Nice tip on the don't staple over a wrinkle, never thought about that before.

It makes it much harder to get a flat perimeter around the stool if you lock those wrinkles in place. Stapling small wrinkles is fine but the big ones should be avoided.

I was wanting to do a project just like this for my barstool ,it gave up the ghost finally, , no sewing, no piping, but I didn't get any batting...can I use a old polyester throw blanket from the dollar store as batting?
