As an adult I found out my father tried to sell me into child trafficking when I was three. To settle a gambling debt. My mother had to flee the country they lived in at the time. A few years later she met another dude who she married but he was never a father to me. To this day I dont know anything about him. A real nowhere man. I hope to be the father to my own children that I never had myself. I think I'm doing a somewhat decent job.
+heres johnny it's awesome for sure, but I wouldn't call it depressing. I consider it angry. Check out "I almost loved you" for over-the-top depression.
Hey, no problem man. I love Paradise Lost as well. I think that all these bands have their unique sound to offer, and some will stick out to you more than others. It's all a matter of opinion.
Saw these fine Gents and Lady live in Whitby, U.K. two years ago, venue was not great and the P.A. system was too powerful, but I loved it and it is something that will stay with me forever, 'til my dying day.... So I thank both M.D.B. and Peaceville for that and all the years of songs that mean a lot to a lonely nobody.... I am sad however than the Band chose to leave Peaceville after 20+ Years of service, I bare no ill-will to the band but find this sad...to me M.D.B. made Peaceville and vice-versa.... Thank-you once again. Regards, Kristian Simpson.
I received this CD as a gift from peaceville with an order from the website and i have to say I didn't give it its faire chance before that, but it's becoming one of my personal MDB favorites, the riffs are just as fantastic as ever and the whole band is in amazing form
Dunno, but this reminds me a bit of MDB's 'The Light At The End Of The World, (the same title track) .. that was also epic, also mainly with clean vocals and also around 10 minutes
Y si, Dreadful Hours es el culmen de MDB y muy de cerca para mi The Light at the end of the world
Seems like there's a mixing/mastering flaw at the 9:00-9:01 mark. The drums suddenly drop out of the mix & the guitar becomes slightly muffled & almost drops out of the left channel as well, just doesn't sound right to me.
Chainsaw12181943,one of My many favorite songs,Violin, vocals, all this is and has been My favorite band since I've been listening to them way back in 2000.
Kinda strikes me as a return to The Light At The End Of The World/The Dreadful Hours form, albeit with less growls on this particular track. Kinda missing A Map Of All Our Failures' guitar tone, which was my favorite sound of theirs to date, but most everything else sounds at least even if not an improvement. Nice to see a deeper mix of violins compared to that album as well, though it's still a ways from Angel and the Dark River levels of integration. And though I prefer their doomier aspects that has clearly been the focus of their music since Songs of Darkness, Words of Light so it's fair so see them turn up the pace a bit this time around. Overall, I'm liking it.
+Landon Lieberman I would have given more. I tied my children to a dying horse. Stacked up against me, The bodies heaved and stank upon their gore. On the earth lying still, My father found me there, ashamed and dying bare. I had spent many years Destroying all around, took everything I found. With a dying fall his voice left him. It shouldn't be this way. Do not hope for any other. And he picked up my hand. I would have given more. They brought me misery and they would not falter. We poured down our ratchets Upon them day and night with brutal force and might. To dead men and absent, There are no friends left to scribe the things we do. When I wake up I want to see you. Bring me the life that is within you. I charge myself off your body, But in my arms, the darkness deepens. I'll raise my hand to break you. If I don't another will. And my father left forever. It shouldn't be this way. I sang long psalms of bitter verse, But God had turned away. Men are free at the blood of Christ. I wish it was this way. Breathing is faster and breathing is deeper, And falling no longer bothers me. Sinking is deeper, thinking is cleaner. Your love it flows away from me. The pool of Bethesda beckons me closer. Put off that closing evil hour. The Devil, he is very old indeed. We sit with a few stories to tell.
Sheesh. Does the drumming from 7:38-8:06 get enough praise? As much as I LOVE this band and song, and album, I haven’t appreciated that part as much as I am now. This is why you should smoke marijuana kids.
I like it, but I hope Aaron does more growls, on this album. They've been so massively underused ever since "A Line of deathless kings". There were some parts on this song I think it could have fit...
