TheHandofGod, don’t fret too much. You can still go to the grocery store and buy food right now. This family will never go through all of this food before it spoils. It’s too much. Even he admits some of his food was starting to spoil. You have to be careful with old canned food. It can give you botulism. Those oils will go rancid before he uses them. What a waste.
@@vtecbanger3180 Go get a 50-pound bag of rice and the same for dry beans if you can find it. Go to your local hardware store Lowes especially. Buy the white food-grade 5-gallon buckets with lids. (make sure it is the lids with the gasket on the bottom) Go online while you still can and buy 15-inch x 2 ft. mylar food grade bags as well as the appropriately sized oxygen absorbers. Quietly grab your wife's flat curling iron. place the mylar bag into the 5-gallon bucket pour enough rice into the mylar bag to fill 3/4 of the bucket throw in the oxygen absorber and push it about 3 inches under the surface. open the curling iron and place the last 2 inches of the mylar bag between the heating elements of the curling iron. Run that curling iron all the way over to the opposite side of the mylar bag stopping 3 inches from the end. turn on the shop vac place the suction end into that 3 inch opening as the mylar bag begins to shrink from the air leaving the bag and all of the air is sucked out once again continue to seal the mylar that remains open with the curling iron. leave the lid off of the bucket for 24 hours if you did it correctly that mylar bag will still look like a compressed brick. Then label the side of the bucket with the contents and the date with either a label maker or a sharpie and snap the lid on the bucket. congratulations you now have a 50-pound rice bucket that is good for 20 + years. The same thing can be done with dry beans, flour, pasta, occasionally remove the tops of your buckets to confirm the mylar seals once a year. mylar bags can be found on Amazon or eBay. Make sure you use the appropriately sized oxygen absorber otherwise your preps could be compromised and make sure your absorbers stay sealed at all times otherwise they will change colors indicating they have been exposed to the air around you and rendered useless. This method above allows you to have a lower reliance on can foods only. I hope I have explained this process adequately. ******But start today****** work everyday on your preps. Water especially.

I have been called a food hoarder. I went hungry as a child. I would read books like "Kim," by Rudyard Kipling, and dream of the loafs of bread that Kim would eat. I used to raid peoples gardens at night and eat from apple and cherry trees, during the summer months. My parents were children of the depression, and kept food locked away from me. My sisters and I would play a game where we would look at magazines for pictures of food and see who could grab at the page first. I spent my early adulthood gorging myself on foods I had never gotten my fill of as a child. I know what hunger is and I never want to experience that again.
How many hungry children could be fed with this food? I'm sorry for your childhood, but if you have the resources to have a set up like this, help others. "We don't drink, but I'm sure we will after the apocalypse". Definition of gluttony, not necessity.
I absolutely love this setup, as a child I was in the Mormon church and camping/survival/prepping skills were taught to us. I for many reasons left the cult of Mormon but these things have always stayed with me and think everyone should be prepared. just look at whats happening now.
You should keep about two weeks worth of water in easily portable containers in spite of your well and pool. I have seen wells collapse or go dry, before. They can be poisoned directly or contaminated by chemicals leaking into the aquifer from elsewhere. Also if you need to leave for a short time, you will have stuff ready to grab and go if needed.
Diana Smith I said the same thing. We had wells get dry and also contaminating. My folks can’t drink their well water anymore. Only for baths or washing clothes.
@@SurvivalBetty we had three springs and a well and all but one became contaminated. Before assuming that you'll be fine, take time to evaluate what's around each, within a ten mile radius. Factories, towns and farms that use commercial fertilizers or herbicides can all contribute to runoff or seepage that percolates down into the aquifer. The only reason our well wasn't contaminated was that it was artisian. I still remember having to walk half a mile twice a day with two gallon jars to fill so we could have drinking and cooking water. It was nearly a year before the tests came clean on the springs. All I recommend is enough water for two weeks. Gallon and a half per day per person. That's twenty-one gallons. Please, I'm glad that you're storing some water, but don't let the fact that you have four wells make you complacent. We thought we were good too.
@@dianasmith8166 I have that. So before you assume people don't, please understand we don't all typically disclose our preps on social media to that depth. A house filter, portable filters, and living out in the country in western Oregon- my water has been prepped.

