When you removed the dart posts, you made a lot more empty space. When the plunger moves forward in the stock blaster, the air that was in the (tiny) plunger tube compresses behind the dart significantly as there is no vacant space for it to move into. With the dart posts removed, the surgeons the plunger tube is now compressed into the space inside the dart, which is much larger and so the air is less compressed and creates much less force on the dart
Not really, with a plunger tube that small, the air inside the dart is the problem. When doing this yourself, if you want to fire short darts, you can remove the front half or so of the post and it will fire both darts
You are exactly right. I studied this quite a bit because I work for a product development group and we work on air rifles and some competitors to Nerf. Any change in air volume delivery will slow it down. Currently Nerf designs all of their chambers so the air is delivered to the tail end of the foam skirt only. You CAN cut out the stem but you have to also increase the spring pressure to make up for the loss. I really wish Nerf and everyone else would deliver the air to the whole dart body or up the center with a tube. For one, all the pressure being delivered to the foam body immediately starts degrading the foam. Secondly, foam is an impact damper and it absorbs the force and causes the dart body to bend when coming out of a short barrel, therefore decreasing accuracy. I have verified this with slow motion video.
I knew this would be what went wrong. Modern Nerf ARs are efficient enough that they shouldn't be removed. If you didn't want to replace the Quadrant's spring, you could improve the plunger head's seal and possibly brass the barrels. What I'd personally do is ignore the Quadrant and pick up an X-Shot Rapid Fire / TK-6, which is the same sort of blaster but with a larger plunger volume, a six shot turret and a screwed-on plunger head, making spring mods far easier. It is also significantly cheaper than the Quadrant.
I picked 2 of these up for 10.86$ each at Target. I modded both. The plungers were sloppy. I dry fired one and the piece of the white cylinder rotation mech that fits into the top of the plunger tube broke. I hate the trigger for not having a spring. All in all I think these are "better" stock lol
I'm pretty sure that it's performing worse because you took out the AR. I believe that style of AR is designed to create a seal between the plunger and the cylinder. I could be wrong. I think if you drilled a hole through the AR keeping it's spring in place you could have better airflow whilst maintaining the seal.
I've found its possible to remove the springs from plungers like that without damaging the plunger by taking a screwdriver and forcing the tip of spring around the plunger and slowing srewing the spring of of the plunger (though it is a major hassle) and a new spring can be put on with the same method
I feel like a spring replacement would have been the right way to go instead of an ar removal. and maybe carve out the top channel to give the plunger more travel length?
i agree for this kind of configuration, i would treat it like a jolt or a triad removing the ar for the triad makes it into a 3 shot burst gun but the air flow doesnt go properly into just one barrel as a result
The plunger head doesn't go beyond the open gap, the thing is literally a direct prime Hammershot; given it can half chock for reload and such a short draw, it is way better than Drac describe it. Of course, compare to the Zulu revolvers it have no performance advantage, so in accustrike tradition, it is a nice ergonomic blaster, but not practical.
That small spring you pointed out that presses the plunger tube against the turret, is it possible you didn't reinstall it correctly? That it no longer providing enough of a seal there? Or could it be that you'd over drilled when you were removing the dart posts and ruined the seal that way?
i know that hasbro has labels saying "do not modify" on their products, but the have to know the modding and DIY community is a thing. yet it seems more and more that they are engineering their blaster internals to be as difficult as possible to modify. like..."we know you want springers to shoot harder and that youll be looking to replace our spring, so were going to not only screw the plunger head in place, but were going to solvent weld it there too. good luck getting it apart without breaking it and ruining your toy you spent your money on." i feel like there should be metal plugers with maybe 3d printed plunger heads out there for modding purposes. a sturdier rod to take a heftier spring. then you could weld on a cross bad to pull on to prime it. idk if that would work or not. just a thought
how did you not know this? Removing AR's from elite cylinder blasters doesn't help because its just an Air Valve, not an Air Restrictor. All you did was create more deadspace have nothing to block the air release hole in the side of the plunger tube. Dont do this to strongarms, hammershots, alphahawks, etc
So I modded my quadrant and it works better? I did remove the air restrictor and added some electrical tape under the o ring to increase the seal. I blocked the gap in the plunger head so that the spring doesn’t go all the way into the plunger head (done with hot glue and a cardboard ring). But my gun works fine and maybe a little better than before, I have not compared the stock performance with the modded gun but I am hoping to do so soon
I am trying to repair this gun. I opened it up, it fell apart, and I used your video to put all the pieces back correctly. Thanks! I think the problem with mine is that the air restrictor pin which should stay depressed when the bullet is engaged, is not staying out of the way. The bullet doesn't stay in as far as it should; it pops out a bit when rotated to the firing position. I can push it in, but I can hear and see the mechanism inside pushing it back out. Fixes?
Hey Drac do you think you could start adding details on the music you use in your videos? If you can't can you at least tell me what the song used in this video is called?
It's getting reload and it even shoots bullets if I press the reloading bar but my trigger is not connected to the drum I think so ,, what should I do??
I did the same old school mod for my strong arm and becouse of the main like mechanics it need that air restrictor so that the plunger tube moves forwards to make the seal , and my strong arm is now dead
Guys a little help here I got a quadrant at a thrift store Its having a bit of trouble The trigger pull is too hard fiddled with the catch and plunger tube no difference Sometimes it doesn't fire at all
If only there was some way to get a nitefinder plunger assembly into this blaster. Nitefinder revolver? Yes please. That's honestly what I thought this blaster was at first, I'm disappointed now.
I'm actually super curious why you didn't replace the spring. Springs just need a snip on the end to add/remove as needed. You'll need to bend the end 'closed' afterward to fit into the plastic, but that's pretty easy to do. Can't speak for the other mods you did Drac, but you kinda act like the spring upgrade isn't possible.
the quadrant is one of the hardest blasters to mod i lost one while trying to *FIX* not modding (yes it came as a defective model) the barrel won’t move and it won’t lock when it was primed i opened it second i took it out a spring shot straight in my face (trigger spring) i found it and i fixed the rotation mechanism and the SAME THING happend it was not shooting more than 5 feet and making a very bad noise when firing and i suspect the problem is the spring behind the plunger tube and then i closed it and thats it! no more than 5 feet of range very bad banging noise so the conclusion is DO NOT OPEN A QUADRANT it will screw up completely
Which is semi untrue, It just means they are less over engineered. Given the price point of it and all the subtle ergonomics, I think we have a new start blaster that can compete with Maverick.
Rubber band Rubber band Rubber band! How come such a easy way to up the power spring power that no one use! Even fire strike can do this without open it
CelestialVulpes at least it can get better performance, and only tite the rubber band when u want to use it. It's easy to get a bag of rubber band,no worry about that
because it normally lets the plunger ram head on into the tube when dryfiring. the ar creates an air cussion that slows this and thus enhnces the lifespan of the used material.
Double upload today? I think we should do one more tonight, what do you think?

