Office Chair: Add More Cushion

- In this video I show you how I added more cushion/foam to my computer desk swivel chair. it was starting to get very uncomfortable and I decided that I needed to do this- at first I was a bit scared that I might completely ruin my computer chair but I figured that if it got too hard I would stop and put everything back together.
anyway, turns out it was fairly simple and easy especially since I had somewhat "proper" equipment.
Definitely recommend doing this if your butt is getting sore and you're sick of using your pillows...
you can purchase some official high density upholstery foam on Amazon amzn.to/2kIOx6F (affiliate)
Or (haven't tried with memory foam)
you could always purchase mattress topper memory foam or just regular foam off amazon

To remove the staples without tearing the cloth, just use a flat head screwdriver, push the edge of the tip under the middle of the staple, twist the screwdriver until the staple comes out a bit and grab the staple with a pliers and pull it out. Also after you put the new foam in the seat and put the black cover on, before you staple it up put the bolts back in through the holes loosely to hold the cover in its right place, stops the cover moving around and makes sure the holes line up.
Even expensive office chairs bottom out after 1/2 years ridiculous how these companies still put cheap materials and under engineered products out, so I bought a cheap chair and moded it.
I did this to my ‘racing/gaming’ chair because it got so bad started brushing my ass. This really helped and made my chair so much more comfortable.
The only down side is the foam had already worn down in less than a week and I’ve been sitting in my chair less since..
Encountered your vid while was researching how to reupholster my own dying office. I kinda know what to expect now, thanks. I'd just like to add if anyone's doing the same they should look up foam firmness and foam density to get an idea of what to look for in foam (and to understand the numbers from manufacturer). Rather just using more foam you can dial it down to how hard or soft you want it.
"it looks like a poor hungry famished chair that doesn't have enough to eat" hahaha
excellent work! I got an office chair that's flat too, I'm going to try this ~
+pointzero255 :D make sure to use a good tough material!
ive used my chair for a year and its straight plywood now
back to school
@@AG-fj7er I've upgraded my chair since then

@@jaspervn4722 any updates? how bad are the racing chairs?
@@zsno I've been sitting on my bed instead of the chair
You sound like Penguinz0
Holy shit he does
Litterally bout to say the same shit
Yeah, maybe this is his 2nd channel.
Someone link this to Charlie
was Legit thinking that as I was loading the comments
I just got my old memory foam mattress topper from when I had a twin bed and cut it to the shape of my chair, put that shit in a pillow case and boom it works like a charm
Perfect lol looks great. I did a chair after seeing your video... I thought "Pffffff, I got this", needless to say yours turned out better then mine did lol appreciate your work dude, thanks for the video.
I work all day on my computer, in my desk. I run a few online businesses and I have to stay most of the time on my chair. I've been searching for a solution for this and what helped me is a lumbar pillow from kebado.

