- Stash, set-up, and show we put on July 3, 2016. Set off using Cobra system 18r2 and 7 18m modules plus a Cobra Audio box. Fireworks supplied mostly by Spirit of 76 Fireworks.
Lots of timed effects using fan cakes and other special effects. There is a good one at the 8:00 mark. Finale starts at the 23:45 mark. Included 100 artillery shells, 90 200g cakes, 20 fast fused Color Star 500g cakes, 12 NOAB (whacky tobacky), multiple fan slices, and some salutes to finish things up. The audio box was used to get music to two separate backyards.

You guys all know who you are without naming all of ya. THANK YOU ALL !! Yes I believe consumer fireworks are getting better and better each year. I just wish all states would legalize them. I will be applying for my ATF license after I watch Daves DVDs. Just got em in the mail this week. Btw I spent a lot of time working in the Houston area a few years ago and loved it. It's beautiful down there , once you get used to the heat/humidity. Lol. Still can't talk the gf into moving down there. Bummer. I live near Chicago. Thanks again brother !

Richie, thanks for the great comments. You are right, the choices for consumer is getting better and better especially some of the pro line consumer you see on sites like 76. Combine those with a firing system timed with music you can put on a pretty good show. Good luck on the ATF
You sir, take the crown for 1.4! That was hands down the best consumer show I've seen on YT. I love the music, the choreography, the drone and board views, your placement of launch stations, the whole thing damn thing. I am super impressed! Your production is standard to strive for. Dayum. That was crazy. The best "backyard" show Ive ever seen. That took alot of time. Also..... That had to have easily been $250k in fireworks. I watched a show a few years back that wasnt even close to this and it was $100k.
He said in a comment that it was about $4,500.... I can’t believe that.
Ghoulish Theories That might be what the association charged them to use the lakeside for the night. There is NO WAY that was only $4500 in fireworks. Even at wholesale. I myself have spent about $8000 and wasnt near what that show was.

This year was about $4500 mostly from 76 Fireworks. I do a lot of chain fusing with some pretty affordable cakes to make small stuff look "big". For example my finale starts with 200g Bump Bear cakes, 90 of them fast fused. They are about $2.70 each so thats about $250 for a bad ass 30 second effect. That starts at about the 22:45 mark

That finale was sick as hell. I wouldn't even know where to start putting together a show like that lol. If I was the only one working on my show I would definitely set something up like that. But the ones I do it with just want to put as many cakes up as we can none stop.
Thanks Juan. Yeah I do all the planning on it so can control the set up myself. I have a lot of cakes going off but I try to do them in groups and control the timing to avoid the sky puke effect as much as possible. Usually I get it correct lol
I did the case of 200 grams for part of the finale. Fast fused them and let them rip before hitting the racks of canisters. I was getting looks like that's dumb, but not after the show lol. Was that cake or single shots of the red crosset effects?
+Juan Villarreal the red crossette is a fan slice cake from 76. Keep up the 200g fast fuse. I have 90 200g bump bear fast fused to start my finale. I think that effect looks great and is cost effective.
+Ed Grillo yeah I have to get my hands on some slice cakes. I bought a case of winda 200's. had 6 different cakes 4 of each, I didn't think $85 was a bad price for it. I want to add 4 more 30 shot racks and get a few more cases for the finale next year.

Absolutely! I concur with the last comments. Makes my neighborhood show paltry in comparison. I'm using electronic firing, hi and lo effects and music (haven't put my Phantom drone/GoPro cam up as you have done), and need more $ participation from deadbeat neighbors. You have set the bar high for the rest of us semi-1.4 pro's, my friend!

Drone video of fireworks is so awesome. One thing that I thought was really cool was the glow from the swimming pools. You got a hell of a lot out of 7 modules!!! Good job.

Michael, thanks. lots of creative fusing going on there in addition to the modules. Had some of the initial special effects not work so would have been a bit more going on in the beginning and those 2 dead sky periods were cue failures due to some defective talons. All in all it went pretty good however.
Often the audience perceives the dead sky as a purposeful pause and they don't care at all! Just us show designers hate it.

