Where do I put the opening balance equity that it posts. Do I just leave it in there? I know it shows up on my balance sheet and my accountant doesn't want it there.

Hello, At the end of the year 2017, I closed my quickbooks because I had too many errors. I then started an entirely new QB for 2018. Everything work well, except my Amex. Because Amex does not end or start on the first/last day of the month, this was an issue. I let it go at the time. Now I am reconciling my Amex and my beginning balance is 0.00 when in actuality it is a number. When I go to the reconcile button in QB, my beginning balance is 0.00 and QB will not let me change it. If I go to the next month then I can reconcile. Using your video here does not help me to change my opening balance to what I need it to be. Am I just stuck with it?

Hi Candus, your videos are so helpful! I was following the steps and I realized that the previous accountant never setup an opening balances for the credit card account that i'm trying to fix opening balance and account goes back to 2015!. I've thought since there was no opening balance it was going to allow me to create one but it only has the option of changing opening balance...I'm stuck here, when I click the ledger of each cc account they come out with negative balance and i don't know what to do from here. One of the cc only shows transaction history since June 2020. Thank you so much in advance for your help!

So can i look at beginning balance for Jan 2023 and use that beginning balance to fix 0.00 balance for June , or undo all previous reconciliation and start from scratch and put opening balance for Jan per cc statement? I created my checking account and started putting in payments, but I never put in a beginning balance. on this video at 2:37 seconds you can see a negative balance on the American Express account for -$600. Is this normal? I am showing a negative on our Visa account and my boss is saying we overpayed somewhere and I need to make an adjustment. Is this a correct statement? Do I need to make a journal entry to change that? Or is that how CC display at times? I am reconciling every month with no issues with the CC statement. Thanks for your help!!!
Greg, this is a sample file for examples. The only time the cc would have a credit balance and it be correct is if that’s what is happening on the cc account. Don’t do JE to fix it. That will probably cause you more problems. When you reconcile do you have old transactions waiting to be cleared?
@@CandusKampfer No I have gotten rid of all extra transactions that were left over after I reconciled. All the payments we entered throughout the year have been matched and are correct.
Earlier this year, my company started using a sister company's bank account (it was being used for our transactions but the balance included money the sister company input into the account when it was opened). I started reconciling the account in QB. Shortly after, the sister company withdrew the rest of their money from the account. Now, the only funds in it are our company's funds. However, the withdrawal is appearing on my P&L as an expense and reduces our net income. How can I correctly reflect bank starting balance and this withdrawal on my register so that I can reconcile my account without the cash withdrawal being recorded as an expense? Can I do a journal entry, or what should I do?

Opening balance shows a equity instead of balance transfer from the bank account into this new system in quickbooks.
