  • Mexican Red Rump Tarantula (Tliltocatl vagans/previously Brachypelma albopilosum) tarantula care guide. In today's video we discuss the question, is the Mexican Red Rump tarantula a good tarantula for beginners? I'll teach you the basics about these awesome inverts, and you can decide if the T. vagans is right for you! What is a good beginner tarantula? Wait until the end of the video to find out if this species is a good fit! The amazing, bright red setae of the black velvet tarantula can make this an amazing display spider, they are typically calm and slow moving, and they are extremely affordable... and that is why the t. vagans is one of my favorite species, and make a good starter tarantula.

Don’t forget to mention that slings are escape artists. On the first night of ownership, my sling crawled out of the vent hole and was lost for three days. I finally found him crawling on my ceiling on a hot night.

Hah! I just watched your care guides for T. albo and vagans, both my first tarantula purchases I got about a month ago. Funny how we chose the same ones getting into the hobby. Thanks for the tips!

I just recently got Vagans at a convention this past week. I almost thought it might be more arboreal, or non burrowing. It's still very small, sling size, but it does walk around the top half of the vial enclosure. 😅 Hopefully doesn't die out too soon

Enjoy however my male unfortunately is on his way out 😢
Ps Never open your viv room when the sun is out boiling like I did and unfortunately totally forgot u untill. To late he was barely moving!☝🏻 however I have had 3/4 sheds from him and he is 8-half years old poor little guy he no longer takes any food he stayed next to his water dish and lost loads of weight he even looks incredibly smaller I've tried to move things out/aside so you can just about see him I show you this purely educational purposes only I went into the spider Hobie but ended up in the snake industry instead I'll take a pick for ya! Don't be surprised if you end-up finding yourself in the very same place 😉

I have a juvenile and "he" I think, flicked around to bite me. Then put up a threat posture one time when I tried feeding. I had very short tweezers and it scared the shit outta me. I need to buy longer tools lol.

Yeah it definitely gets your heart racing when they threat pose! I have one that likes to climb up my tongs sometimes - that really freaks me out!!

My black velvet tarantula acts like a hamster. I can just pick her up and she's calm and collected. She's alerted when she's on anyone else.