Buy a dxracer gaming chair its so good for sitting for a long time. You could even sleep on it lol
That's not a good option because it will make you sit on it all day... and that's not healthy at all!
Michael Sharks
Yeah, I totally agree with you. lol
What if instead of more cushion, you added one of those self refilling whoopee cushion?
LMAO
I'm convinced these computer chairs are a scam. The padding disappears within 6 months and then it's a pain in the ass to add more padding. Most people just end up buying a new chair. And before someone says I'm wearing out my chair with my fat ass, I'm 6' 180lbs. I'm not that fat. This is America where the average office worker is a 220lb female. That's the benchmark, chair manufacturers. Get your shit together.
I wouldn't care at all about my pc chair looks if I had free cushion to make it that comfy.
The reason I watch this because my butt always hurt
Thanks for sharing! Looks like you didn't need to remove the original foam if you were going to just re-attach it though to save time.
thank you for this! I've had a great office / gaming chair with all the foam just too flat but didn't want to buy a new one.
i honestly honestly recomend a bigger chair, i used that type of chair and it affected my back.. if you use your pc a lot, go with a better chair alltogether
GREAT VIDEO THO, it was exactly what i wanted to see.
This thing changed my life.
Nice video, you did a great job of explaining what you were doing without overcomplicating it. There was not a lot of blah blah blah that i hear in many other videos like this. so Good Job!. Thanks for the tip about the bolts.
That's a great idea to just add the new foam to the old foam. I have a 3 inch foam mattress topper I have not been using.
a lot of haters here but thanks for posting the video. I now have a pretty good idea what I am in for.
YESS, you went with 2 layers, NICE! :D
Hmm I'm planning to just buy a foam cushion, strap it on or use anti slip pad or velcro. Then get a chair cover to cover up
Great Idea, and I like that you kept it simple.
Mine is way flat like its hard now and makes thud sound because it's just so flat
Anywhere i can fix the handles mines broken and is the same chair please help
I thank you for this video. Not ready to buy a chair and the only one I have right now is one with the same construction as this one. It had no arms so I had to make them out of wood. Not visually impressive but they work fine if you dont mind no movement. That said the seat itself needs more cushion so I plan to do what you have done in this video. Thanks for putting it together I found it really helpful!
very helpful thankyou
the chair im currently sitting in is nothing more then a piece of wood covered with leather theres like literally no cush to it at all
hi. 6 years passed. did you put any leather already?
Yeah.....what happened to the chair?
When you talk about wearing the right gear, I'm guessing those are not safety slippers you are wearing?
Sorry but that yellow foam is also too soft, even with two layers. You need high density foam. That foam will also bottom out when you sit. And, because probably it is old, it will not work as good as brand new one.
Do you have piles for needing 3 layers of foam?
you sound like moistcrtical i thought i found his side channel or something lol thanks for the tips!
I just use a pillow, it's not that good of a solution tho
Maybe just use an ergonomic pillow instead :)
What is the name of the chair and where did you buy it and the price range, please?
NICE
Didn't know cr1tikal had a tech channel
Thanks just bought one of these. Works really well.
Bruh hiw are you not penguin0
A little bit sloppy you say?
I fixed it up with the faux leather material i ordered later in the year.
@@TechManZ I hope that it looks better now ahah
Function over aesthetics. It looked fine look. We all sit in these seats and fart on them regularly.....so who cares.
WHY NOT USE A RAZOR KNIFE TO MAKE A SMALL CLEAN INCISION PARALLEL TO THE STAPLES PRIOR TO FABRIC REMOVAL? NEARLY ALL TEARING CAN BE AVOIDED AND REMOVAL SIMPLIFIED IN THIS MANOR. JUST A THOUGHT.
to remove the staples you need a flat head screwdriver and a hammer
Just buy a staple removal tool!
I Feel like I just watched a sewing scene from silence of the lambs
Give me your shirt Clarice...
lol
How can we add a headrest on the same chair?
This guy sounds like cr1tikal
Fuck.
I have a pretty inexpensive gaming chair ($100) and it has fake leather (synthetic leather) and no staples. I wanna add more cushion cause over the time it got flatter.
Is it sewed on or what?
@@TechManZ it is sewed on the sides, but on the underside there's more leather glued on top of the cloth that most chairs have (including the one in the video). And it's really strong glue
Or, instead of using 4+ inches of soft foam you could use the appropriate 2" of a higher density foam and shit can the old foam. Then the old upholstery would still fit.
I just recently purchased some faux leather and will be redoing this. Just gotta find myself some high density foam now.
Excellent. I'd like very much to see that video and would like to see what materials you use as far as foam. From watching a few videos I've gathered that for cushions of the size we need (1-1/2" to 2-1/4") the density should be at a 26 or better the density the manufacturer uses is about 18. So a density of 26 and firmness of 45 is what I've surmised. Therefore, they say to get a foam rating of 2645. Hope this helps you. When you upload that video I would love it if you reply to this comment so I can view it. If not, I understand. Best of luck and thanks for your videos.
Use a screwdriver for one thing can be used to bend the staples up so you don't tear up your textiles so bad. I'm sure there are other ways as well. OMG! I came here looking for help?!!!
It's easier said than done.
I've tried all different methods including the screwdriver. Screw driver method is inferior to the method I found on youtube which still did not work. staples were really embedded into the wood.
xoxo.

What the hell man. That chair is a dumpster fire...and also belongs in one. My back hurts just thinking about sitting on that.
Bruh that chair at the beginning would be more comfortable than mine :/
Thicc!!
Penguinz0????
Terrible chair job but very good video though :)
thats a $30 office chair...................dude................good job but.................js...
buy a seat cushion?
first
Thats an ugly ass chair
Why is kermit teaching me how to add cushion to my seat
Don't give up the day job
Use the correct tools man. There's no such thing as staples that can't be removed, but this side cutter you are using is useless for the job....
use gloves so you don't chafe your hands... you need your man card taken away you definitely don't work with your hands often.
Only a women would wear gloves and worry about chafed hands.
A real man doesn't need gloves. He just deals with it like the man that he is.
A real man doesn't care about something like a "man card". He does whatever he wants , how he wants, because he has confidence.
Maybe a real man wears gloves so that when he's knuckles deep in your girl, she actually enjoys it.
Lol shut up at least he did something you look like a frog
