- COOKING TERRACOTTA
Cooking the terracotta finishes a long process of manufacture: the extraction of the clay is followed by shaping the brick, or tile, which is then dried for a long time before cooking.
There are different techniques for carrying out clay firing. But in all cases, the heating must be progressive to reach a final temperature of 750 to 1000 ° C depending on the materials, the nature of the clay and the desired color.
For large furnaces such as brick-and-mortar tiles, it is a process that lasts for several days and requires continuous attention.
Over the centuries and around the world, the techniques have long remained immutable and slowly improved.
TUNNEL KILN
The tunnel kiln equips today the biggest factories. It is the cooking products that move and pass through a fire tunnel. In the Angebault factory in Ancenis, the tunnel kiln that ran in the 1970s was 65 meters long and had a 15-meter fire zone at its center. The temperature reaches 1060 ° C.
