love it as well. I always love hearing about what other players enjoy about it and their stories of it.
I got The Long Dark on Dec 23 2019 and I started playing story mode. I had no clue of the game mechanics and died several times while trying to learn the game. I became frustrated and set the game aside. About a year later I tried the game again and this time took the time to learn the game mechanics and systems. Since that time I've put in over 1,300 hours mostly playing Survival mode (Voyageur difficulty suits me just fine.). The Long Dark became my fav game. Periods of tranquility while walking and exploring gave me time to think and to resolve problems in real life. Then there are the periods of intensity - getting lost in a blizzard, getting stomped by a moose, learning a new region. Playing The Long Dark you are aways thinking and planning ahead while having to be adaptable to changing situations. There is nothing quite like The Long Dark. Liked and subbed, great video!
I remember my brother playing this on his computer probably 7-8 years ago, me and his friend were hunched over on either side as we watched, taking over the chair for turns. Our situation was dire, we were on the frozen lake with nothing, holed up in one of those ice fishing shacks. We didn't know much about the game, where anything was. We were starving in the shack and there was a blizzard outside, we thought we saw a house a bit further before the blizzard hit. Not knowing how long the storm would last, we had to strike out of the shack, trying to find food and more insulative walls... We found a dead man with a orange parka, propped up against a large rock. We took his knife and continued wandering for what felt like 30 minutes, following a more or less straight coastline, almost completely blind. Eventually some rocks faded into view, then an orange parka... All of us leaned back from the computer in shock at what had just happened. You always hear about people getting stuck in blizzards, unable to see where they are going and dying in the cold, but none of us understood what that really looked like until we played The Long Dark. Looks like the game has changed a lot since then, or pehaps it seems that way since I never got to see a clear sky
@@sirsnek6562 Oh there is still tons of bad weather and blizzards. Thanks for the story though, it was a good one and I think it really captures the feeling of what happens in the game when you get into bad weather like that.

Which doesnt make much sense outside TLD 😂 The atmosphere, the art style, the Aurora, its all so good. Youre right about the difficulties, too. Day 1 or day 150, mother nature is always there, waiting for you to make a mistake. 10/10 video, hope you make more!
Think i am close to 2000 hours now and i love the game, yes it was more fun at first when everything was new and you could not tell which zone you where in seconds after starting a new game, still happens with new regions though.

Ugh, that is really annoying. I'm sorry this happened to you. I will admit it isn't without its flaws (even though I love it anyway). Have you tried survival mode? Or yes, and then story mode just spoiled it all because of the issue?
@ yeah I would honestly play it again it’s a really good game. I wish someone could send me their save for around that point. But the story mode is magical. A few years ago I blew a tyre in the middle of nowhere in upsate NY and I walked to the nearest car shop during a blizzard. It was like a 3 mile walk and this game has been the closest to that experience for me. It gave me this weirdly fulfilling nostalgia
@@CloudlessStudio Completely get it. I haven't played story mode since the before they redid episode 1. So, it has been a while. I have been trying to hold out for the story mode to be complete. After 400h of TLD over a 8 month period and a 6 month pause your beautiful video made me want to pick the game up again
Awe, thank you and welcome back.
This video made me cry. It's my favourite game aswell
Thank you for sharing that. It means a lot to hear my video resonated with you. The game definitely has a way of connecting with people on a deeper level and I tried really hard to capture some of that emotion.
wow. what an incredible video. thank you.
@@patriotmu4741 Thank you, I'm so glad to hear that. It means so much.
Great video! Really encapsulated the ambiance. Very entertaining. Keep it up 😁
@@DecimusTheThinker Thank you! 😊
Im certain all the people who love this game are feeling your precise choosen words.
@@ephianlublurbl5583 Thank you! That was the hope. I wanted to make something we could all relate to.
@@jitwire And you did! Thanks for that :)
Always when a friend asked what my fav game was i say minecraft bc everyone knows it and if i say the long dark they want to know everything and ask stupid questions like cant you not just play other games things like that but if you are reading this and want to play the game i would it may cost you something but it is worth al the cents
I totally get that. I've had similar experiences. But the game is worth every penny.
great video!
