  • In Part Two drummer Mark Schulman performs to Wagamama from artist Julian Coryell off the album Gaijin.
Mark checks out the new Gretsch Brooklyn Series for us at his recording studio in Venice, CA. Mark's resume includes drumming for such acts as Pink, Foreigner, Billy Idol, Cher, Stevie Nicks and Sheryl Crow.
    About the name:
Gretsch drums were born in Brooklyn, New York in 1883. They were proudly crafted in the vibrant city for the better part of the 20th Century. Brooklyn and Gretsch share an inseparable history that is part of American music history and folklore. It is a shared legacy that cannot be duplicated. Today, Brooklyn represents a renaissance community that vibrates with contemporary artistic expression, youthful innovation and passionate musical commitment. Gretsch Brooklyn series celebrates the rejuvenated Brooklyn city passion and spirit and expands on its distinctive shared American experience.
Proudly hand crafted in Ridgeland, South Carolina, USA, by a team of veteran drum builders, Gretsch Brooklyn has a sound that is at once recognizable and essential, yet distinctively reinvented. The Gretsch drum design team molded the Brooklyn series by combining classic Gretsch elements while infusing it with new attributes. They expanded upon traditional drum designs to shape a sound that retains fundamental Gretsch characteristics while projecting a fresh voice.

My next kit will be a Brooklyn, I think. I bought a set of Renown RN2s last month and I'm head over heels in love with them. I bought the kit sight unseen and at first I thought "there can't be THAT much of a difference in the way they sound" and then I sat down to play them for the first time. I wasn't prepared for how great they sounded.

Ear candy for sure. Gretsch does make a fine kit. I miss playing my Catalina Club Mod.

After looking closer the Microphones for the toms look like Shure Beta 98 Amp/C drum Microphones. Appears to be Shure products for all the drum mics. Makes sense since I heard he endorses Shure. Sounds Great.

This drumset looks and sounds amazing. I play a wide variety of different genres and I can hear the vintage tone the drumset's produce but at the same time it brings a modern tone as well. So it can blend in well with everything. I'm definitely looking into this kit and will hopefully purchase it. Thank you!!

Would love to buy a Gretsch Brooklyn set, but in Europe they go for 3500 Euro starting price for 12 / 14 / 20", quite expensive.

What Mics were used for Toms, Bass, Snare etc... Tom mics looks like a sonic tooth brush.

The Brooklyn COB snares sound better tuned high, with Remo Ambassadors.
    No sound control dots required.
