It makes sense because the beef was recently squashed at this time. I also see why him and Jay rarely do interviewers in general, they aren't very talkative. Nard s interviews with both were disappointing
+Press Pause Productions yeh, not cool to say someone fell asleep during your freestyle and i think Nas assumed he was getting all those records. I think thats why he went all wrong in the end.
I bet all the old head are like this(to different degrees, Snoop Dogg is pretty chill, but even he is side eyes Nard still), they all have some shit people forgot about a long time ago they don't want to talk about anymore.
They get to keep stuff pretty frequently.. And even if they don't get to keep the stuff, the fact that he has the respect to learn about the people he is interviewing and then bring thoughtful memorabilia to enrich the interview is pretty generous.
But whats going on with that story? Could you give the context? I felt the same thing after he asked that question, and I was wondering what was with that story that Nas did not wanted to talk about ...
thescottwino Nas does it in all his interviews he hates talking about ether because he wants to move on from it. Its just old beef im pretty sure they are cool now nas and jay so he just doesnt like bad memories brought up
How???? There's nothing wrong with that question at all. It's a funny memory. He asked RA the Rugged Man about the time Biggie broke his toilet and RA laughed told the story. I love Nas, but he was being a bit of a prick. The only thing Nardwuar should've dropped was ether after he asked the first time.
I chilled with him for a minute in St. Maarten at the Airport...him and Q-tip. They ate Jamaican food and talked Hip-hop with me. Most humble cats I ever met. I felt more arrogant than they were that's how at peace and cool those cats were.
He's definately a weird guy. But you have to give him mad respect for knowing so much about the music. Every single interview he does the dude will be like "How the hell do you know all this stuff"?
It was funny until Nas realised that he wasn't gonna take all the stuff home when he started acting like a diva, probably the worst endings in Nardwaur's history didn't even doot doot
This interview really changed my opinion of Nas. He was cool with Nard until he realized he couldn't keep shit? Bro, you're a fucking millionaire. If you want this stuff buy it. The fact Nard went out of his way to give him anything and a special shout out from Rodriguez should've given Nas all the reason he needed to show respect.
@Yosuke nah he was being rude cuz Nard said Nas freestylin made biggie fall asleep, then went on to say "this is for you" about a load of shit n then say he cant keep it. And then keep on asking about ether when nas was clearly avoiding it
Nardwuar is the man, no one comes close to the time and research that he puts in for his interviews. also pulls out crazy shit the artists never see coming.
Seems like a lot of the older rap legends don't really respect Nardwuar's style of interviewing....its a shame cuz it makes the actual interview kinda shitty
What's this special unorthodox interview style that artists don't appreciate? Pulling out mad records from the artist career that they already know about and being intentionally over zealous?
I think Nas got pissed that he said he couldn't keep all that stuff. He probably felt like Nardwuar was trolling him, which is what he does but Nas was obviously not in the mood. He took this guy long enough and is entitled to his reactions.
Nas wasn't that bad. He wasn't feeling being interviewed at first but definitely warmed up to Nardwuar. What set him off was Nardwuar bringing up Ether and Nas definitely didn't wanna get into his beef with Jay-Z, which is totally understandable. Yeah yeah, he could've been nicer towards the end. But bringing up Ether wasn't that smart of a move.
whenever Nard was talking about how Biggie fell some during some freestyle of his i think thats when Nas got irritated lol. made it seem like his freestyle was so lame it put him to sleep.
One of the best examples of Nardwuar interview technique. Watch Nas' face when given the first, second, and their albums: his personality clearly shifts and relaxes as he steps outside the moment.
Most artists really appreciate all the work nardwuar puts into his interviews plus the gifts he gives them, and he did give Nas some gifts. Of course he was not going to let Nas keep everything, those are some classics he pulled out of his bag, nardwuar can't just give away his valuable possessions, he doesn't have money like Nas. I hope Nardwuar just caught Nas at a bad time because I like to think Nas is a humble, good guy but in this interview he is way too cocky and just a genuine asshole. He didn't have to do that to Nard at the end, Nas went down a couple notches on my list, staying humble is an important trait.
Jacob Aaron bruh you lost all credibility for saying that last line😂😂who gives a Damn about their personality? I don't like Eminem personality, he still in my top 5 easily😂
@@ch.illmatic Come on man that's music business 101. If you love and respect an artist you are going to like their music more whether consciously or not. Was gucci mane a great rapper? No but he blew up bc he was authentic you believed him. If you learned Nas was a pedophile would you still listen to his music? You see my point. And you don't like Eminem? Why is that. I feel like he barely talks to make someone dislike him
Nas is not the only artist that Nardwuar has run into issues with. I've read that other artists have hung up on him/denied him an interview because they don't take him seriously. Others have been verbally and physically abusive to him during the interview, etc. It's sad because I have an appreciation for what he does. Some people believe he was upset after Nardwuar said he couldn't keep the gifts and others think he was upset when he started talking about ether (notice he didn't answer his question about the song). Nardwuar does give some of the gifts to the people he interviews, but others like some of the really rare vinyls and collectibles are out of his personal collection... but he definitely does give them some things to take home. I can't see nas getting upset over not getting to keep the gifts. I mean, nas could buy anything he wants (as with most celebrities). To me it seemed like he may have been overwhelmed with all of the gifts because of the fact that Nardwuar knew so much about him. Some people find that to be creepy. Or maybe it really did have to do with the mentioning of the Ether diss track, since that it is a sensitive subject as we all know. Personally I think Nardwuar is cool as hell. His interview method is very different, but I think the artists should appreciate it - he's not digging into their personal life to find out who they are dating or beefing with, he only cares about the music and the art. Most of these other media outlets don't give a shit about the art... they just want to know who you're fucking, who you're beefing with and they are praying you slip up and say something you shouldn't so they get a headline story. Nardwuar takes the time to research the artist and the meaning behind each artist's music. Some artists actually recognize how art-centered and art-appreciative his interview style is and they praise him for it - artists such as drake, Pharrell Williams, ed sheeran and logic have even said they were honored to do an interview with him and that it was the best interview they had ever done. I think when you look beyond his quirkiness you can see that he has a passion for art and that is very unique in today's society where scandals and headlines seem to be the only priority for media outlets and journalists.
