My dad used to buy me dc universe packs from Costco. I picked them up personally off the shelves so I know 100% they weren’t just toys r us. All around the time of death of Superman
The breaking of the batman ,death of superman and first aperens of doomsday are 3 good DC keys are so so so undervauled!!!! The breaking of tha batman especially it is one of my favourite batman keys. Good luck Sith the submission.
Awesome video!! I have been hunting and singing the praises of the dcu toys r us books for YEARS!! I have a TON of great first appearance keys that came from these sets. The man of steel 18 5th print and the GL books specifically are golden finds if you can find them.
Dc universe logos will only be on books that were printed in 1993 and later. Even if you have a book originally released earlier than 93, the printing of it was probably done in 93 (like man of steel 18). Some marvel comics are like that too (hulk 377 3rd print is a good example) where the actual book was released in 91 or 92 but the print version (3rd, 4th or whatever) came later like 93 or 94. Hulk 377 3rd print has a wwf raw video game ad on back which shows the 1994 copyright date showing that they printed the books in 94. There are other books like that like the ultra rare superboy 9 or the flash 92 dc universe logo variants. Both have different back covers than their original run 1st print predecessors.
I actually had a 1st app of impulse with the logo back in the day - I read it to death. Literal death - I think we had the throw it out from water damage and it was missing the cover after long. I wish I knew better as a kid
When I collected comics, never heard of a second printing? And your going nutz over a 5th? you only told me the value of 1 comic this whole video. When those comics came out there were so many already no body could sell then at .25 cents ea. TMNT were the first comic I heard of and the G.I.Joes to go to a 2nd printing. We thought then, it was the beginning of the end for good comics. The silver age is gone forever? Nice to see you kids enjoying what was once considered more than the @5 cent box.
I know right? On the surface some of these would be 25 cent books but that rare variant makes em so much more. Plus it's cool for me personally as it was these collector sets that got me into comics! 9 times out of 10 second printing and beyond are almost worthless, but there's something about 1992-96 where second prints and up are the most desirable!
Funny story of how I got into hunting dcu logos was at an antique mall had a sale and a booth had this really nice section of comics, I found a nightwing #2 I dig the cover and the logo looked super cool but didn't want to pay $6. When I got home I did research and the book is worth over $120 but the pandemic hit when I had the chance to go back and it was gone when things were reopened
recently found a flash #96 with a dc universe logo in a charity store for 99p. Unfortunately i dont collect the flash but its super cool to find in the wild so ill likely sell it. Awesome video mate
I love finding comic packs like this. Last one I found was a Batman Adventures pack. All had DC Universe logos on them, but they were a little banged up. But it came with a really rad poster and notepad.
I don't remember getting these as a kid, but I did find out that I had the Man of Steel 18 DC variant not to long ago. I was pleasantly surprised on the value of that book. Good video man, keep em' coming!

I found them at Kmart back in the day. Posting early in the video, so don't know if you found any, but I had some that had the DCU logo on a sticker placed over the barcode. Think they were Superman
CBCS > CGC - The slabs are just nicer, sturdier, no newton rings, fewer errors, cheaper, thinner (fit more in a box that way), etc... Just a better product at the moment. I know some people don't like the label, but that's partly due to this notion that a white box for the grade is necessary (it's not), and also because CBCS designed their label so as to not draw attention from the book. On the resale thing, if people stopped selling CBCS for less than CGC, then that would basically be a non-issue
Old video I know, but I just found a batch of these DCU logo books (not the sealed packages) at Half Price Books in some of their grab bags. It's inspiring me to go hunting for more!

Is that all anybody cares about is 9.8 you haven't mentioned if any of them are worth anything other than the logo or being perfect? We used to buy packs at various stores in the 80's or when ever G.I. JOE #1 came out, they didn't have the board around and you could see the comics inside.
I see your at a comic shop. Mom gives you 5 bucks and a slurpee. You see all the comics you showed but on the racks. The comic dealer some gotee late 90s hippie. You buy your books and cast yourself on hero worship at it's best. By opening those old toys r us comics you just felt that old nostalgia right over again. Kind of like peeking at good ol childhood memories for a sec huh?😎
I’m a collector and for years did not come across any of the DC Universe logo variants. Help out a friend who sells comics and he picked up a collection just a few weeks back and going thru the collection again started finding copies with the DC Universe logo. No second or third printings but just was thrilled to add some to my collection. Have a feeling I just became a hunter of these variants. Nice video... 👍

Nice video for sure but you do know that only the Death of Superman pack is the only Toys ‘R’ Us one. The rest are from Caldor. When I started watching the video I said to myself I don’t remember seeing all those packs at TRU. I mean I worked there from 1986 until it closed in 2018, so l’m sure I would have remembered them. I mostly remember is selling 25 and 50 pack random comics and very few set reprints. But still some good stuff in there my friend.
Caldor/Walmart packs have them as well! typically the "DC Universe" logo ones are found mostly in the Toys R Us ones. - I think 3 of these were actually the "Caldor" packs

