    Excellent video that gets to the heart of ergonomic matter for most.
    I've done the math. For a screen attached to a full size keyboard for my arm length and comfortable working distance, the best screen size is 15-18" for 16:10. It all comes down to the distance of the keyboard from your body and an optimal vertical view angle of 30-35 degrees. For people with short arms, the screen can be smaller, for people with long arms, the screen needs to be bigger. Eye strain is an issue on all laptops because they are all too close, but smaller/closer is worse.
    What we really want/need is a thin foldable screen and keyboard.

    I think the 15 inch Macbook Air M2 is still a great laptop, I think the pro is the best in terms of overall value, but day to day. I have the 15 inch Air and it is perfectly fine for day to day use.

    I love the 15" air but the Pro-Motion screen on my MBP 16" is a thing of beauty for coding. Especially once you learn how to use fullscreen mode and Mission Control gestures properly on the touchpad, you can just fly through your code. Totally different experience to using a keyboard!

    I was really looking forward to the MBA15 but the price is just too much for me. $1700 for the 16/512 model is just too much for a laptop that I would only use for office work...the kind of office work you can do on a 5yo $300 ThinkPad. I got an IdeaPad Pro 16 last year for $1100 with an R7 6800HS 16/512 and RTX 3050. While the battery life is only half that of the MBA15 when doing office work, I like that it can double as a light gaming laptop when plugged in. I would rather carry a 45W GaN USB-C charger in my bag than pay an extra $600 for an extra 6 hours of battery life.
    If the MBA15 16/512 were $1400 then that would really tempt me to switch to MacOS. But as it stands, IMO there still isnt an affordable large display productivity laptop for me in the Apple world. The M1 MBA13 is a value champ but its just not big enough for me and I feel like these 8/256 entry models are just a trap.

    Get the smaller model. Plug it into a 42" giga monitor or whatever when you use it on the desk. You are thinking of buying a laptop for portability and flexibility in the first place. (I know this does not apply to everyone before y'all draw your guns on the comments.)

    I appreciate all the love the for the 14” Pro but I recently tried one and it was not comfortable to use on my lap. The weight and heat were bothersome and although the screen and speakers are amazing, they didn’t make up for it.
    I think it is something many reviewers miss. The Pros just aren’t as great for use in the lap versus the Air line.
    The first question to ask is: “where will I be using this device most of the time?” Then ask: “what will I be doing with this device most of the time?”

    I've had my 15" MacBook Air 512gb now for about a month and I simply love it. I am using it as my primary machine. I've edited and rendered 4k video on it (one was an hour long) with no problems. Yes, it gets warm when rendering. I did buy a $20 cooling pad for it that helps keep it running at max, but I would say it wasn't necessary. I've been playing World of Warcraft on it with the graphics set to maximum without a hitch. I would have loved an SD card slot but that is really my only criticism.

    I did it little bit differently... Few days ago I sold my 2yr. old AIR M1 16GB/1TB for $1.300 and went into local store and bought the new MacBook Pro M1 Pro 16" 16GB/1TB for $1.700 at "red friday" sale. Now for the price of 512GB 15" Air I have much better computer except the weight. This machine is perfect and have it all. Fantastic Mini Led XDR display, best speakers of all times, great cooling, great battery life, great SSD speed, fast charging, 1080p camera, high power output for high impedance headphones, simply all. This is my way. Not to buy new machines for big money, but wait a little and buy proved machines with great price/performance ratio. More than happy now.

      The best machine is 16 inch MacBook Pro M1/M2. That screen size is way better than 14 inch. So, it was better for you to add extra 200$ and buy 16inch. 14 is to small and when I take 14 in hand I fill that heavy weight from body. But somehow 16 inch fills more comfortable in hand and 16 is much better for your eyes. 15 inch air MacBook is light., and screen size is perfect but Fanless is no go for job. Fanless laptop only for browsing and watching UA-cam and movies. MacBook Air is for easy and light tasks.

I don't need the extra power or pro features on the larger computer but I do need the larger display and really wanted a Mac. The real benefit to me would be the massive cost savings from being able to buy a less powerful computer with a larger display.