About 7:45 (Just after he was told he couldn't keep everything) is when Nas starting getting upset. When he was asked if there would be any Nas memorabilia & responded "I don't know, what's next?". The JJ Evans question was just after that, and upset him even more.
I dont see nothing wrong in his demeanour. Nardwuar was warned about the Ether questions and he persisted, even after Nas politely said, "Yo don't do that, cuz ima take it as disrespect"
Bro he didn't even ask about the beef he asked about Dynomiteeeee and the lyrics that were in ether about him... Because he had a gift for him that was relevant to the "record"
I'm an old buzzard and didn't know a thing about rap until I started watching Nard's show. What a great repository for all the inside info covering the whole scene! thanx Nardwuar!
deadass too many people callin nas a prick for how he was actin' in the second part of the interview. he was pissed cuz nardwuar kept tryna get an answer out of him regarding ether. he tried to move away from the topic by askin "whats in the trick bag" but it was untimely close to the discovery that he cudnt take the records. he was a lil on edge but its not like he was tryna be arrogant and egotistic like some people are calling him.
@narmaK one of the most esteemed rappers of all time… “writing in my book of rhymes, all the words past the margins” , you gonna really say he uses ghostwriters ? Lmfao okay lil kid
@Phony Mex anyone with 46 chromosomes can realize the issue isn't him answering the questions or not. he was a dick towards nard for no reason. he didn't even mention jayz's name and nas took that as disrespect. seems like he's the crybaby tbh
Well nas used jj Evans to diss describe jay z and diss jay z, sayin he like jj Evans and all, nas clearly don’t fuck with jj Evans and this guys giving him jj vynal or whatever he is giving him
Yep, overgrown kid, really. Prince, or Michael Jackson, or Beatles or Metsllica dont act like this in interviews. Nas witb the very small amd insignifigabt genetialia
He took Nard explicitly saying "Nas can't keep the records" as a stab since Nas was acting low key salty when Nard was bringing up bad stuff about deceased Biggie, about Jay-z and Nas's beef that is well over, and etc. Nard kept poking at him which is not too good, but Nas should have said something in a nice manner as in, "yo I respect it but I'd appreciate it if you didn't talk about biggie that way" or "jay that way"
+currywiththeshotboy. ...And ‘Nas’ isn’t a devoid of a brain. He just decided to spontaneously be a bitch. Not to mention - to the initial person - he was getting increasingly pissier after he was told he couldn’t retain all of those records which were used as relics. That’s pretty much the proper assessment of the video when he became angry. It’s such behavior he should be way above.
Keep in mind that nard really asked for saltiness i mean he is lowkey dissing sometimes, like, how come theres no nas figure, implieing he is not as important . Then like your so boring buiggie fell asleep from you. I mean come on and first he hands him stuff and then like na thats not for you but hold it for the whole interview
I can get why Nas is mad nard brought a lot of nostalgia and flashbacks to his ol days and any nigga gets excited for that but then it's like takin away the excitement when you don't get the gift , ironically made a song called "memory lane" like I'm pretty sure some of those "gifts" meant a lot cuz those moments meant a lot
Nas has money, I doubt a few records is gonna seem like a big blow. The things is that Nardwuar actually made an effort to find these things to make an enjoyable interview. And Nas should've found a way of being more gracious when Ether was brought up like "I don't want to talk about that song". He made it, if it's brought up he should deal with it without getting pissy. And it does matter how old and mature he is, because he should be mature enough to deal with those situations
Nas just wasn't comfortable with his way of interviewing by asking questions about beef that was dropped long ago. it was also Nardwuars fault for not knowing how Nas is especially since it is his job to know as much as possible about the person he's interviewing.
Man I know Nas is a celebrity and all that, but if you showed me all this nice stuff that I have a personal connection with, and told me I couldn't keep it... Shiiii I'd be pissed as hell too
Don't see anything wrong with how Nas behaved here. Some people just aren't down with quirky people like Nardwuar. Also, if the person doesn't do the "doot doot", Nardwuar just needs to say "Thank you" and leave it at that.
Nas is a just too OG...Like he said though its all love, I don't think Nas wanted the Ether topic to transcend into something he doesn't need to get into.
you know after watching it again, it wasn't as bad as i remember. Wasn't really that awkward until the last ten seconds when Nas wouldn't do the Doo Doo. I mean even when Nardwuar brought up Ether Nas did a decent job of steering away.
Yall blame Nas but cmon now, if you interview Nas 8 years later you should know not to bring up Ether, i love Nardwuar interviews and hes better at this now but he has to realize not everyone knew the DOOT DOOT at the time so u gotta chill if you dont get it on the first try
it's not that serious, Nas can have a free pass if you want I'm just sayin... (btw I think Nas knows the Doot Doot he's a multidimensional seasoned artist)
Thomas Miller Nas tore Jay-Z a new one with the Ether track back in the day. Bringing feuds from the past let alone one of the biggest in rap culture is a tense issue so one could see why the interview went sour near the end.
Thomas Miller you would think that but look at jay-z interview when nardwuar asked who are you?...Jay didnt know he just mean't (jay-z) he thought he meant this long explanation about himself
yee i remember that one! Like Nas, Jay took the interview way too seriously, they weren't bout nardwuars humor. That's why i think the easy going artists like Snoop and Pharrell are best for the nardwuar interview experience.