Yeah what good does pamic buying and hoarding do anyway except making others not have enough stuff or just being annoying in general.... Prep ahead or buy what you need. This is what I've been wanting to create for so long. I have absolutely nothing saved but some water since there is no well. And not much about since I'm retired and I have no one to work with. This is so inspiring your video. I wish I knew a man like you who was interested in creating a garden and canning and being prepared. I do want to say in case you did not see the fellow who commented below about making sure your kids don't fall off in the event of an earthquake by putting up an extra board across the shelves. David, you truly are miraculous compared to 99.9% of the population who has no clue what to do or how to do it and you've done it. And you keep preparing. I wish I could meet a a man like you who is single and would like to have a friend to prepare for hard times with. Definitely difficult to find. I've looked for over 30 years. Why anyone would think that prepping is a bad thing or makes one crazy is crazy in itself.
You need to put a board in front of each shelf so food can not be shaken off. I did this in Idaho prior to an earthquake. ALL of my stuff stayed on the shelves where many people lost a large number of their canned summer produce! Cheap protection!
Some last minute preparations might be in order... I was thinking some large plaster boards to conceal your shelving units with all of your goodies on, so it appears as if it were just a wall.
Looking at the date: almost ONE YEAR out from a pandemic. BRILLIANT!!! so interesting, especially some of his comments, like the disinfecting wipes "these might come in handy". I'm guessing you've had friends knocking at your door! thanks for sharing...kinda brave to do so, letting everyone know of your "pantry" (aka super market). I live in a town of 400 in the mountains. No Name, I suppose some of the negative comments get to me a bit but I usually find the really bad ones to be kind of funny. The ones that actually bother me are the ones from poor people that have big problems and I can't think of what to say to help them. Thanks for your comment.
@@HomesteadEngineering even the comments from the people who need help, don't apply to you. You're not the one raiding the shelves right now, so you aren't affecting them! You're actually helping the cause by staying home.
@@HomesteadEngineering forget the negative comments & people. Sadly a lot of people love misery, especially someone else's misery. You have successfully accomplished some that most will never accomplish. Probably wouldn't know how if they tried. Never be ashamed of preparing for your/your family's future. The way I look at is this: Does anyone make fun of the millionaire who has saved (put into accounts, cds bonds etc) his money for the future? I don't think so. Just be happy that you were able to do it. Usually the one's who make fun of you the most, wish they could be like you the most. They, & the others would be the 1st ones beating at the doors wanting your help!! If this makes you feel safer, happier etc, then don't sweat what the 'negative nellies' say. Even squirrels prepare for the hard times (winter) by storing their food. Keep on keeping on!! Honestly? Who do you think I'd rather run to in an apocalypse?? 🙂
Very helpful. Last hurricane threat that we never had was my eye opener. Well that and the COVID shopping for basics struggle. Everything was wiped out of the stores. Everyone here panic shops. I just wanted to get a few odd items and couldn't. I now have a full working pantry and have started the long term prepping pantry. Call me crazy if you want but I am prepared.
Why would he? Grocery stores are open, and things can be ordered online too. I’ll have to say this kind of prepping could be a life saver in tornado/hurricane areas though. During those times there’s a real shortage of food because everything gets wrecked.
@@Thomas-lk5cu Suppply chains haven't stopped yet. But if things get much worse they may well. Also having a pantry full of produce means you can cut down on any social interactions that aren't needed. Supermarkets are stupid places when there is panic. The shelves are empty and people end up getting violent while others wander around spreading their germs. These supplies mean that the prepper doesn't need to come into contact with anyone at the height of it all.
@@YTDumpsterBaby they aren't going to shut down supply chains. If all is poor people die the rich can't keep making money. They need us alive and we'll enough to go back to work lol

Ya de ya de ya.” or things to that presumption (conspiracy theories) 🙄 I’m thinking “and then what?” The rich and powerful are only rich and powerful when there are MORE people around, not less. Who’s going to buy their products/services etc? Who’s going to run the society/world they enjoy? Who’s going to work for them? If there’s less people then there’s less demand and less money they make and control, so why on earth would they want that? People like that need to just stop watching so many stupid movies....most villains in real life aren’t so black and white in morale or simply evil just to be evil for FUN. There has to be something in it for them.

Well done you not a horder you are the tomorrow man I can wait to see that movie.they are just jeluse of you

I have 4 wells all around my large property, so while I store more than he has, I also don't store much water. It's going to be situational.

