Real person here who has had IPL in a clinic. When my doctor referred me to a clinic that does IPL hair removal, I was so excited. I didnt even know about the clinic around here and they recently moved theyre just up the road from me! Going once every month I started shedding and growing less and less hairs. 7 months later and the results are amazing. It hurts less each time because of less hair being there to the point it just feels satisfying knowing and feeling the hairs being targeted by the laser. They changed my life I never thought my face would ever be this hairless. Handheld devices.. I dont know about that. It doesnt feel anything close to how it feels in a clinic. I dont think they work unless you use it for years upon years, and maybe only get some results

Works grrrreat! Not as powerful as a clinic IPL but so much more convenient! I use the Kenzie and love it. Helps fade brown spots and broken capillaries too. You’ll have to keep it up like you do with any hair removal treatment. Even at the clinic you’ll have to keep going back.

I've had great results with doing a combo of laser hair and IPL. I found I could get about 70% of my body hair gone and then I could save money on the number of laser hair removal sessions I had to pay for.
I also found that once I got less hair in some areas, I no longer cared about being hairless there and have let nature take its course in those place.

I used Philips Lumea Prestige for over 2 years. I started on my legs and face first and later added new areas. Basically I don't have hair growing very much on my legs anymore. I shave them every 6weeks before a treatment and i only find the good old blond hair which are invisible and almost cant feel them by touch. I only see when i look at how much hair was removed by the razer and that's all. I think if you can afford it its great. But I have to be honest i didn't skipped more then 2 times in the past 2 years so you have to make sure you do the treatment. than its worth it a lot!

Same! :,( its so frustrating! I have tried IPL and Alexandrite lasers for my facial hair. Did that every month for 2 whole years but because the hair is so hormonal, some months nothing grew at all but others it was almost like I had gone back to step 0...
My mother gifted me an at home IPL device for Christmas and it has really helped me because I can take care of the hairs myself whenever they grow. This one works very very well for me, but I had some past experience with a cheaper IPL device and that one was absolutely useless.
Ive also heard that electrolysis was a much better option for people with hormonal hair growth (I was actually about to try that before I recived the IPL device).

@@catherinewilhelm809 The one I've been using is the Phillips Lumea Advanced and it has been working quite well! However IPL can only be used on light to medium skin tones and is most effective when your skin is light and/or the hair is dark. If your hairs are on the lighter side or you have a deeper skin tone I would definitely look into electolysis!

    • @HaneeFannee
      @HaneeFannee Рік тому +1

I have the same issues. Needing to shave every day. It has been debilitating to my self-confidence and self-image as a cis female. Electrolysis is by far the most effective method of hair removal for PCOS, but it is very costly and I simply cannot afford it. Home IPL, like Philips Lumea, does make a difference but it takes a long time and is never permanent. The major benefit (for me) is that I can do it at home when needed. It's a big initial cost ($300+) but once it's yours, it's yours. I have found that over time, hormonal hair is mostly growing back much finer or has stopped growing back, but this is a small area and I have been using since January weekly. Results are slow on my face, but I am starting to see them so I have no reason to stop now. For everywhere else though, it has taken effect much quicker and I now shave my body once every 2 weeks (with less/finer hair coming back). The only thing I can say if give it a go (if your budget allows) and to not expect results over night. Consistence is key.

Have been doing clinical laser on my underarms and my legs for about a year, and as someone with very fair skin and thick, coarse hair… it’s been an absolute miracle. So worth the price. Never had anything better. The hairs that do grow back and so much thinner and bearable that’s it’s like they’re not even there. I’ve never had to deal with itchiness or ingrowns for so long 😭

I do sugaring! I just started doing it so it’s a learning process. But I made my own, and watched some video tutorials and did it. And I’m in love with it! It’s not permanent as it’ll grow back at some point, BUT it’s environmentally friendly. I’ve found it’s also not very painful and super easy to do. Blood dew and bruising can be common but if you know what you’re doing, it’s not a problem at all! I recommend it to everyone now!