Dolorosakil Yeah I read on the MDB forum, Andrew Craighan that there is supposedly "a lot of growling" on this album and that death/doom fans will get their fix. 70/30 is a bit disheartening and perhaps even dishonest (Aaron initally promised 80% growls....bah!!!), but that's better than "a line of deathless kings" where there was really just a couple words of growling on the entire CD haha. And I'd say "Songs of Darkness, words of light" was still pretty death-doom, it had "the prize of beauty", "catherine blake", "and my fury stands ready", etc. and all those songs were mostly growls. Also they did "a chapter in loathing" on "For Lies I Sire" which was straight up death metal.
Jesus christ, fuck off. WAH NOT ENOUGH GROWLING FOR ME WAHH I ONLY LISTEN TO GROWL MUSIC BECAUSE I'M 12 Just listen to the albums and songs that have it and stop trying to stifle bands' styles to suit your personal fucking tastes.
fourcrippledhorses You don't have to agree with me, but I'd appreciate it if you could form your argument/opinion in a mature manner without resorting to petty insults like this. What warrants this reaction from you, really? I said nothing negative whatsoever...I merely expressed my opinion, which is shared by some others as well (and apparently even members of the band). I've got a suggestion...turn off your computer (or phone? who knows with kids these days), and walk outside for a few minutes. Calm down haha.
fourcrippledhorses No, you're the cancer. People like you walk around sniffing the ass of every band that comes around, praising their existence to the high heavens and handwaving any opposing viewpoint as "closed-mindedness". In reality, it's you that's closed minded. You're just a pathetic, insecure kid who can't stand to hear an opinion that deviates from his own, because you feel threatened. People like YOU stifle band's creativity because YOU don't challenge them or allow them to accept failure, you just heap tons upon tons of praise on the band without realizing that none of it means anything. Failure is a huge part of growing as a band, it's a huge part of finding your own voice creatively. This track is NOT a failure, but as REAL fan of MDB, I don't have to pretend I like every aspect of it. Aaron is a musical and lyrical genius, and I respect all his decisions as an artist, but I don't have to pretend that I agree with every single one of them. It's called being a free-thinking individual. You should try it some time.
***** A Line Of Deathless Kings was the first MDB album I'd heard. And originally I hated it because I was expecting Proggy Death Metal. But I continued to listen to it more and more, now it's one of my favorite albums and I enjoy the clean vocals just as much as the growls. And personally I thought the growls on A Line Of Deathless Kings were very unique and added moments of intensity that I rarely hear anymore. Either way clean or growling it's My Dying Bride, so it's gonna be amazing.
I would have given more I tied my children to a dying horse Stacked up against me The bodies heaved and stank Upon their gore On the Earth lying still My father found me there, Ashamed and dying bare I had spent many years Destroying all around Took everything I found With a dying fall His voice left him It shouldn't be this way Do not hope for any other And he picked up my hand I would have given more They brought me misery And they would not falter We poured down our ratchets Upon them day and night With brutal force and might To dead men and absent There are no friends left to Scribe the things we do When I wake up I want to see you Brine me the life that is within you I charge myself off your body But in my arms, the darkness deepens I'll raise my hand to break you If I don't, another will And my father left forever It shouldn't be this way I sang long psalms of bitter verse, but God had turned away Men are free at the blood of Christ I wish it was this way. Hm, I hope this is the bad track of the album, it's definitely not terrible and has its moments, but I don't know, the clean vocals are a bit too much. It might grow on me, but after Paradise Lost put out Beneath the Broken Earth, which is an massive instant doom metal classic, I had higher hopes for MDB who I have always considered the doom metal flagship.
The music on this track is pretty decent, but Aaron's vocals and phrasing are flat-out weak (toward the beginning, anyway). I plan on buying FTM when it's released, so I can only hope his performance here doesn't carry over to the rest of the album.
+metalhead4x4 Point taken. In my defense, I did buy the album and give it a few spins to see how the rest of it sounded. It's quite good, and stands up well in MDB's discography. I'm still not crazy about Aaron's vocals on the first track, but I think he makes up for it on the other songs.
This band is absolutely special.
I agree. I've love MDB since I first laid ear to "Turn Loose the Swans".

great piece of work. I was a bit unsure of new (old) guitarist sound as Hamish had some great riffs, but looks like Calvin doing his monumental riffs