I was totally thinking exactly the same thing.

Your ignorance to how well breach loading pistols work is the joke here
Welp, thats a new one... Ey?
No here's a funnier one breach loading rifles
Sure, if you want to fire one dart.

I'm so glad you guys have friendly banter in each other's posts.
I think you mean "Savage one-sided beatdown"

coatduck are u serious !
was it really a mod guide if the mod wasn't successful?
Mr. Ponton Yes. A guide on what NOT to do is still educational.
i know that hasbro has labels saying "do not modify" on their products, but the have to know the modding and DIY community is a thing. yet it seems more and more that they are engineering their blaster internals to be as difficult as possible to modify. like..."we know you want springers to shoot harder and that youll be looking to replace our spring, so were going to not only screw the plunger head in place, but were going to solvent weld it there too. good luck getting it apart without breaking it and ruining your toy you spent your money on."

‘Thats what somones referring to when they refer to an AR or Air Restrictor’ - Drac. Hold on lemme show you this AR-15, or Air Restrictor 15
So I modded my quadrant and it works better?

I love how technical you were being even though you were firing the blaster and it lost all it's power. Basically guys, he failed. XD
A cute tiny strong arm with a jolt prime

Hey Drac do you think you could start adding details on the music you use in your videos? If you can't can you at least tell me what the song used in this video is called?

Totally. This song is dope.

I've run into something like this when I was fixing the blaster and all I did was put the grease on the plungerhead and it works better now
Hey Drac :) I am pleased to see you modding the Nerf quadrant as it is a nice effort .
I had no idea you posted today
Did you really say "nerfect"?... That hurt my soul..
It's not your friend Drac, truth be told it's not your fail, it's The Quadrant.

Thegoldengamer best me to it. His videos do a really great job with encompassing nerf news weekly.
Legend has it drac failed a nerf modification

What? Drac never fails

Why do u have so many nerf gun mine is only a bigshock mega
Because it is his job. Also lots of people have more than a very cheap nerf blaster.
drac fails = new series? (nerf mod sub series xD)

I got a quadrant at a thrift store

But you can thread on springs without taking the plunger head off

And you dont need ar removal unless the ars are in the dart posts
