- One of a series of 25 heavy rail guns produced for the Wehrmacht by Krupp of Essen. Developed as the K5 series from 1934 onwards, the first test firing took place in 1936.
Statistically, the gun had an overall length of 30 metres, increased to 32 metres in the firing position, and a weight of 218 tons.
The barrel had a length of 21.5 metres (70'8"), a calibre of 283 mm (11.1") and an elevation of 50 degrees.
The shell weighed 255 kg, and the range was in excess of 40 miles. - Наука та технологія
Modelling is fantastic.....if it had been filmed in B&W I would have been fooled.....
My grandfather had been born and raised in the Essen area, but then left Germany a few years before WW1 began. Anyway, what a great effort went into modeling these trains to scale, and I'm impressed with the result (if not the wars in which these guns were used.)
Your detail is beyond words. Thanks for posting this video.
Thank You, David. Your comment is greatly appreciated.
Now thats cool. Love the rolling stock and the music fits very well. great job
Found what i want for christmas
This is super cool, I love model railways with war-trains and this looks amazing!
This is amazing the detail is fantastic congratulations to those involved in this model making.
Very kind of you to say so. Many Thanks. Glad you enjoyed it.
R.
brilliant , great craftmanship
Multi track drifting (deja vu)
Excellent Work My Friends .
Excellent modeling. enjoyed watching.
beardo52 Thank you Beardo52. Glad you enjoyed it.
Craftsmanship is definitely not dead. Nor is pride of work of detailing. Thank you for showing. P.S. I built a model of a K5; Anzio Anne some years back. Made a dinoramma in scale with German WWII vehicles from Minitank. Gave it to a hobby store as a display because we moved out of state and it would have never survived the trip.
This is awesome all the building and detail this is the Coolest thing I have ever seen
Another stunning film about a very unusual item. Very glad to see my coach getting some use.
What a fascinating video, the loco is stunning and the guns remarkable. Thanks for the show
In heaven, there's no internet, but in hell Hermann Göring (he had model-trains) watched this film and he was impressed.
Actually, with all due respect, Mr. Goring had quite a model train layout!!! I read that's how he perceived & created battle plans. Perhaps the most enjoyable way to make battle plans! :-) He's long since been dead. As for Heaven or Hell, GOD only knows.
Very nice video ....
It would be awesome to see the dora rail gun too
These guns were just some left over guns used by the navy in Cruisers and converted for use on the railways. Easy as pie!
Great Video. Love the detail. Thanks for the subject matter it was very interesting.
Very cool awesome video my oppa used to tell me stories about the big railroad guns
I love it !! Thanks for sharing...
Wow that is so awesome!
With the Base Realignment and Closure (BRAC) 2010, the US Army Ordnance
School was moved to Ft Lee, Virginia. All the weapons associated with
the museum were moved to Ft. Lee. The captured Leopold Railway Gun is on Display
on the Installation, which is open to the public.
Many thanks for this information.
Amazing detail wonderful to watch... perfect music too
What a amazing set up an great CRAFTMANSHIP.....i tip my hat to ur greatness. Felt like i was in germany watching this from a distant.
I would add that if u were able to slow the video a bit it would more intence ...juss a lil recommandation but WOW GREAT JOB PAL
Many thanks for your comment. A new railway will be under construction shortly. I will try to drive a little more slowly.
I can only echo the comments about the marvelous job in model making done here. Very nice detail. Well done!
Well done.........very fine detail........a wonderful piece of history.....preserve the past.....and remember the worlds lessons!
Superb video..... hats off!
Best model railway set ever
Well, Dan, that just has to be the best comment ever. Thank you very
I agree with you Dan!!! This model layout is second to None!!!
Good Point. I hadn't though of this when making the film Many thanks for your interest.
The details are insane. Wow! Nice work.
excellent presentation amazing detail
Niiice!!! Is that marklin? Where did you buy it?
That was fun to watch.
+Pasi Fsc
Good. That's how it's meant to be. Glad you enjoyed it.
well done on the presentation of your clips...very good...i wonder if anyone will think or wish to produce running models some of the german, polish or russian armored trians that were used in 1st half of last century...im sure that would generate a lot of interest...marty
Should be. Gun is Hornby-Rivarossi HR6026 "Schweres Eisenbahn Geschütz Leopold". Try the Importers for UK, Ontracks.
Locomotive is Roco Br 50. Try Arcadia models, Shaw, near Oldham. They may be able to help you with the others, Liliput Reichkonferenzwagen and the Norwegian Sleeping Car (repainted from the brown with added decoration).
Are these model trains still available? And, if so, where can I get one at?
Very nice movie, i was looking for the gustav rail gun, but found this leopold? I thought marklin made it?? Wil surch now for rivarossie? Thnx
Thanks, I'll look for that.. The European Locos have a particular style that I like very much.. Yes it would be interesting to see some of the Famous Trains of the WW2 years.. Like Hitlers private armored train "Amerika".. Maybe Stalin's armored train with the tank turrets all over it.. Or maybe "Von Ryans Express" from the Movie..
Very nice work ! I'm no hobbyists but I worked with a fellow who was and learned to appreciate the art .
Thanks Mark. Glad you liked it.
was ist die marke von den waggon mit den swastikas?
grt
Jeroen
nice model, very realistic
Beautifully smooth movement. I love German steam.
I like that coach with the Swastika banners.
I've been wanting to model Hitler's private 15 car train for a long time.
How did you get hold of these trains?
How I truly enjoy watching this video! All of the attention on detail is second to NONE! I wish that something like this was available in "O" gauge. I have finally found out where can purchase trains like this!
Thanks, punkrockpub. Very happy you enjoyed it.