How???? There's nothing wrong with that question at all. It's a funny memory. He asked RA the Rugged Man about the time Biggie broke his toilet and RA laughed told the story.
He brings out sides of artists that we would never see from an average interview. Gotta love Nard.
gotta realize nas's status in 2009 and the image he prolly felt he had to keep. and who knows how his day went.
Or maybe he's just high
acting too cool at the start makes him look arrogant. you can see him diggin those records tho. comes across like a prick for most of it tho
"Can you not put the mic so close please!!"

Na. Nardwuar kept asking about the song either. If you see any other nas interview and they ask him about either, he doesn't answer anything.

Years later this was well said
There have been others that didn't doot-doot nardwar's corny interviews.
About 7:45 (Just after he was told he couldn't keep everything) is when Nas starting getting upset. When he was asked if there would be any Nas memorabilia & responded "I don't know, what's next?". The JJ Evans question was just after that, and upset him even more.

He took Nard explicitly saying "Nas can't keep the records" as a stab since Nas was acting low key salty when Nard was bringing up bad stuff about deceased Biggie, about Jay-z and Nas's beef that is well over, and etc. Nard kept poking at him which is not too good, but Nas should have said something in a nice manner as in, "yo I respect it but I'd appreciate it if you didn't talk about biggie that way" or "jay that way"

damn this the first time I've seen narduwar get up and move after a failed doot doot! he musta been shook when nas mentioned disrespect
Shiiii I'd be pissed as hell too

it's not that serious, Nas can have a free pass if you want I'm just sayin... (btw I think Nas knows the Doot Doot he's a multidimensional seasoned artist)
what happened with ether though
Thomas Miller Nas tore Jay-Z a new one with the Ether track back in the day. Bringing feuds from the past let alone one of the biggest in rap culture is a tense issue so one could see why the interview went sour near the end.
Thomas Miller you would think that but look at jay-z interview when nardwuar asked who are you?...Jay didnt know he just mean't (jay-z) he thought he meant this long explanation about himself