@@KM-pj3cn Right! It's the smart thing to do. Some people act like it's hoarding and being paranoid. I couldn't care less about their ignorance. I'm doing it.
I can only dream of a garden that big right now. I have garden envy. We unfortunately had to use a lot of our pantry this summer since I was unable to find a decent job worth the gas, time away from the family and my husband not getting the overtime he needed. I am thankful I thought ahead and planned.
Your freezer is so organized. I love it. We are hoping to put food away at our hunting camp when we can. That is where all my family is meeting if something were to happen. We haven't done any garden prep, which there would be a lot to do since it is all shale only a few inches under the top soil. It is also very damp and humid there, so it would be interesting to see how things in cans would do.
A loss of job is one of the big reasons people prep. Glad you had some things in place to get you through. Think of prepping as the bandaid to get you through but you need renewables and the skills to go with them for the long haul. Gardening, solar power and a well will ultimately win the day. Good luck to you and your group!
I watched your video and I was so impressed, wow. Please keep it up you are truly an inspiration.
Thank you so much 🤗
My man is looking pretty smart nowadays. Kudos and stay safe!
Love the rolling rack! I can't wait to make a pantry like this. You must be happy you had all this stuff ready!
Stunning...it definitely helps to have land and money to do everything you have done..most people don’t have what you have so you will be one of the survivors when the shtf.
Brenda, Yes, money is definitely a big factor, but hard work and developing your skills is the most important thing. Thanks!
Start with the dollar store and food pantries. If spend $15 or $20 each week plus visit the food pantries. Eat the parishables and save the non parishables you will have a stash in no time.
@@rebeccaallsteadt4505 what the hell? You're suggesting people who have the means to Grocery shop visit FOOD PANTRIES FOR THE POOR TO TAKE THAT FOOD??????????? please tell me I'm just misunderstanding you here bro...
@@hoosiermama16 LoL first of all I'm not your bro. Second the question was people who said they were on a tiny budget and couldn't afford to buy any thing extra. I think you need to just breathe and think about it. Where I live there is so much poverty most hardly have any extra to even buy food for every day Life. I believe prepping is very important on any level financially. Realistically how many people honestly would have money to put up any kind of food on this level when living in a big city on a tiny income????
sj burgess Pathetic
Your efforts and preparation paid off.
That looks like Blast From the Past movie level prepping.
Ha! Now I got to go watch that movie again... :)
Outstanding pantry! You have mastered the art of food prepping with the tenacity and motivation to maintain food supplies (water too)! Bravo Sir! I'm now a new subscriber!
Robert, Welcome aboard!
That automatic can rotating shelf is awesome!!
Thanks!
Thanks for all the links, Buddy. Nice set-up. Well-organized. Thanks for all the links in your description too.
Stay safe and God bless and protect you and yours.
Thanks, you too!
You're the food pantry king, David! I voted for you on AP's contest. Knew it was your pantry! 😄 Great rolling can rack! The garden looks fantastic! Thanks for the full tour.
JT, Thank you so much! AP has a really great community going. It was really interesting to see all the other prepper pantries. I watched it twice!
The knowledge you have for this stuff is impressive! I have been trying to do prepper research and it is overwhelming.... the canning and how to’s with that....the rotation of products and dates knowing when things turn rancid etc etc.... but I’m not giving up I’ll get there!! Thanks for the inspiration!
Kelly, thank you so much for the nice comment, I really appreciate it. Try not to get overwhelmed and just take it one step at a time. Thanks!
Oh man I had a terrible day at work today, but you had me chuckle when you said" we don't drink too much but we probably start when the apocalypse gets here". Thank you for that one 🤗🤗🤗🤗 Ha! happy prepping !
Glad you enjoyed
Drawling this is beautiful, so wish I had the space, hidden my food in the walls, love all your ball jars there so expensive in the uk. Good luck, well done you, love what you done
Thanks so much 😊
You can make home made pasta sauce in 15 min , maybe 5 ingredients, much healthier than the progresso, I make it with the 1 gal canned tomato purée, you can jar it , I freeze mine , but I’m sure it would be fine. but I have about ten dinners you can make from the marinara base.
Amber, let's be neighbors, I want you on my team! :)
You COULD vacuum Seal your cereals with 02 Absorbers to keep them from going bad. Another item that truly concerns me is all your Glass Containers. You should put in an additional wooden slat to brace them to keep them from falling on the floor and shattering in the event of an Earthquake. I would HATE to see you lose ALL of that food because of the lack of a simple prep!
With that big a basement I'd guess you live outside of California😉
If there is no dividers in your jar box put rubberbands around each one also it goes along with the other comment about earthquake
@@C2yourself I'm in Florida, we don't get earthquakes. We do get hurricanes!
I’m just starting to can and save, you’ve done well sir
Just learn your store's couponing policies.
Wow! That is a LOT of Mountain House? You must have a LOT of children to feed! LOL I would be thrilled to have 1/3 of that and it would last me a lifetime. Your setup is WONDERFUL! I especially love that endless pantry! And it's so beautiful. I love how you kept as many trees as possible!
Aubrey, thanks and welcome aboard!
At the risk of sounding dumb, what is Mountain House? A brand? A store? Specialty foods?
@@kimberlyoliver680 You do not sound dumb. Mountain House is a popular brand of freeze-dried meals as seen in #10 cans filling his prepper pantry. You can buy single-meal packages for hiking/camping (check out the camping section in Walmart or REI) or larger packages which people often put away for long-term storage in case of food shortages.
Awesome job with your prepping! Been prepping for 6 months now and I’m glad I started when I did, thanks to you and many others who inspired me. God bless you, your family, and your home!
That is awesome!
Lucky family to have such a well prepared and organised man looking after them. Very impressive!
Thank you Suzanne! Boy I needed that little boost after going through so many negative comments. Thanks!