Wonderful video, incredible detail. Certainly a paradise lost.
Very nice video and 99% accurate: the brown freight car has an UIC 10-digit computer-number. Another question is if bridges along the route would support the weight of the two guns coupled together? I would expect the guns should be separated by at least a couple of empty freight cars - or the passenger cars for the staff?
it's like the first rocket before they got v1 and v2
Ran across this and was ready to congratulate someone on restoring such a great train unit. Then I eventually figured out it wasn't quite full size. That's a fantastic thing you've done.
+bitsnpieces11
That's one of the nicest comments I've had so far. Thank you very much!
Excellent work!
Those are excellent models and structures! Very good video. I never thought about rail guns being positioned that way. I suppose they were too heavy to rotate on a pivot.
Wow! Such detail!
Bravo!*****
So Nazi, but at HO scale. I especiallly like how they aimed it. Its actually imformative without a word said.
Nice video sir.
cool model thought aye!
3:50 Deja Vu! I've been this place before! :D
La maqueta está muy bien hecha, estupendo video
Now that was very impressive and thank you for showing how the heavy rail guns would have been positioned, that is something I would not have realised or even thought about, fabulous layout and just love the detailing, great video, thank you, Mark
Thanks Mark. A very limited and time consuming way of warfare ! I wonder if they ever hit their targets ? Must have been very large..............
Reinhard
what scale is this is it like n scale or somthin else and if i is n scale where did u get it from im trying to make a german war train for my layout
+Samurai'splayMC2
1 : 87 HO. All items listed at end of video (5'21"). Gun is by Rivarossi. They have been taken over by Hornby PLC so your guess as to whether you can still get them is as good as mine! Good luck with your train.
Excellent Detailing!
+Mark Carlson
Many thanks Mark.
Enjoyed this video very much, great rail guns, train & layout. Thanks for posting !
Very satisfying video.
La maqueta es muy bonita,la realidad sería otra
Nice model
Well done. I am impressed and informed.
This is very cool!!! Where can I get one of these at?????? Please let me know at your earliest convenience!!!!
+punkrockpub
This could be difficult! The originals shown in the film were by Rivarossi. RR were taken over by Hornby PLC. I don't know if they available in the Hornby Continental range (as Hornby-Rivarossi), but this is the only starting place I can suggest, other than ebay.
There must be more passengers in these wonderful Trains! OTHERWISE a great working! At home I took heil and we want to t´see our leader calls on my loudspeakers!
Is this HO scale and if so where to buy these?.
It is HO scale. The individual items are listed at the very end of the film. They are now very old. You may still bee able to get the class 50 loco from Rails of Sheffield secondhand Ebay section. I sold it to them recently ! As for the rest.............
Amazing detail, truly German precision...
Very many thanks.
Love the German big guns......
3:41 multi-track drifting???
Great detail work on that train, very impressive.
Many thanks, Ben.
I thought his was real great detail!
I don't suppose you have got a 'Dora' railway gun in HO scale? Would like to see this sort of detailed featurette about those monsters! Also what a great demonstration of the precision performance and detailing of the train models we see. Especially the slow speed control of the side view around 2:30 ... Roco always were a top class manufacturer although it was Fleischmann who originally acted as the first 'excellence' benchmark in HO scale back in the 1970s IIRC.
Incredible attention to detail on this layout! What is the scale?
Rumple Stiltskin Hello Rumple Stiltskin. Thank you for your kind comment. Scale of railway when displaying continental trains is 1:87(HO); when displaying British trains is 1:76 (OO - which means British trains are slightly bigger but run on track gauge 4 ft 6 inches. It is an anomaly that has been present since the beginning of railway modelling)!
Nice railway but the rail guns cannot fire cross tracks thay not built to recoil thay only capable of firing in a straight line, all that metal and men plus Material to lob a shell 30 to 40 k is not practical that why they only used a few times special track and a vast amount of time to set it all up things in short supply to the German forces,
Absolutely astonishing. I thought it was a real railway from the thumbnail.
500 000 views for this as compared with 600 views for Fort Victoria Model Railway.
Leopold best viewed in Cinemascope or VistaVision ?
Yes, I'm amazed too. I think 4:3 vision will do. After all, it's only a toy train. Perhaps not the spirit the majority of viewers have been inspired by. If I had called the Fort Victoria Model Railway "Train Inside a British Bunker" - who knows.............but would Hermann Goering have been as impressed ?
Very nice.. 2-10 Decapod???
Would like an engine like that to pull a train I am working on..
A munition train of flatcars carrying Panther tanks..
What a nasty weapon.
What a model!
great movie, thax, what gauge is it?
+Duck Man
Thanks Duck Man. Gauge is 16.5mm, scale HO 1:87
Wirklich sehr schön gemacht.
Sehr vielen Dank. Gut, dass Sie es genossen.
Ein Glück das es nur ein Modell ist.....
+Herbert Meier
Ja, nur ein Modell, aber was für ein Modell!
Sehr gute Arbeit !! Herzlich Dank..
Very beautiful and good !
Excellent ! Very happy you think so !
letzterinstanz Great movie !
WOW, big thumbs up
+Blitzzz
Great stuff, Blitz. Many thanks.
that is cool how they had to use multiple tracks to turn the gun.
Where did you buy this and how much was it?
Impressive.
this video is great thank you ever so much !Im doing a model railroad of the Vietnam areagreat work
+thamas musller
Thank you very much, Thamas Musller. All the very best with your Vietnamese Railway.
For a sec I thinked it was real... .lol
Unbelievable and very impressive well done so real! What's scale of your railway N or S ? There were mini model world in German Hamburger and Holland Rotterdam!

Many thanks, Ardin Alonso. Glad you enjoyed it.
