  • We were wanting to learn to use some equipment so that we could help shoot some video for ‪@algomatrad7312‬ so we thought what better way than some video of Zach playing his recently completed guitars.

@@treehouseguitars What size is that sound hole on the parlor? Is it smaller because of the sound port?

Great observation! Smaller soundholes lower the resonant frequency of the air cavity in the guitar. So what I’ve found is that with a small bodied guitar it’s important not to have a huge soundhole - that way it essentially can trick you into sounding like a larger-bodied instrument. I’m not sure why huge soundholes are the norm. Making all of mine smaller has been one of the most noticeable tonal improvements I’ve made to my guitars over my career. :)
Generally the soundports do raise the resonant frequency of the air cavity slightly, but less so than it would if the same sized hole was put into the top instead. I’m not sure the physics behind this… but it’s interesting! I Love soundports so I build them into the designs of my guitars and if someone does NOT want them then I’ll leave it out.