This guy is making the rest of us look bad , good job you were ready . Genius!
Thanks!
The clear totes inside the freezer is absolute genius.
Thanks J. That system does work pretty well. :)
Each time you use a jar of your home canned items, refill the jar with water. When you get ready to use it again, you can pour the water out. But if you have unused jars full of water, you have extra water for the time being.
Blown away by this!
One year I was up to 110 Qts of tomatoes, and thought I was Hot s!!!!.
This is a true pepper storage, not just my " I have food for 6 months"
My applause to you, and for you sharing this vid!
Thanks Mark!
well you got te tomatoes down, now to add other stuff too like potatoes, carrots, beans etc. :D gotta work the endless pantry
I hope to build a rolling can shelf just like that. I love this video so much, it’s very inspiring. I know you must be so proud of your efforts in times like these. All the best😎
Hello Miazac, You might want to cut it in half unless you have a large group. Here is the build video: ua-cam.com/video/NZbqU9qxUgA/v-deo.html

LOOKS GREAT GUY---I LIVE IN THE SUBURBS OF LAS VEGAS SO WE CAN'T HAVE ALL THAT STUFF SO WE STACKED UP WITH WATER AND TOILET PAPER AND PAPER TOWELS AND LEGACY FOODS FOR A YEAR AND THAT IS ALL OUR HOUSE WOULD HOLD BUT YOU DONE GREAT SIR
@KennethBarneyCastle, I'm also in Las Vegas, our heat would not be very good for many of these items. Water is my biggest concern, I can go several days w/o food but need lots of water.
@@lynnheffron6905 well i purchased a 1,500 gallon water bag enough for one year and of course lots of berky filters and alex pure filters too---got a little secret for you lynn--i relized i have all kinds of water around me and you do too im sure, i have 18 swimming pools in my housing area so need to worry about water
@@barnmonster888 Never thought about that, 2 pools 1 jacuzzi in my complex. I physically wouldn't be able to handle 1500 gal anything with my walker. Currently keep 1 gal jugs of drinking water which is all I can maneuver @ a time. Thanks for tip on Berkey & Alex filters!
@@lynnheffron6905 yea u can always manuever a gallon or two out of the pools they are already protected from chlorine keeps them fresh and not spoiling so the berky will take all that bad stuff out and make good water Im single and 66 and in great shape
@@barnmonster888 Thanks for info, need to check out those filters & prices. I think AP has them in his Amazon store. 🤗
Great video. It strikes me that 500g of spaghetti takes up less storage space than 500g of pasta shapes such as penne and conchiglie, plus spaghetti can be "cooked" in a thermos flask, saving on energy bills and less steam. I put spaghetti in a flask, add just boiled water, but the caps on and leave for 20 minutes.
No one is laughing now! My respects for you!
Thanks!
Actually im laughing... the money you have tied up is laughable... i went to the store today, bought milk and jam... shelves were stocked...weird huh
