I love that Josh was low-key trying to get one of his personal hot dog ideas on the menu - I respect the attempt!
I didn't know who Richard was before this but he's delightful.
He's such a personable and knowledgeable interview. Really enjoying this.
He's got a great radio/podcast voice as well!
Chips on hot dogs is definitely a great contender
Ripple chips
no. it isnt. I dont like getting stiches in my mouth from taking a chip spear to the roof of my mouth. the answer is acidity and texture. mustard onion or banana peppers.
Anyone else think Richard gives the energy of the manager of the Spud Hut 😍🥔 I love his passion!!!!!
19:57 I know this one because of the PBS Documentary "A Hot Dog Program". Richard was in that documentary. And the person that gave that tidbit out was at Pink's. It wasn't Richard, but a customer. And then Ruth Buzzie randomly showed up.
I'm disappointed Rhett missed the opportunity to meet Richard Pink. He loves hot dogs, but he loves double entendres even more.
He might have met him just not on camera
I've never heard of Pink's Hotdogs, or of Richard Pink. Not really the biggest fan of hotdogs personally, more of a burger gal. But i clicked out of curiosity and I have to say this was a delightful podcast. I'm gonna have to try a Pink hotdog some day! I bet they'd change my mind on hotdogs lol
I think the last thing you need is to eat more
@@alexad7592BOOOOOOOOO
Nicole you are referring to the Zweigle white hot.. Zweigles are in a natural casing and its pops open when grilled. Its the local favorite here in Rochester Ny
A zweigles with some meat hot, onions and ketchup 😋
Can i get one in albany anywhere😢
@@toxiccity97 you can find them at Wegmans but Albany is notoriously Wegmans empty, the closest location is either in Syracuse or mass
I can say I enjoyed this whole video thanks man
great episode!
What a treat for me to meet the owner of the legendary PINKS.. What a cool guy and a master foodie. I love this format where you get to know the owner behind these legendary California restaurants. Easily the greatest show of the year glad you all enjoyed those dogs.
He looks exactly like his voice sounds and I love it
I sided with Nicole early this episode: I love. LOVE ❤ - ❤ LOVE. A well made Chicago Hot. Dragged through the garden, sprinkled with both celery seed and celeriac, AND a little celery salt, whole sport peppers, tomato wedges, dill spears, the brightest green sweet pickle relish, onions (I prefer a gardieniera with onion in it, and a whole ass soffrito in there with it, with garlic,) ground black pepper, and a line of bavarian mustard.
simply the best! My close seconds would have to be just plain with mustard or with chili, onions, and cheese
That lord of the rings dog is a massive missed opportunity... WHY ISNT THE DOG IN THE RINGS?
Because then it would fall under the influence of Sauron.
@@WillLaPuerta Was waiting for this response lmao
PB and sweet pickles are a good combo. I’d try it on a hot dog.
I’m watching this while making fish stick sandwiches
Fish stick tacos myself😂
Fish sticks are slept on
Fish sticks are gross af,inwouldnt let my dog eat then
Do you like putting fish sticks in your mouth?
Chicken strip sandwich just as good but I love fish stick Sammies
love this guy, what a fun guest
I wouldn't be surprised if Jimmy Lee tried to get on this show.
That would be amazing. Family
all different flavors ova at pinks 😅
FRENCH TOAST BUN!!!! Also I feel like a Hawaiian dog needs Spam and nori incorporated into it.
I put ice in my milk and ice cream! I love ice cold milk. And if you worry about it watering down get whole milk. I get 2% and if it melts it’s 1% 😂 and so much better ice cold
I'm glad I gave the podcast a chance. I thought I wasn't going to like it, but I love watching it while I eat Breakfast :3
for me, it's yellow mustard
Awesome job Josh with the podcast see you on Tuesday day
Hoffman hot dogs are the best. They are close to a Nathan's dog. If you are ever in a town called Liverpool, near Syracuse, go to a restaurant called Heid's. They use their own recipe of Hoffman dog that is delicious! I've heard of people having a layover in Syracuse and going straight to the restaurant just for their dogs.
Hoffmans are great they sell them even in Florida cause all the transplants, another upstate NY brand I love is Zweigles from Rochester NY, get the white hot :)
Wish we had a Pink's on the east coast of Canada. Could listen to this guy talk about his business all day. Clear passion.
This feels like when there's a huge episode of a later season, and it's so huge and feels so intrinsic and so "right" that when it's over you rub your eyes and ask if that was a new season opener. "Did they, was that a new season? Or a finale? What epiaode number was that. Did they, so that's a new season then right? "
We need more hot dog restaurants in the world.
one of the best guests on this podcast
I miss the Pinks location that use to be at Knotts... definitely want that one back.
Had hotdogs today prior to watching this episode topped with mustard, ketchup, American cheese, and green relish.
That's my go-to when it comes to hotdogs. Sometimes I add sauerkraut.
