I've found that any time you need to fix something a bit elderly and really worth fixing that Murphy's law, Finagle's law and taanstafl jump up in glee and bite you where it's most inconvenient. It really scrolls my nurd, because I'm not clever or trained up from apprentice level to meet those challenges. I really appreciate watching videos from artisans who can take on those challenges and defeat them, because there is a small chance I might learn something from their instruction and implement it correctly. Thanks Dan for this. You gave the knowledge, now it's up to me to be clever enough , and attentive enough to turn that into a result in my life. Thanks, and please wish me luck!

Good to see a 9" in action! There has been talk here in oz of banning them. Don't know how that equates for us home users but discs are certainly harder to come by.

Do you find it difficult to match the quality of older material with new stock? I am guessing cost is a factor, as you mentioned it. Also - interesting to see you doing "regular" work instead of teaching. Great perspective to what you do.

Yeah it's a bit of a pain. I'm also starting to think the gate wasn't made in the uk as it is almost all in metric. As for welding and forging the wrought iron and the mild have different issues but they arch weld easy enough. Thanks for the great comment.
