The citizens of Oakland are collectively responsible for the never-ending lawlessness in their city. Time and time again they elect mayors, city council members, judges and DA's who enact policies and make judgments that treat criminals as victims and victims as the problem. However, the chances that Oakland voters will vote for candidates that are actually willing to do what it takes to significantly reduce crime and hold criminals accountable for their actions is nil, and so their problem will only continue to grow.
Cities generally have the amount of crime that they are willing to tolerate, and clearly the people of Oakland are willing to tolerate a lot of it.

Now Kaiser Oakland is telling its employees to stay in during lunch time due to employees getting robbed at lunch time. Employees are encouraged to bring their lunch, order delivery and work more from home. Yet the mayor claims crime is down. If that were true the crime rates and the rates of businesses closing wouldn’t be sky high. More businesses will continue to close!

I have trouble feeling sorry for the residents when their own government is failing them so badly. The elected officials keep denying that there's a problem and business are being blamed for not wanting to continue to operate in a high crime zone. Let's move all the politician's headquarters into the area with no changes. Then we can see how the politicians feel about it. The residences are getting hurt by public officials who want to pretend there isn't a problem and keep hoping it'll go away on its own.
It's not a "failure" when you achieve what you're trying to achieve.

Worked for a contractors school and we would do classes by the Oakland airport. We would have to warn everyone about cars getting broken in. I believe they closed that site.