      Quite, I am very happy with the base MB Air M2 coming from the base M1 MB Pro. I think I was dazzled by the display and in reality I do not use 120Hz often and I do not watch HDR on my laptop as I have a 60-inch 4K OLED at home which is 100X better for watching HDR! Some great deals meant I got the Air for over £100 off which would be a £500 saving on the cheapest M2 MB Pro.

    • @Piketom1
      @Piketom1 Рік тому +1

      @@andyH_England Totally agree. I turned off the promotion and HDR function on my MacBook Pro the day I bought it to conserve battery power. When I want to watch HDR content the LG 65C1 in my living room is soooo much better than the MacBook could ever possibly be. The low trade-in value on the MacBook Pro means that I might as well keep it at this point. At least the fact that it is overkill for my needs means it’ll last a very long time.

    Looking at all the screen sizes side by side just yesterday and APPLE has covered the options and each step is very different. The MBA 15” seems the perfect size for work/view and the display is nice. If I was buying now it would be very tempting. But, I’ve had the MBP 14” M1 for awhile now and it still is what I would get (refurbished). The amazing display, the ports, and although I’ve been hearing the MBA 15” seems much lighter although basically the same weight, I can’t say I felt that, and the 14” actually also seems smaller and more portable (but yes, a bit thicker). At home and not on my lap, it’s paired to a desktop display, so actually 2-displays with a lot of view. One last thing, although the MBA 15” has very good sound, the MBP 14” is better. They fire up and to the sides through the cooling vents (which I don’t hear anyone talking about) and give an almost 3 dimensional feeling in the lap.

    I'm very happy with. my 13.6 inch M2 MacBook Air with 16 gigs of ram memory, and 512 SSD storage, but I kept the 8 core GPU. I've had my Air now for 6 weeks. It's my first laptop and I love it, very user friendly, lightweight, portable. I'm a longtime Windows desktop user since 1999 with Windows 98. My last Dell desktop had Windows 7 Pro with 2T hard drive. Barely lasted 2 years, and Windows screen kept on going out on me. I used to have a website building my own webpages, not anymore. Because of what happened with my last Windows computer, I switched to Apple. I have iPhone 13 Pro, and it syncs with my MacBook Air. After the Mac class at Soho Apple Store in NYC, I checked out the 15 inch Air, was not that impressed. If I wanted a bigger screen would prefer the 14 inch Pro. The screen resolution is not much better than the 13.6 Air. Two extra speakers make sound louder but, really not much better. I had them put Beach Boys "Wouldn't It Be Nice" to test sound. If you are going to be doing heavy duty work, you're more likely going to need the Pro, or add an external monitor to your Air. I like that I'm not tide to a desk, I can sit on the couch with my legs up on chaise, with laptop on my lap. The 13.6 Air is easy on the shoulders when carried around in crossbody laptop briefcase. I was able to walk around NYC, without any strain on my shoulders. You are so right about color choice. I got the Silver color cause so many people on here said Midnight got too many smudges, and fingerprints. Personally, I think the Silver looks really elegant, with a nice shine. My opinion is you should upgrade though to 16 gigs of ram, and 512 SSD storage, or laptop with run slow. I have to admit I did want the 14 inch Pro at first cause of screen resolution and sound but, my friend/lawyer brought me down to earth. You don't need it, I'm getting you the Air. Good deals going on now at B&H Photo, that's where he got mine cause he doesn't have to pay sales tax. Could have used him when I bought all my Canon photography equipment years ago. Now I've got the iPhone 13 Pro, to take photos, my Canon Eos Rebel is collecting dust sad to say.

    Many people are speaking about amazing pro motion display in 15 pro. You know what? I am a visual perfectionist )) Yesterday I placed side by side Air 15 m2 and Pro 14 m1. And I could not see any significant difference between these displays. Both are razor sharp with perfect colour rendering and contrast. Both show font blur when sliding between screens or browsing text up and down. Surprisingly, I see more motion artefacts when shifting between work tables in Pro 14. May be if I spend another 30 min I could finally find differences. But if they are, they are minor, much much less than I expected after watching UA-cam reviews ))

    Terrific, I was thinking refurbished pro as well. Good to have the AUS perspective. With our prices so high compared to US even more reason. I have a MS surface laptop 4 which works great but poor battery life off mains or runs very slow to stretch the battery. Love the touch screen though but Apple still holding out. Perhaps when they fully merge iOS and MacOS this will change. I run GoodSync using lots of network drives so the lack of ability to run on an iPad etc is the main blocker.