I haven't searched for Supes 9.8s much as it's not so much my collection but hopefully these all get the 9.8 and I'll sell em to Supes fans that it would be meaningful for!
Love this video. I remember buying comic packs at tru and walmart. At walmart, I got the spawn pack that came with both spawn/batman team ups. Also got spiderman/batman team up but I forgot what other books came in the pack. At toys r us, I remember get the wolverine pack which came with #88 89 90 and 100...then there was an xmen pack that came with #25 hologram aka magneto pulls wolverines adamantium out of his body. Congrats on the 5th print doomsday!

I came across two books in my collection that have the "DC Universe" logo on it. One was Action Comics #700 (white box) and the other Detective Comics (Batman) #675 (silver box). Coincidentally, both are labeled as "Premium Edition" in the top left price box. For the #675 - I actually had it x2 signed - one being Kelly Jones. None of my "Death of Supes/Doomsday" books have the logo, but many are Newsstand editions. BTW - I did notice on only one of the "Reign of Supermen" copies I have - in the logo box, it has "Super3". What can you tell me about that one-off logo? Cool video...thanks for enlightening me. I never new the origination of that "DC Universe" logo. Now I do. 😊 Be safe. Tim

Evidently, I am now also discovering that this logo is also on many "Zero Hour" books, but not as a logo box, but on the cover in the upper top-right corner. I have come across six (6) Zero Hour books that have the logo. Most, but not all, look to be Newsstand variants. And while lookimg for the logo, I also found a WW #91 to have it as well. NICE! I may have to start looking for the variant more astutely. Thanks again for the info!
The other day I got a daredevil comic book thing that had the "Fall From Grace" story line in it. The only problem is that every single comic has a bend corner on the bottom right. :(

So SOME were ebay - couple yard sales over the last 2 years and one was a recent trade with a friend. I've got a couple more that weren't in the vid!
1990-2000 is a blur i went to TRU for hotwheels never even knew about comics nice pickups

I think I got that exact same superman collection at the end because I have those same later prints of the death of superman books.

Caldor/Walmart packs have them as well! typically the "DC Universe" logo ones are found mostly in the Toys R Us ones. - I think 3 of these were actually the "Caldor" packs

@@MintHunterComics I also saw that at Five Below thrift stores like 5 years ago. They buy a lot of close out merchandise to see at there stores. Back then no one was really taking about DC Universe logo variants aka “plain old worthless reader copy reprints” lol.

Great video, sir! I’m a sucker for DCU Logo variants and the Death/Return Of Superman books. Have you tried finding those Funeral For A Friend books in 9.8? Super tough with those black covers and multiple printings.
I haven't searched for Supes 9.8s much as it's not so much my collection but hopefully these all get the 9.8 and I'll sell em to Supes fans that it would be meaningful for!

Love this video. I remember buying comic packs at tru and walmart. At walmart, I got the spawn pack that came with both spawn/batman team ups. Also got spiderman/batman team up but I forgot what other books came in the pack. At toys r us, I remember get the wolverine pack which came with #88 89 90 and 100...then there was an xmen pack that came with #25 hologram aka magneto pulls wolverines adamantium out of his body. Congrats on the 5th print doomsday!
I love stories like that man - so cool. My cousin got me these packs back in the day on his way home from work he'd hit toys r us and get me some comics. greatest part of the month always!
I came across two books in my collection that have the "DC Universe" logo on it. One was Action Comics #700 (white box) and the other Detective Comics (Batman) #675 (silver box). Coincidentally, both are labeled as "Premium Edition" in the top left price box. For the #675 - I actually had it x2 signed - one being Kelly Jones. None of my "Death of Supes/Doomsday" books have the logo, but many are Newsstand editions.
BTW - I did notice on only one of the "Reign of Supermen" copies I have - in the logo box, it has "Super3". What can you tell me about that one-off logo?

It would be an interesting fact if that type of logo variant were all "Premium"...hmmmm.

Unfortunately, it is not complete, because it doesn't mention the ones I found, as well as, many you screened, or even some of the ones other posters listed in that article's comments....but....it definitely gives alot of information on what to look for.

Evidently, I am now also discovering that this logo is also on many "Zero Hour" books, but not as a logo box, but on the cover in the upper top-right corner. I have come across six (6) Zero Hour books that have the logo. Most, but not all, look to be Newsstand variants.
And while lookimg for the logo, I also found a WW #91 to have it as well. NICE!
I may have to start looking for the variant more astutely.
