    During the 2008- 2009 recession when gas prices were high we did a 'no go day'. We did whatever the kids wanted, as long as it was at home. We went nowhere, spent no money out, no gas. We built forts inside and out, wrote and performed plays, cooked together, etc.

      Americans wouldn't even dream of a washing line. Our normal living is beyond their frugal living. Its amazing how much power they use to cool and heat their houses average size 2800sq ft. and shopping centres, their cars are huge and inefficient, their meals and supermarkets prepared food huge portions, their whole way of life is about convenience and that's expensive.

    Another tip regarding your dryer that doesn't save you money immediately as such, but can save you a huge bill and possible your life: Always empty the lint trap after every cycle. Letting is accumulate means the dryer has to work harder to push through the clogged filter, plus an overfilled lint trap is a significant fire hazard.

    For all the pet parents: making some of the food for your dog is really cheap: 1 part carbs, 1 part protein, 1 part greens. I have a container on the freezer for my dog: green leftovers go in there, chicken carcasses, meat trimmings. When I have enough I boil all the greens and meats, run them through the blender with a can of sardines and add to a portion of rice or polenta. My dog loves stinky food, sardines are his favorite. Then I freeze in portions: half the homemade goo, half dog food. He loves gnawing at it frozen.

      I used to use clothes lines all the time in Idaho. It daves doubly in the summer... By keep the heat out and by drying on the line.

    Meal planning is key! We like to pick 7 meals but not assign them to specific days. That way, if we’re not feeling like burgers that night, we can pick one of the other options.
    We never had much success with meal prep because it would take 6+ hours on a Sunday which is next to impossible with 3 kids, and we also don’t have the fridge/freezer space for it.
    Love buying generic. I disagree that it’s the same, but it’s rarely different enough to warrant the extra cost. Sometimes it’s better, like Dr Thunder compared to Dr Pepper

    • @maureenbullis1805
      @maureenbullis1805 3 роки тому +3

      Another way to meal prep is to double what you are already making and freeze half. After 15 days you will have a stockpile of 15 dinners.🌈🌈

    • @ghfan2011
      @ghfan2011 3 роки тому +1

      @@maureenbullis1805 good idea. We like to double the recipe but we instead use it for lunch the next day. It keeps us from eating out since we’re normally in a hurry for lunch. We don’t have the fridge/freezer space to store 15 days of dinners.

      Ok 👍 but I save by only eating when I am hungry and stop when I feel satisfied. Wait 20mins after eating to see if I need any more saves heaps. Can always freeze leftovers. Gone are the days of eating everything on your plate. Always leave something on your plate that you can use in next meal. Portion control

      In Australia if you pay house rates and insurance annually you save hundreds of dollars. Most people are paying them quarterly or monthly this way they add on interest and other fees so it is not cost effective. I went without my wants untill I set up yearly payments for all my bills except utilities as they are pay as you use items. I did struggle but it was truly worth it

      Cheryl T. I just reuse them as is. I find that my box of dryer sheets lasts me longer. I use one dryer sheet for loads of laundry and then after the dryer gets done from the first load then i find the dryer sheet and i put it back into the dryer for my second load. I pick one day out of the week where i wash everything that needs to be done and most of the time it comes out to being two loads of laundry. Washing clothes, i also don't use the full amount of soap per load either. That is basically how i do laundry and have clean clothes and clean items but at the same time i am saving a little bit of money.

      I don't agree with that, if I leave a ceiling fan on in a room and walk in I can feel a difference in the temperature.

    Love these tips! I recently got a pack of 6 dryer balls, but I started noticing they were leaving all of our clothes/towels/blankets with EXTREME static! It got to the point where I stopped using them all together :( Do you have this problem with yours?

      I read that attaching a safety pin to the ball cuts static. I have not tried this but it is worth trying

      For anyone reading this now- I had the same problem but then realized I was over drying my clothes. When I cut back on drying time my clothes were still dry and had no static.

      I would hate to waste money on a dryer.I live in Australia with good weather.I put clothes on line and walk away.So easy.Always laugh at American home finding shows.Without a dryer they wail like the world has ended.

    i dont know about others but maybe start the video with something more practical instead of a 4 minute tangent about dryers. Just dont get one or sell the existing one and you will save a ton more, you don't need it.

    I'd like to know how much money you save by not using your dryer. Seems like too much work 😕 for this lady

      Savings depend on where u live + yr electricity rates! But even if u hang some things outside on the line or indoors on airers; u will still save money. Do what works for u! When my back pain is really bad I give myself permission to use my dryer.

    I hate having a library card. Every time i check out a book, it never fails but i always forget to return it and then the next thing i know is that i am having to pay the library for having the book way to long. Just imagine having 4 books out and each one cost 50 cents and you don't return them on time. That is me. That adds up. That is money coming out of my bank account or just out of my wallet.

      You can reborrow your books as well online. Have a reminder on your mobile phone or diary etc. When books are due.🙋‍♀️