Thank you!
There's many videos like this about TLD. Many love this game, including me :) It's such a gem!
It really is a really unique and special game.
I have to love it, 1000+ hours in the game 🙂
LOL, I so feel this. I'm going on 3000 hours. And this isn't even my original Steam account that I started playing it on... xD
Great video, thank you for making it.
Couldn't have said it better myself, absolutely love this game and based off of this beautiful description of an amazing game, you've earned yourself a sub❤
Thank you so much.
I love this game, easily my favorite. Its the only game that made me say, out loud: "Oh god, i forgot my can of beans in the prison! Im so screwed!" Which doesnt make much sense outside TLD 😂 The atmosphere, the art style, the Aurora, its all so good. Youre right about the difficulties, too. Day 1 or day 150, mother nature is always there, waiting for you to make a mistake. 10/10 video, hope you make more!
@@maple_sider Oh my gosh yes! Lol It doesn't help that I forget stuff all of the dang time either. But thank you, and I intend to. :)
Not everyone who loves TLD is a poet, but every poet loves TLD😂
LOL
your voice is nostalgic, reminds me of Sarah Connor from Terminator 2 when she has her narrative on the last half of the movie
@@JollywoodJoel Awe, thanks!
My favorite walking sim.
Lol, too true!
Great video. Thanks.
Thank you!
I love the TLD community.
@@TurkeySteam Same here. Just an incredible group of people.
@@jitwire I should've added the word "too" but that's what i get commenting 2 minutes before the end...
Well now I need to play this game
Haha, welcome to the club! Happy to have you!
Think i am close to 2000 hours now and i love the game, yes it was more fun at first when everything was new and you could not tell which zone you where in seconds after starting a new game, still happens with new regions though.
That is the one thing I miss as well. I loved not knowing where I was or going into new regions to figure them out.
@@jitwire Down in the mine now in the contaminated zone, quite fun, but rough since i tend to always get overweight :)
@BerraLJ Oh gosh yeah, there is so much stuff down there. It is hard not to get heavy.
@@jitwire Glad there are other ways than climbing to get around, the weight system is the thing i do not like in the game, 1 stick can stop you from climbing, very unrealistic :)
@@BerraLJ Yeah, I'm not a fan of that either. What other way do you think it could be handled?
And my wife always says the same thing when she sees me freaking out cause I'm starving or trying to make a fire while on the brink of hypothermia......."Why do you even like this game?"
Yep, I get that all the time from my husband as well. It can be stressful but it is good stress- and the fact that I can be so pulled in to even be freaking out over it in the first place?
I LOVED this game until I got to that bear quest which just didn’t load for me. I had to either restart chapter 2 or quit and I just couldn’t get myself to do it again.
Oh wow! Yeah, I can definitely imagine TLD helping to recreate that feeling again. It has a way of sucking you in so completely.
7:40 music or song name? I like it but wish songs were in the description
It is called "beautiful and sad piano cinematic" by Onoychenkomusic. I will update the description with it.
@@jitwire You may be the bestest of the best, I'll make sure to sub and like
@@casedistorted Awe thank you so much. ❤️
Why is no one making 100 day videos on TLD?
Just want to make sure I understand. But do you mean like how people do 100 day videos for Minecraft or Ark?
@@jitwire yes
I would be willing and would like to do one. I actually have a few ideas now. Thanks for the comment! 😊 Super excited about this now!
10 years... 10 efing years and they still haven't delivered the full story of the game. I don't care anymore. I'll just look it up for the story on YT and be done with it.
It has been a really long time.
@zaknafein
lovely and well said. new sub so havent seen the "funny" side yet but bravo for the "serious" side :) not many games have made me feel more alone or so immersed (and cold) .. I so crave that in games .. like minecraft and subnautica etc. this game is a rare one. cheers for highlighting that so well .. reinstalled
@@philmcmahon7415 Thank you for the lovely comment and for the sub. :)
Great video!
Thank you!