Finale starts with 90 200g 16 shot bump bear, then goes to 12 NOAB whacky tobacky,, couple of 180 shot fan cakes, 100 artillery shells fast fused, 20 500g Color Star cakes 12 shot (those kick ass, video does not do justice) Each cake only lasts 5 seconds, five 7 shot fan cakes, and 30 salute artillery shells.
Awesome musical score set to an incredible display. Ill be waiting to see how you plan to match or beat this show in 2018. Can't say enough, I was not only Thunder but awe struck. The location doesn't hurt either. Congrats, I look forward to 2018
Thanks Steve, I have the script done for the 2018 show. It should be pretty good. Ive got a lot more Cobra hardware now compared to this show so I can do a lot more comet runs etc... I am also planning on adding some lighting effects using a couple moving head lights from Chauvet.

A very WONDERFUL, WONDERFUL, WONDERFUL display, really only marred by the first two songs - very inappropriate for a fireworks display, in that they did nothing to support what was happening. The THIRD and FIFTH tune were great, and the last one was rather perfect for the ending_ good crescendos to augment the effects. So WAY TO GO, people.
I am a retired "Old-fart", and miss the job of setting-up and helping to execute wonderful firework displays, and only my old, tired body caused me to retire after over forty years in the business. But now my kids and the rest of the crew carry the torch.
Thanks for the comment. I would have to say music choice is certainly an individual preference and not sure what you mean by the term inappropriate. There are no offensive words or subject matter in any of my songs (except perhaps Toby Kieth with put a boot in your a$$ lol). I always try to include, old school songs, new school songs, and patriotic songs. To the contrary I believe (and the crowd by their reaction) the 1st 2 songs and effects were perfectly married. The timing was absolutley perfect and timed with the beat in both songs. When you look at the comet fan effect at 3:11 each one of the 16 shots on both side is timed perfectly with a beat in the music. Same is true for the second song sequence stating at 7:35. Those fan slices were perfect with the music beat so they supported exactly what was happening. There is another triple fan slice effect hitting perfect with the music at 11:14 so overall i think the fireworks and songs supported each other. Plus I think hear the crowd cheer just when some strobes are going at low points in songs is pretty cool like at 7:10. Do appreciate the input though. Can you elaborate what you mean by inappropriate? Is it you just don't like those 2 songs by U2 and Van Halen? Thanks again for the reply... I do value all input including the constructive kind.

Yes I did. This was the first year that I had an audiobox so I figured it would help with the process. Everything synch'd pretty good.
just received my audio box & looking forward to pyromusical next year. I have only used excel in the past for scripting. it appears the cobra show creator will make the process a little easier. Can the audio box support multiple audio files? do you have any vidoes you can share of your script making(with audio) with the show creator.

Nicely done - if you ever plan on using 1.3 just know that the entire show becomes 1.3 so as long as you have a discharge permit your good to go
Thanks. Yeah know the rules for 1.3. TX rules for 1.3 are very strict, it is more than just getting a permit. You need to have a shooters licences which is pretty rigorous to get, insurance, a 54 and then you can apply for a permit. Not happening for this show lol.
I have the 54 and my CT license when I shoot shows for Bay Fireworks....but I'd never do it as a backyard thing....too many hoops to go through. PA is a much more friendly state as well as new Hampshire

Absolutely the Best Ive seen on UA-cam. I too have the Cobra System 18R2 and 4 Mods.. Time to add on. I did do a pyromusical this year but no good video. relied on audience to record for me. Been watching your videos through the years and each one gets better and better. How much does one of these shows cost and where are you purchasing from? We spend almost 2k this 4th and nowhere near the amount of fireworks you got. We live in North Texas.

Yea that was the first one I found, AMAZING for 1.4 ! How do you buy from them? Im assuming you can only purchase during public sale dates in Jun/July and Dec? Any certificates needed? Ive been watching displayfireworks1 videos but dont think I will ever do the atf 1.3 stuff.
Nope, you can buy 365 online and in Texas you can actually shoot 365 too. The limitation is on the TX retail sites that legally can only sell during the 5 periods the state allows. The most popular being the 4th and New Years Holiday periods. You only need a certificate for Articles of Pyrotechnics which are the high end proline 1.4 items. A type 54 is good for that (I have) but they also accept other training certificates. There are links on their site describing what they accept. Regular 1.4 and 1.4 proline you do not need any certificate. If you dont have a firing system not worth buying them however. IMO.
Ed Grillo good to know, I’ll have to check it out. I want to buy a firing system soon and start building a small show. When you buy online, where do you pick them up from or where are they shipped to? Problem here is I live in the city but shoot them down by cedar creek lake at a friends house where it’s legal. Thanks Chris. Figured it was approx 100 man for all the in garage prep and field set up. It is a lot of work! Usually after a day or 2 of saying never doing that again, I start planning for next year lol.