I actually had the large version and the portable version. I was wondering how the Ulike compared and if it really did much for hair removal. I'd much prefer to be able to do this at home just based off of the weird embarrassing factor alone. Although I am sure no one doing these procedures actually cares.

yes pleeease! I had some done before covid hit. Old lady hairs in places you don't want them sucks. My technician says it's the only way to (eventually) eradicate unwanted hairs because you zap the follicle where the hair begins. Laser removal is expensive and involves many treatments with varying results depending on your hair color, skin type and normal growth cycles. I wondered if she was right or just protecting her business.

I've done IPL in clinic with three different machines.
First one was axillary and bikini, three appointments, pretty painful but it got almost every hair and I barely feel the need to shave those areas 8 years later.
Second machine i did three appointments on my legs, extremely painful but it did reduce my leghairs.
Third machine is the soprano ice, and it's a bliss, only light tingling. Three appointments in and only the thinner lighter strands are left.
One of the best things I've ever done for myself.

I’ve tried all of these. And truthfully absolutely nothing has compared to in office treatments with a Alexandrite laser. After about like 5 treatments in any given area it’s like 90% hair free. Any hair that’s left is not noticeable but can be lasered also it’s just hard to justify the cost when it’s literally like so few hairs you could individually name them. It’s just such made a drastic difference coming from someone who’s tried every method of hair removal and had to shave at least twice a week.

For me waxing (or epilators) causes my hair to tear up in the middle (unlike cleanly from the root) and make way more ingrown hair and also leave red patches on the skin sometimes. I have never been able to figure out why. Is it the type of hair? am i pulling it wrong? Maybe hard wax can help instead of the ones i have tried. Now i just shave or trim the hair depending on the area, especially for legs and arms trimming is way better than shaving for me as the hair grows back in like a day anyway and trimming doesn't causes ingrown hair.

I'm surprised laser hair removal (which is different to IPL) done in salons hasn't been listed/mentioned here - and threading for the face!! Laser hair removal is much more powerful than the at home devices which is why it can be more painful. But the comparison in results can be huge with the salon laser being so much more effective - take this from someone currently between sessions that has seen the difference. I'm not saying it works for everyone but if you have dark body/facial hair that you want to remove from light skin I would recommend speaking to a certified medical spa (that carries out laser hair removal) for information. My face breaks out after waxing (body is fine with it) and also shaving gives me ingrowns so I'm so so thankful for laser - I lasered my facial hair apart from my eyebrows which I thread to be able to keep maintain my styles - its not painful for me anymore as I totally got used to it. Threading was only painful for the first few goes but not too bad

I don’t have as much hair on my belly now but it’s definitely gotten more since stopping the sessions and my face is pretty much just like it always was.

I also used IPL on face for years, but it keeps coming back.. Now I use laser, its a bit better but hair is still there (just not as visible and it doesn't grow back as quickly). In my case problem is that hair is very thick and dark and my skin is really pale and I cant not shave it between sesions. Maybe try laser or different place. Also using higher intensity helped a lot in my case.

Also they explained to me that it can be hormonal problem if it keeps growing back. Maybe check that too.

Hey Jasmina thanks for your reply! I think i was using the highest intensity IPL and I also had very dark hairs on pale skin. I didn’t need to shave between sessions (every 4 weeks), but now that I have stopped, I need to shave every week or so. Since it’s very expensive I’ve gone back to threading or shaving but you’re right, maybe it is a hormonal thing

I had a no no IPL I guess. I'm really dark and this worked perfectly on me. Annoyingly mine is on the fritz however my hair (now that I shave it off because my no no is broken and it costs a bit anyway) doesn't grow beyond the last time I used my no no. And the hair used to be super coarse and dark and now it's almost like face fuzz. I thought shaving would retrigger growth/coarseness but it hasn't affected it at all and this is like a year later now...really need to get my no no fixed or get a new one

Not me going down a rabbit hole today on the Ulike vs Philips vs Braun at home IPL then finding your page… yes please, detailed video 🙏 would be incredible on that!! I can’t decide :( I’ve researched for hours and I’m exhausted trying to pick which $150-300 device I’m about to purchase! they all have varying reviews too but most seem good!