    I think 15" screen is the real draw for me, but when you look at the 15" MacBook Air with 16gb and 512 gb ssd (thanks for saying that should be the minimum because it should) you're looking at $1699 brand new. 10 core CPU/16 core GPU M2 MacBook Pro 14" is literally $100 more at $1799 brand new. Yes the screen is smaller, but almost everything else is better. This is just classic upward pressure pricing and Apple isn't the first to do it. Realistically though, the 15" is what I need more, because of the multitasking capability and lightweight-ness. I just wish that upgrading the SSD and RAM didn't cost an arm and a leg. At $1499 to $1599 the 15" M2 is well enough expensive to turn a profit and still place upward pressure on most consumers while customer's with smaller budgets can more easily ignore it and still buy the product. However, at this pricing it's so much pressure that it actually just convinces me to wait until the price comes down to something more inline with what it should be. So I guess me and my 13" MacBook Air from 2014 are just gonna have to wait lol.

    No complaints about the 8gb ram and 256gb drive (500gb drive is apparently faster)
    The way I see it is, if your buying an air, your using it for web browsing, email writing, netflix watching, spread sheets etc… you dont need lots of ram or storage for any of those tasks..
    No need to upgrade from a base model. it has more than enough power and memory and chances are you have another computer for beefier tasks if needed anyways.

    Really torn between picking 15 or 14 pro mbp as I am specking my 15 air
    Also Do you see the major difference between 120 hz mini led screen of 14 and 15 air lcd display ???

    • @andyH_England
      @andyH_England Рік тому

      The difference is negligible especially as I turn animations off on my Macs. The 120Hz is overrated unless you play games that have higher than 60FPS. The miniLED is good but again I watch all my HDR on my 4K OLED TV so it is never used.

      I don't like mini led on my 14inch pro when watching videos. It artificially darkens dark parts of a movie in a way too noticeable to my eyes. Yes the contrast is higher bla bla but it's disturbing to see things that shouldn't be there.

Where i live both are basically the same price. Im a student, which one should i go for? I want the machine to last for quite a few years and i do coding and some software development.

    Hello, I bought a macbook pro 14" 2023 with M2 pro 12, 19, 1tb and 16gb ram and when I charge the macbook and run my finger over it, it vibrates. It's interesting that if I just touch it or it charges, it doesn't happen . Is this normal or should I consider a complaint? And I have one more question. When the keyboard backlight is turned on, almost every key has a different gap and looks weird. Is this normal?
    Thanks for the anwers.

    You know what else those windows laptops lack.. a notch. They manage to fit a webcam in thin bezels. What a revelation. Branding and marketing at the expense of the consumer. Love MacBooks but the concept and rationale behind the notch pisses me off- and I DO notice it. I prefer my menu bar semi-translucent for a more open feel.. and I love my 100s of background pics that rotate every half hour.. only to have a stupid pointless egregious black notch slapped to the top of every image. Stupid.

    • @schizofennec

    • @andyH_England
      @andyH_England Рік тому

      I think the notch was there for testing for future iterations of Face ID. Get people use to the idea and see if it affects demand. Latest Q2 figures reveal that Macs were the only PC OEM to have sales increase year-on-year when Dell lost 20%. Dell is known for pretty displays and Macs with notches. That does suggest that superficial prettiness is not a major factor in why people buy PCs and TBH, that is obvious as most people care about battery life, performance, QC, reliability and software.

    • @mootsym
      @mootsym Рік тому

      @@andyH_England I agree. It's still stupid, especially considering we've had the notch for 3 years without Face ID. And I'd trade Face ID for no notch 1000 days/year lol.

      What feels cheap does not correspond to actually being cheap. Like the LG Gram, it feels like it is cheap, but the reality is that both have been tested beyond the norm and probably would be more resilient than a fancy XPS if you dropped all of them.

It is not only the 15 inch screen. it is more powerful than the 13th inch, and the speakers are much better. And know that more than one external display is not annoying for 95 percent of us who will never have a use for it. Of course there are some limitations. IT IS AN AIR NOT A PRO and much cheaper. So what is your point!!!