IN Cobra show creator wen u add music wen u build a script listen to beat of music an press pulse sign to add a line is that how u do that add lines to beat of music of what firework will fire
yes, that is the exact process. Create a show with exact music track you will use. When you start the script you will hear the music play and then you hit "+" to add a cue at the proper time.

I did but not the 360 one. Just saw that. Crazy! I read your comments on the wide angle lens. Interested in more info on that. I have a Canon vixia camcorder. What exact lens did you use for yours?
it was the canon R600 that I had before, but it's the G30 I have now. they have a newer model now, i think it's the G40. But when you look at canon optional accessories for this camera, one of them is a wide angle lens. just look it up, it makes a huge difference. or if you get a DSLR camera instead of a camcorder, they make all kinds of lenses for those type of cameras.

Hey Ed...Did you use "Point of Interest" with the drone footage? If so, what did you set the altitude and radius at?
A good friend did all the flying with his drones but I do not believe he used that mode. He was flying it. He had a lot more footage but it got corrupted as he was swapping out the batteries quickly (thats what he think happened) You ever run into that?
I'm a drone virgin. This will be my 1st year using one. I plan on using the "Point of Interest" feature that lets the drone circle around on it's own. This way I don't have to fly it lol

Thanks, they are gerbs. I got them from 76. They only have ematch ports so you need a firing system to set them off.

To get the music and cues to line up you need to get an Audiobox to work with your Cobra system. Then use Show Creator software to align the music and cues.

The individual comets I use have both but the fan slice cakes are ematch only.
I been doing a lot study how u do that I have 5 module now I need help we going six flag st louis then spirt of 76 after that u use 100 artillery shells I trying build my show I want 25 min show I needing help this my 2nd year with cobra
if you want to have a 25 minute show for $1500 your best bet is to get long duration cakes. For example Light Brigade is a 350g cake that is almost 2 minutes in duration www.76fireworks.com/fireworks_videos/Multi_Shots_350_Grams/MX125_Light_Brigade
Light Brigade, bamboozle, High falutin are all great duration. If you have access to racks or tubes at least you can always time using slow fuse for as long as you want. I have a little over 1000 shells alone this year but nothing as extensive as this show . Awesome work !

what drone do you have that records audio as well?
The drone is not recording any audio. The audio for the show is coming from the ground cameras and the music is from the original mp3 I made for the Audio Box. I use a video editing software that allows multiple tracks to be combined/faded/split screen etc depending on what is providing the best feed. It also allows me better control of the final audio track since I can adjust volumes individually on each of the tracks.

Michael, no I have not but am considering getting a 54. However, that would not really affect any of my shows in this area due to all the regs. Do you have a 54?

Good wind that night kept things cleared out. I also usually have enough camera angles to be able to select one that is clear depending what is going on. Generally the wind always blows from the house side to the woods side so the audience view is always good, fortunate it is that way because all the fallout also stays away from the audience. The guy that films on the far side of the pond gets hammered during the show with paper etc... lol. Drone shots are generally always clear of the smoke.

If you pause at 1:51 you can see them set up on the platform. I am taking the picture from the audience side view. They were all facing the exact same way on the left and right platforms.

Fabulous show!!! About 15 seconds into the show, you show a still of the labels and the site map... Did you make those with the Cobra Show Creator..? Curious because I'm sporting the same gear you are, minus 2 of the 18m modules... What are the chances you'd share the script..? If not, do you know if there's a forum where they do share scripts/shows...?
Charlie, Thanks! The layout is just in Excel. I do that first just so I can have a good idea where / when for all the cues. I do use Show Creator and the labels are printed from that. I would have been happy to share the script but lost it in a computer crash before I could save to cloud drive. Sorry. If you have any questions about anything I'll certainly do my best to remember the details.
Thanks for the quick response... I was more interested in reverse engineering the script to get a good idea how you queued things up and possibly saving a little typing when it came to naming some of the items used... Regardless, you rocked it man... Loved it!!!
Charlie - I found a copy of my show .csm. I uploaded it as a shared show in Show Creator. You should be able to just import it under the Show Share tab. It is called 4th of July - Grillo
