Thanks for the great videos.. What I can't wrap my head around is the $1470 in income and someone owning a house. People still need to pay their property tax along with PGE etc... I don't see how almost anyone in CA would be able to pay basic bills AND pay their property tax on that income.

If you live in California make an appointment to see a HICAP counselor affiliated with your County. In Ventura it's under Human Services- Area Agency on Aging. If in other states it is called SHIP.

My adult child is on (DAC}. her SSA {SSDI} will go up soon by her father's SSA (SSDI} to $1,600 and lose SSI. if she lose SSi, does she still get "free of charges Medi-Cal" ? if not, what kind ? i read. "Disability Rights of California" it says based on DAC, she should get "DAC Medi-Cal free of charge".
    is is true ?

I just recorded a video on Medi-Cal and Share of Cost which address your questions; it should be released soon! In the meantime, when SSDI/CDB income is above the maximum SSI amount ($1182/mo in CA), the recipient stops receiving SSI but can continue to receive Medi-Cal. Once a person’s income goes above $1,732/mo, they’re bumped into “Share-Of-Cost” Medi-Cal, and premiums go way up.

Can a person disabled before age 65 still get Medi-Care. Do not receive SSDI but did pay into Medicare

Typically you need to wait until age 65 to qualify for Medicare, unless you fall into an exception, like receiving SSDI benefits for 2 years.

Thanks for your question. DHCS has a web page that shows Medi-Cal eligibility and income limits based on family size: www.dhcs.ca.gov/services/medi-cal/Pages/DoYouQualifyForMedi-Cal.aspx

Does social security count towards $1470 a month? My Mom gets around $2000 a month. So does that mean she has to share medical cost?

Yes your mom would probably need to pay share of cost in this scenario, unless she takes on other expenses that decrease the $2K/mo. But she should be able to rely on Medicare in this scenario, I would think.

Hi. I’m 66 on Medicare and medical. I am being changed to medical share of cost due to an income increase. Does Medi Cal still cover my Medicare premiums?