7:33 hot dogs with ketchup and mustard on top of the ketchup and then more ketchup on the side as dip is peak
Just mustard, relish and onions but I can do only mustard
@ Nicole, the Rochester NY white hotdog I think you are referring to is a Zweigle’s (zy guals) and they are the best hotdog ever imo. 4:19
mustard, Onion, little relish. Or a classsic Chili Cheese
He’s lovely - nice man
Im watching this while making tostones with garlic and carne adobada for breakfast
How about a deconstructed corn dog? Beef Frank on a cornbread bun with chili. My dad did something similar with the difference being he poured chili over cornbread with a Frank thrown in a bowl. He was a genius!!!!!
I listen to this podcast while delivering mail.
I was a hot dog virgin (the most adventurous I had was a Costco!) until I met my husband. He's from Colombia and they have crazy good hot dogs. Toppings change from region to region just like anywhere else, but my preferred Colombian "perro caliente" is a beef frank, Hawaiian bun, bacon, melted white Colombian or mozzarella cheese, crumbled potato chips, ketchup/mustard (I think mayo is a little heavy but some do the mayo), sweet, sauteed-forever caramelized onions, and the kicker is some Smuckers pineapple topping, or a similar sweetened, syrupy pineapple (Smuckers is super sweet anyway, something a little more tangy is good!). I -love- hearing about different cultures' sausage/hot dog preferences!
crunchy peanut butter is a highly underrated and overlooked hot dog topping- put it on the bun before you put the dog in
The "mythical hot dog" is the closest I've seen to a messy Chicago hot dog west of the Mississippi. It's a beautiful thing
Two dogs we used to serve at my old hot dog place on the beach in Florida we're the Elvis dog with Peanut Butter, Bacon, Banana Slicds, and Honey. PB definitely works on a hotdog! We also had the Flyin Hawaiian with Pineapple, Sriracha, BBQ sauce, bacon, and green onions. Soo good
King’s Hawaiian Rolls are definitely my go to for hot dog buns when I don’t have any hot dog buns. But I also like using them for other sandwiches.
Smart Dogs match up perfectly with the bags of buns. I am having Smart Dogs for lunch, today. 😋😋😋My favorite way to dress a dog: cooked over a beach fire ring, and charred-bumpy, with blistering hot dog + brown or yellow mustard + tomato slices or chunks + diced onion😋😋😋😋😋
OMG I STILL use a hot dog bun for my peanut butter & banana sandwich, sometimes I’ll switch it the peanut butter for mayo but you get the point. Buns are great for bananas!!! ❤❤❤
The first hot dog a lot of south brazilian people eat is called "party hot dog" in birthday party. Its just a hot dog wiener cooked in a tomato sauce in a simple bun, sometimes our parents make the bun
The Kimchi & Peanut dog is kinda like Indonesian Satay in flavor profile. Or at least the Dutch-indonisian Sate you can get here in the Netherlands with peanut sate sauce.
The hotdog replaces the skewered meats, the peanut butter and the relish replaces the sauce, the kimchi replaces the atjar ketimoen as well as bringing some of the heat the sauce would be missing, the chips stand in for krupuk & the bun would replace the rice cubes.
Mayo on the bun, ketchup on the hot dog, and - if applicable - crispy crinkle cut fries on top.
Everyone should do whatever makes them happy but my eye was twitching the entire time Nicole was explaining her hot dog prep style 😭
Definitely get my love of crazy cooking drom Josh...
Chili.
Best basic is onion and mustard…. But ya mustard onions chili and cheese is the best if you got chili
All that you need: Hotdog, bun, Gulden's Spicy Brown mustard.
Options: Onions, (raw or sautéed), sauerkraut (warm or cold), relish.
ketchup or ranch on one is an abomination and a crime against nature. Yep, I'm a NYC boy.
PB and dill pickles are great together
mustard over ketchup as a condiment in general.
Rhett and link should do a we tried every pinks hotdog episode
i went to try PINKs one time i was in LA. i was one a tight deadline and when i went (in the AM)they weren't open so i never got to try them. 😐
Bbq and yellow mustard
Nicole!! Josh!! Y'all need the burger scholar George Motz!!!! I love when you guys have guest! Love from Ohio!! 🥰🥰 I got my whole family addicted to GMM!
I made a Korean army base stew dog and it was phenomenal. Coated dog in a paste with gochujang, gochugaru, garlic, soy sauce, fish sauce, dashi powder and a little water then scored the dog and seared it. Topped with pork and beans, American cheese, kimchi, arugula, and green onion. Was just fantastic.
Chilli is the number 1 undisputed champion among Hot Dog topping *to me*
And if a hot dog has sauerkraut or sour cream, I won’t touch it… I’d eat a hot dog naked but NOT with either of those toppings! But I mostly eat them with Ketchup, mustard… and relish at times.
Mayo, Sweet BBQ (or Spicy Ketchup), Pickle, Saurkraut, Onion and once in a while Jalepeños.
Richard is a legend
I’m inventing the Okinawa dog- tempura style hot dog, chopped daikon radish and pickled ginger. ponzu or tonkatsu sauce. And a bit of wasabi if desired
My Cosmopolitan Dog- roasted peppers chopped onions and jalapeños with chimichurri over it
And the all American Dog- baked glazed apple with cinnamon nutmeg ginger and honey, chopped up, caramel topping, add some shredded carrot to top.
