You loose the 360 but not to many people stand with heir back turned. The Mavics antennas aren't very good. Ive done a fly over in the forest preserves broke 3 miles on the stock antenna. Go into the burbs your lucky to get 2. Its dramatic. Kinda curious what Chicago would do to it lol. I know by me if I fly 800 feet south as soon as I hit the school its gone. Probably a lot of broadcasting out of that school. Go north I can get a mile out. The way you beat the interference is with a semi directional antenna like this. You'll push right through it. Depending on where you live and how far your pushing it. They do the job and the 360 degree coverage is not needed. Also on the stock antennas flying to a low altitude over a lake about 1 mile out I would loose reception on descent, scared me filming the water and scenery. Not with the directional (typically low altitude will cause reception issues as their are more blockages and interference). But yes, you are correct with your backed turned you'll loose more reception. Id say depends on the issue someone is having and what they want to do with their Mavic. I always face my Mavic, Stock Antenna or not. But if your someone that dosent want to orientate yourself like that, then yes Paul is right you'll loose reception. its about a 40 degree beam maybe a little more. Nothing you have to concentrate on as long as your facing the general direction. If your mavic is close by you'll still have 360 as well. Not all the signal is aimed. Also I might add the Mavic switches channels. So when doing your test runs. Stop and hover wait for the signal increase. I know in one instance i got an extra 3,000 feet just on a channel switch. The main issue is the 2.4ghz. Pass an apartment complex ohohohohoh. Everybody has wifi 5 feet from each other running on 2.4ghz. Schools, Cellular towers, other broadcasts. Altitude helps most those signals are low to the ground. So you'll get better reception closer to 400 ft. Wifi Signals don't shoot up very high. But the idea of this antenna is to focus the signal and blast through it. They do work. Probably your biggest benefit will be in the denser areas. On My 3 mile run through the preserve the only time the signal dropped is when i hit the houses about 3 miles out. Almost as soon as i hit them. The signal was already stretching and then the neighborhood just killed it. If the forest preserve continued and the houses were not their Ill bet i could of come closer to 4 miles. The directional antenna may have helped slightly but like i said the Mavic was already far out so probably not by much. KP Index is a big big factor too. Every drone user should know what that is.
what purpose does that big transmitter on your wrist serve?
Cool Vid, I've never seen the Titan perform well in a range test.

Paul Healey just snap on whips when you don’t want to use directionals