The Ulike has the cooling sapphire tech that is certified in lots of countries, so I am leaning to that-but it’s a lot more than the Braun. I’m willing to pay if it’s healthier for my body though. That is of course the goal. I was also wondering if this has been studied on the surrounding areas of the hair as being safe? for some reason it seems scary to me like it may hurt my vessels or kills tiny skin cells ? I hope that does not sound naive. I would love to hear how it only affects the hair explained if you do a detailed video as well just for the science part 😅 tysm from a fellow Bay resident !!!❤ your channel is a lifesaver and I shared with my older sisters too 🎉

I have the Ulike too (the newer one) and it's been working great for me. HOWEVER. I had a major bimbo moment a couple of days ago where I wasn't paying attention and accidentally zapped part of my tattoo. HECK. THAT SHIT BURNED. My tattoo blistered pretty badly after that and basically became a 3D tattoo for a couple of days. It's peeling now, but I know I definitely destroyed a top layer of skin. BE CAREFUL WHEN USING AT HOME IPL.

i don't bother shaving my legs anymore; once I turned about 27 or so, the hair somehow started growing in so sparsely it didn't seem worth the hassle.
My underarms are a whooooOOOOOoooole other story! 😄 I have dark hair & pale AF skin, so the contrast makes it WICKED obvious; I also have dry skin & sweat a lot, which I feel combine to cause me to get stinky pits & FAST. I found shaving to be a hassle, so I started getting waxed (just as covid began, of course 😄). I go in once a month now & it's fabulous! I bled from a bunch of my pores the first time, even though it didn't hurt any more than having had my eyebrows waxed?! But that only happened the 1st time & it's been smooth sailing since then. Plus, I don't have that single ingrown hair in each armpit anymore!
It makes me feel much more secure & fair less anxious, since I rarely have to worry about my hair showing, and I almost never get stinky if my pits are hairless.
My ladygarden just gets mowed once a month with a beard trimmer, and I try to plan that around my cycle. :-)
I wear shorts style bathing suit bottoms, so I don't worry about my bikini line anymore, just take care of that the same way as the rest of the garden. 😆
I have considered at-home IPL and such, but it's so easy to just pop into the salon once a month, so I haven't invested thusfar. 🤷🏻‍♀️

    fun fact about ipl
as a guy who likes to thinker i was curious how effective it could be on me, but i didn't want to buy one so i did some reaserch how it works and , it end up it uses pretty similar technology as oldfashioned photographic flash light. and i did had one of those from the 70's.
i half hazardly flashed my thigs with it (because that a place i have most of the time fully coveredand and nobody would know) forget all about it becaus i thought it did nothing, i didn't even shave beforhand
few weeks late i noticed my hair there is mostly falling out and all that is still there is very patchy, short and stubu, look kind of burnt or broken, and this lasted about 3 months untill new batch of hair grow back.
so i got myself a different photo flash, smaller, handier and faster, didn't do a thing.
i got myself a proper ipl machine, it is so so but nowhere as effective as that flash lamp
at this time i started to read on spectroscopy of light and that old lamp at the end of it's life produces much more xrays and uv light than a working newer unit and in ipl devices those wavelengths are filtered by dichromic screens
but i also tryed ipl gun on a piece of synthetic lether just to see what would happen and i discovered it butnt in a square after just one flash
very intersting technology, working on light absorbtion principle by the way, for visable light it is everything dark and pigmented that would get the heat and cook up for everything light it would either reflect or transmit it deeper, but i presume uv or xrays from that unfilterd flash lamp went a bit deeper and had slightly different absorbtion band so it worked better on cooking the hair but i would also be afraif to use it more often because that would also mean it wasnot clinically aproved for everyday use for a reason, if it was ipl would be much more effective