No need to use 3 of mini King's Hawaiian rolls (if you don't want to) because King's Hawaiian makes hotdog buns!
Chili. No contest. Edit: Richard Pink is a cool dude. He is passionate about his dogs. And he makes everyone excited about his passion. I could spend a whole day with this guy working on hot dogs.
Mustard. Ketchup is too sweet.
The only Pinks I have been to was in the Philippines... FBC!
Mustard, onion, relish, saurkraut
He really made this podcast into a whole ass commercial for his hotdog joint
Hot dogs in São Paulo (Brazil) have a lot of toppings! Mashed potatoes, green peas, sweet corn, vinaigrette sauce, shoestring potatoes, cheddar, Catupiry, ketchup and mustard. Yes, it sounds crazy, but it's actually delicious.
This guy is the most California guy I’ve ever seen and I’ve lived in California my whole life
Michigan Coney dogs for the win! If I'm feelingbwild and crazy I'll put tzatziki sauce on the dog, so yummy.
I’m a hot dog heathen. My go to is a hot dog microwaved in the bun for 30 seconds. Dress after with ketchup, mustard, and relish if available. It’s a nostalgia thing for me as it’s what I ALWAYS made as an after school snack. Old habits etc etc
Kings Hawaiian makes actual hotdog buns that taste like the rolls
I'm a fan of a simple hot dog. Just grill it up w/ 3 small slices (I've had issues with them exploding on the grill) with a bit of mustard, some relish, a few dashes of hot sauce, and a nice pickle relish. Nice, simple, cheap, and comforting.
That said, a nice half-smoked with some chili also hits the spot. Ben's Chili Bowl is an institution.
Nathans Famous, Sharp Cheddar Cheese, Lots of Yelow Mustard (Prefer French's), Dill relish
I would put the dog through the onion rings lol 😅
I crave a chili dog
If I get a hot dog without pickles on it, it's not a good day.
Mustard
I use to work streetfood. I ate the oddest combos then.
Mythical dog is only $6.95 per the sign, that seems like a steal!
Maybe LA is drastically different, somehow, but here in Oregon grocery stores, including WalMart...the majority of hot dog brands have a standard 8-pack of hot dogs, to go with the 8-pack of buns.
I don't do it so much these days, but as a kid, I was obsessed with making PB&J on hot dog buns instead of regular bread.
It was just such a perfect, easy thing to smear PB on one side of the bun, jelly on the other, and squish it together with way less mess than standard bread.
Finally, I have heard of Pink's my whole life, and always wanted to try their dogs.
Richard seems like a great guy, and one day I will make it to one of those places and eat every dog I can.
Edit: After reading some of the comments here and getting thoroughly disgusted, I feel I need to speak up.
THERE IS NO SUCH THING AS A FOOD CRIME.
STOP GATEKEEPING WHAT OTHER PEOPLE EAT.
If I, or anyone else...wants to put ketchup on a friggin' hot dog...we can, and that's ok.
I don't care about your regional bias or your taste buds being supposedly "more mature".
I'm not telling you how to eat your food, so don't tell me how to eat mine.
Ketchup is just one of many sauces that exist, and things that exist are meant to be consumed, if you enjoy them.
Sauerkraut, enough said
Love me a kraut dog with some good brown mustard!
@@LindseyLouWho same!
I would love to try a hotdog with poutine on top.
He sounds just like Steven Wright.
Sriracha + hoisin sauce is the best hot dog topping
Jsh I dont know if you read comments this far down, but I would like to share my hotdog take.
In Norway we have something called a 'lompe', its essantially tortilla made with potato, this is the vessel, smear with with a layer of mashed potato, that has crispy bacon bits in it, sprinkle parsley, plop the dog in it, whatever condiments you want, roll it up and enjoy.
Baked beans, lots of yellow mustard & kraut or if you don’t care for kraut, grilled onions 😋
Hot dog cooked over a campfire, one tip burnt, the other a bit sweaty. Bun toasted lightly. Mustard, relish and wrapped in a slice of American cheese
I do mustard spread on the bun, fried onions, hot dog, ketchup - that’s my go-to, bog standard, can’t go wrong hot dog
What does it say on the dogs?
#1- Pinks Hot Dogs
#2- loves
#3- ?
#4- Josh & Nicole
#5- Be your mythical best
#6- @pinkshotdogs
I'm doing mustard and diced onions
A lot of people sleep on mustard on a chili dog
Grilled pineapple is my favorite topping.
Damn.. didn't realize this was a podcast when I clicked on it.
My favorite toppings are STEAK 'N SHAKE Chili, mustard, ketchup, and onions.
I’m a weird one where I eat only ketchup on my hotdog in a hotdog bun. If I use sandwich bread I cut it up and use mustard only. Yet I will make people all types of hot dogs like what Pinks has. Especially when I bbq hot dogs I’m always playing with any of the sides people bring to eat with the meat.
Onions
15:08 me who air fries or microwaves my hot dogs
Bertman Ballpark Mustard is the only mustard good enough for a hotdog
