    This is the best explanation of this placket I've seen. Very clear instructions. What is the cut width of the bias tape????

    • @ThoughtfulCreativity
      @ThoughtfulCreativity  Рік тому +2

      Depends on what you like, but I usually try to match the width of the placket, so if the placket is 1" then the width of the bias tape would be about 3" or so 1" back and front +1/2" for the folded edges).

    I have been sewing for years, but have never seen this explained so well. Your method looks so much easier than the explanation on pattern instruction sheets.

    I remember sewing plackets they are fun. I always liked the finish product. I would add buttons. I am going to use this more often. I think it gives garment more finished look.

    I have a very simple top pattern that I use a lot because it’s easy and it fits well. This is a great way to change the neck line and maybe dip my toe into pattern drafting? Alisa, thank you for everything. I can do this 🎉

      Deb, it is my pleasure and i am happy that you are finding value in these videos! I feel the same way - when you have a good base (pattern block or sloper or just a basic pattern) then sky is the limit. You can customize anything - necklines, cuffs, sleeves, closure options, added trims and what not. Definitely dip your toe into pattern drafting - it is amazing and so freeing, because then you can do anything you would like!

    I saved this one to my sewing tips playlist. Your instructions are always so detailed and easy to follow. I’ve used your facing video and bias binding videos as a reference during recent projects. Thanks for another one to add to my library!

    Your instructions are always clear and direct. My only suggestion is that for newbies like me, using fabrics that have an obvious right and wrong side. So often I struggle with understanding if I am putting right against right or right against wrong. Having white fabric on both side is hard. Those that just put Xs on the wrong side often don't realize that gets covered up as they are manipulating fabrics for sewing. I think you do a great job but making the fabric faces obvious would be a big help.

    • @ThoughtfulCreativity
      @ThoughtfulCreativity  Рік тому

      Brandon, hi! Thank you for the feedback, to resolve that on your end - just practice this technique a few times with your own fabric, whichever you prefer and you will understand which side needs to be where. Practice helps build your understanding and skills!

      Brandon K: I agree, I was trying to figure out was she on right side or wrong side also during the last part. At least she had lines drawn with different colored pens, that really helped.

    This was a great demo of what can be a difficult technique for many of us. I also appreciate the demo of bias neckline finish. Which of your videos will show how to complete the back neckline and connect this front bias pieces to back neckline at shoulders. Thank you.

    Please make a video that describes how to draft and sew a button up shirt. Or do you already have a video about that?
    And also, it would be fun to see a video about sewing a sort of a bit warmer shirt/jacket.

    great video. I have several shirts with this type of collar but that have a pleat at the bottom of the placket. Could you make us a video for how to create that? Thanks!

  • @lana7422
    @lana7422 Рік тому +1

    One other way to make a placket is to only have one placket lip visible and that would be the underneath side of the placket opening. The other side (top lip) would be the reverse of what you are doing and it ends up inside folded back from the edge of the opening. That way a plain side is what is visible when the placket is closed and a buttonhole could be at the top of that side; with the button sewed to the other lip of the placket underneath. A slightly different look that might be somewhat easier than doing the topstitching. I saw this featured twice in Threads magazine.

    Thank you for this video! I've got a Henley tee coming up! I'm getting my pattern ready for it now. Is there anything else I need to take into account when doing this in knit? I'm especially concerned about adding the neck band.

    Hello, you are demonstrating a 1-inch placket. What if I want only 1/2 inch finished placket width on a knit garment? How do you construct/sew such a narrow placket? This would be for a nightgown.

    When I try to sew close to the edge, my material pushes up into the gap in the sewing foot. Why is this happening?

    • @ThoughtfulCreativity
      @ThoughtfulCreativity  Рік тому +1

      I have had that happen just a few times and I don't really remey why it did. But You might want to try a wider presser foot, if you have one in your sewing machine kit.
