    Sometimes life throws you some curves, sometimes they are rather sharp ones and hurt, know those too, but dolphins are a sign of better things to come..maybe not right away, but soon enough ;) and the horriblcanes will leave you alone this yr.. Try to sail off anchor even if the winds are not favorable for it, the guy who taught me to sail so long ago made me learn to do it, as he reminded me they had none on sailing vessels of old, maybe some oars :/ but I understand sometimes the motor is the only option, and sending wishes that all gets straightened out for you.

    It seems that sound is cavitation phenomenon. ( similar to a blender with air near the blades but lower tone because it spins slower ) It should not happen. It's probably similar to some propelled airplanes taking off because they apply maximum thrust at low speed. The blades are engineered for cruise air speed and the cavitate. Are you sure the propeller is engineered for your boat class? I would tune propeller-torque-rotating speed keeping in mind your cruising speed even if the prop. auto-adjusts. ( sorry for my english I hope it helps ).

    Hi guys I enjoy the video's a lot. Glad to see you keeping your chins up after all the adversity you have faced. Fitting a propeller is not as straight forward as it seems. The key has to be an exact fit. The taper has to be measured perfectly. Measuring with the Vernier should be done barely inside the taper and not down to the depth of the legs. If you do it that way you need to know the exact distance between the 2 measurements. A taper is measured by getting the major and minor diameters and the exact distance between them. If you gave the prop manufacturer measurements done that way and the full depth of the hub the taper in the prop is probably incorrect. The taper should be checked with engineers blue and lapped in until it is a really good fit. Most tapers once correctly fitted will hold even if the nut comes off. The tolerances are quite fine and a "that will do" attitude is not good enough. Painting a propeller is not a good move in my opinion. As you see by your efforts it soon comes off in a few hours running and causes imbalance. A polished prop' is a much better prospect. If the old prop was ok when refitted leave it on until your next haul out and get the new one fitted properly by some one with experience. There are many videos on YT on fitting tapers by good engineers. Sorry for the rant but I speak from 55+ years of marine engineering experience. I hope you get away from the 'urricane zone soon. Fair winds & regards from the UK

    • @SailingMillennialFalcon
      @SailingMillennialFalcon  5 років тому +2

      It’s an SAE shaft taper and was CNC machined to spec. I’m 99.9% confident that Bruntons have sized it correctly for the shaft taper. I will try not to take the quip about ‘good’ engineers personally 🤣🤣

    • @garyc5483
      @garyc5483 5 років тому +2

      Sorry "good engineers" was not meant to demean your capabilities. It was a reference to professional as against home/hobby types on YT. We as viewers can only form an opinion how things are done by what we see happening on the video. The less detail we see the more haphazard a job looks. I understand your constraints on video length and time taken to edit. The point is us armchair (now retired 12 years) engineers will usually pick up on incorrect or poorly shown details etc because we have nothing better to do being tied to a chair or bed all day. I think you do a great job between you and are a lovely couple. Fair winds & regards from the UK

    You might be getting clearance noise. And also for sure feathering props are much louder than fixed. But sailing is why we bother with them. My 4 blade feather gets louder when it needs grease.
    I think you have 4 or 5 thing happening there. But key bound is 1. But the main issue is youre hull configuration. These props are quiet on boats with shafts not located near the hull.
    But bruntons should know. Or not.

    The only time I have ever seen paint on a marine screw was when it was made of aluminum. If your screw is aluminum, it is first painted with, at least, a chromate type primer, then with a paint that repels marine growth. If the screw is bronze, don't paint it, period! Stiff upper lip, ehhh!!!

    You probably already figured it out. The manufacturer of Tayanas do not put standard SAE tapers on the prop shafts. :-0 When I changed over to a feathering prop I had to have a new prop shaft made with the proper SAE tapers to fit the prop :-((

      I completely agree! We sing to them all the time and I swear they sing back. The more fuss we make on the bow the more they show pony around. They’re such wonderful creatures. Great book called ‘deep’ has some cool insights into their behaviour among other things
