    • @WJack97224

      @MichaelMike, The Brits have always been deceptive and it wouldn't surprise me if the leaders used the Lusitania as a bait to get the Germans to attack her and then with the loss of so many lives, the US would be forced into the war, which is exactly what happened. Also, I would have sent several escort ships perhaps 100 miles to sea as protection and for rescue in the event of an attack.

      @Dennis Wilson Of course it was typed in England, and on English paper. The "telegram", not letter, was intercepted and decoded by the British after they had cut the German transatlantic cables. It was an encoded message transmitted from the German Foreign Office by the German Foreign Secretary Arthur Zimmermann, who, quite amazingly, when asked about the telegram, freely admitted to have sending it. Hardly a great conspiracy on the behalf of the British.

    I think the main achievement of the blockade was the denial of phosphates to the Central Powers which in turn meant a lack of fertiliser. At a time when many farmers were in the military, it hit food production as phosphates that were available were being used in for armaments. It strikes me that the spring of 1918 would have been a good time for Germany and Austria to offer peace at the former borders to the UK, France and Italy.

      @thomasloki1276 4 роки тому +1

      @ROBINSONREX1 false, In 1899 and 1907, the Hague Peace Conferences defined more precisely what behavior can be expected from a neutral state. Even in peacetime, he must behave in such a way that, in the event of war, he can credibly establish that he does not favor or discriminate against any of the warring parties and that he does not participate in any fighting or promote it. This is not just about military matters, but also about economic relationships that are neutral. The behavior of the neutral thus includes not only the formal freedom to form alliances, but also making the neutral attitude credible.
      Selling war goods to England, but at the same time sanctioning Germany for stopping deliveries is not neutral.

    Now I'm no scientist, but I don't understand why if wood floats, how many wooden ships sink. I can understand metal ships because that has to be really heavy. But if wood floats, why do wooden boats sink?

    • @indy_go_blue6048
      @indy_go_blue6048 2 роки тому

      The mass of the boat combined with the water entering into it is greater than the buoyancy of the water supporting it. Separately the planks would float; combined they sink. A gallon of water weighs 8 pounds (3.6 kg); you're talking about tons of water pulling it down.
