I really, really appreciate the emphasis on civility, tact, discerning wisdom, grace, respect and nuance in this presentation. As Christians we MUST do better. Thanks Ron and Justin. Thanks SPU.
Fascinating and informative discussion! My only complaint is that it hardly seemed like a debate-I had a hard time finding their points of disagreement, perhaps largely because Ron didn't seem to make a bold argument stance. Maybe I just missed it though, and if so it was still well worth my time to watch.
Ron sounds remarkably Catholic ... but he doesn't give a complete argument for his position. However, what he does say is great. I hope he reads James Alison, the best Catholic I know of who argues from a Catholic theological stance in favor of the legitimacy of gay relationships.
I gave it 47 minutes. Guys they aren’t emphasizing the Word of God, point blank period. This is intellectual comedy, light-hearted debate, playful commentary, surrounding the topic of humanness and fallenness. Let’s not forget these qualities are what produced sin (in the Garden) in the first place! Why would we go about sympathizing and empathizing with the thing that cast us out of Eden (the presence of God) and brought on a curse to all life under the Sun? I recommend everyone here to listen to Pastor Vlad’s 17 minute video on homos3xuality, which is promptly infused with Scripture and is directed towards repentance and communion with God, not towards compassion with sin/unrighteousness.
I hope those of you who condemn gays, have never dared to shave or eat shellfish. These are condemned, but have to be taken in historical context. Jesus would never turn his back or throw shade on anyone and all of their wrong doings. We’re all sinners. One sine is no more reprehensible than another. As a straight man with many gay friends, I can’t stand those who slam those who are gay, as though they are without sin them self
This is absolutely heartbreaking. As Christians, we're called to give up our old ways of sin, dying to ourselves daily so that we may walk in relationship with the Lord Almighty and his Son, Christ Jesus. What I see here, amongst so many other seemingly Christian institutions, is a effort to marry the culture to the church; marry the sinful ways of this world to the teachings and laws that have been established. Jesus did not come to destroy the laws of old, he came so that we may enter into communion with Yahweh, even when we break the laws ordained by Him. What happened to Sodom and Gomorrah should be a reminder of how God views this act. I do not believe a homosexual person is a sinful being due to their sexual orientation since we are all sinful beings the moment we enter into this world, being the seed of the first Adam, and accountable for sin as referenced generationally in Exodus. However, being okay and dwelling in their sin, whether it's lust or the action itself... Tragic.
I don't know how people disagree about this because Scripture says: Ezekiel 16:49-50 King James Version (KJV) 49 Behold, this was the iniquity of thy sister Sodom, pride, fulness of bread, and abundance of idleness was in her and in her daughters, neither did she strengthen the hand of the poor and needy. 50 And they were haughty, and committed abomination before me: therefore I took them away as I saw good. I understand that you don't condone gay sex. If you don't mind me asking, do you also consider same-sex romance, dating, or marriage to be a sin? I'm not trying to debate or anything, just want to hear your opinion if you're open to it. :)
Yeah but they said this about women having the right to vote, integration, and interracial marriage. I always wish that people that say this stuff would show their face, because you are on the wrong side of history tell you right now. 💖

Such an intelligent, thought provoking debate. Thank you.

1:50:30 Of all the things I expected to hear from this presentation, I did NOT expect to hear Ron recommending Brideshead Revisited. 10/10

Oops, I just learned Ron IS Catholic.
This was an amazing discussion. Thank you so much for it.
SPU would it be possible to add subtitle to this great video please? Happy to help ;)

Who is the guy who introduced this video? He is hilarious.

Jesus did throw shade … at the Pharisees. He flipped tables at those making merchandise of the gospel. Other than that 💞
7th commandment
Love in the micro but don't try to change God's Laws

You man the act of being haughty?
I don't know how people disagree about this because Scripture says:
Ezekiel 16:49-50 King James Version (KJV)
49 Behold, this was the iniquity of thy sister Sodom, pride, fulness of bread, and abundance of idleness was in her and in her daughters, neither did she strengthen the hand of the poor and needy.
50 And they were haughty, and committed abomination before me: therefore I took them away as I saw good.

You clearly didn’t listen. Also, anyone who thinks the story of sodom and Gomorrah is relevant to this debate is deeply confused.
