Yeah the whole S-Cells thing and tingley shit on the back of their spines to go SSJ was about as bad as explaining the Force with Midi-chlorian's in Star Wars. What's with all this love shit too, it's so ghay to explain away what is clearly aggression with love. The Saiyan's were a primitive species, the men didn't care to raise their child, they were a combat race...love is such a cheesey way to explain why Goku is strong. Goku protects his friends and family sure that made sense in the early days of DB/DBZ since alien invaders were coming to Earth LOOKING for him and the people around him were victims. Later on, Goku just wanted to seek power and get stronger to defend others, his primary focus was just to get stronger as all Saiyans do, the reason was irrelevant at this point. The Dragon Balls eliminate the fear of death and Goku's sole focus in a fight was to have the best match against an equally skilled opponent with no distractions (friends and family as collateral). So where is the love in that? The show still harks on Goku's early motives from when he was kid to a teen to a young adult...he's changed but Toriyama still on that "love" bullshit. Goku want rather train than take care of Gotens so please don't sell me this crap. Rage, fury, power, desire, lust, greed are all Saiyan traits and the reason he became so powerful. Love made him weaker, showing compassion to his enemies who were pure evil (who had the ability to wipe out entire planets and commit genocide...but here's an olive branch, I see the good in you...stupid).
Moments like this is the reason why I love Dragon ball overall.. other animes can tons better but they cannot create moments like this.. you could literally feel Goku's rage and emotions
Dragon ball is just iconic so you feel that way. Dragon ball got the og fans, myself included feeling different but other anime are honestly a lot better. But Dragon ball has its special charm that you never see elsewhere
I'd say other animes are better overall, but Akira Toriyama knew how to give great moments, rest in peace, the man the myth, and the legend responsible for all of it.

The fact that gohan basically got his power up to Gokus power level after all that time not training just goes to show his level of potential. Like they really need to do more with him.
The problem with Gohan is his emotions. After a turbulent childhood he managed to gain control of his emotions, but to the point it weakened him because he never let his emotions run free. And cockiness against Buu doesn’t count. It’s more than training, it’s his emotions because as a Saiyan with Human Emotions, his potential has always been greater than Goku and Vegeta, but because he doesn’t like fighting and actively avoided it for so long, his power faded. It’s why he got owned by first form Frieza when otherwise Gohan would have kept up with up to Final Form Frieza even after Frieza’s power up.
After the return of frieza arc. Gohan has started training with piccolo. Even though it postponed for a with piccolo training method he still gained massive. boost

Something that makes that black hole feat even more incredible for goku is the grand priest made all combatants feel the gravity of their "home" world. That means goku blasted through a black hole while feeling 10x the pressure 17 & 18 were.

I love the japanese dub. The acting in general is way more expressive and all. But I do love Sean and english Goku, and there are these instances when they change the lines to something even more epic that just sounds amazing in Sean's voice, "I will not let u destroy my world" and "Its fury" are quite up there.
Other animes are better in native tongue. This isn’t one of them lol. Dragon Ball Z isn’t DBZ without Sean’s voicing Goku. The Japanese version of Goku pales in comparison to the English dub.
@@CMiY0 The problem I have with the english dub is consistency. Schemmel, Sabat, Douglas etc. are great but a lot of other voice actors don't perform well in comparison. In Japanese I feel like every V.A. is into their character, delivering emotion and authenticity.

Which after doing the same episodes multiple times I can see why some of them lack the same energy, but still a lot of scenes fall flat in Kai compared to some of the other dubs. There are some cringey scenes in the originals don't get me wrong, but the epic moments are great. Kai lacks some of the energy that was brought to the originals. I tried watching super in dub and it just doesn't feel right. I also thought a lot of super was kind of a let down. There are few good moments, but nothing imho worth a rewatch. The retcons of a lot of content just because it was forgotten how it actually works by the creator. The power scale being all over the place with Roshi being able to fight frieza soldiers and Frost and not die instantly.

Some serious props need to be given to the actors in this scene. Sean Schemmel and Chris Sabat are always iconic but they really outdid themselves here.

The art direction; colors and auras show a great progression over the Dragon Ball franchise to indicate Goku's power, but you gotta give credit to the audio FX department for making Goku's shouts getting progressively more badass to match the hair color over the years.
I like that, in the end, Goku respects Universe 2. They're a parody of magical girl anime, which, while on it's cover is something wildly different to shonen, is actually basically it's parallel, and something the writers of Dragon Ball have definite respect for themselves. It's a neat acknowledgement of the connection between the genres.
He's up there for sure. But number 1 would still go to jotaro imo for the single line of him saying: there is only one reason you lost, one simple reason, you pissed me the f**k off
I didn't see this comment so in case anyone cares, why he says "sorry to make you wait" is because that was the first thing he ever said when he used the special beam canon at the very beginning of DBZ, a really cool and subtle nod to piccolo's most iconic move being used for the last time by him in Super that he would say the thing he said the very first time he used the move.
Still the biggest missed opportunity here. Those Namekians had the power of their greatest warriors and were able to over-match Piccolo and equal Gohan. Imagine if they'd fallen within the ring, then offered to fuse with Piccolo. He'd be weakened for a while as the fusion took hold, but he'd have the acceptance of his people as an entire universe's worth of Namekians would be joined with him, letting him fight on equal footing with the Saiyans at last. Hell, back in the day the Namekians were a big deal. In OG dragonball, just King Piccolo and Kami were stronger than anything else on earth. The individual Namekian warriors were stronger than any of Frieza's soldiers, only his elites like Zarbon and Dodoria were above them, and it was implied that until the Ginyu Force showed up, Nail was stronger than anyone but Frieza. A single fusion with Nail made Piccolo as strong as Frieza's 2nd Form. Merging with Kami restored his original strength as the Nameless Namek, making him stronger than Imperfect Cell (for a while), and at the time stronger than Goku or Vegeta in SSJ. Just imagine what the series could do with Piccolo as strong as our Super Saiyan Gods. Imagine what this warrior, more zen than Goku and more intelligent than Vegeta, could do with power on that scale. That's probably why it didn't happen, Piccolo able to trade blows with Jiren would just be too strong.
Piccolo and Buu are two characters I really want to see them so something with. Both of them have SOOO much writing potential. Especially Buu with all the powers he has. I was hyped when they were gearing him up to be in the tournament of power but then that whole “oh he’s asleep” nonsense was a kick in the balls

Exactly. According to those on Namek, The Nameless Namekian alone could've taken out Frieza, meaning he was pretty much above Super Saiyan. And that was at a time when the only training available was sparring and working out at a normal pace in Earth's gravity. That would imply that the Nameless Namekian + Nail would be a warrior with immense potential. And Namekians have matter manipulation/mystic abilities. It's not farfetched to assume that Piccolo would be capable of God Ki. Heck, by all rights he should be more compatible than Goku or Vegeta with God Ki. He should've at least gotten to train with the Supreme and Elder Kai, if not Beerus and Whis. Imagine turning that awesome a character into a glorified babysitter just to cater to the Saiyans.

I love the japanese dub. The acting in general is way more expressive and all. But I do love Sean and english Goku, and there are these instances when they change the lines to something even more epic that just sounds amazing in Sean's voice, "I will not let u destroy my world" and "Its fury" are quite up there.

Other animes are better in native tongue. This isn’t one of them lol. Dragon Ball Z isn’t DBZ without Sean’s voicing Goku. The Japanese version of Goku pales in comparison to the English dub.
@@CMiY0 The problem I have with the english dub is consistency. Schemmel, Sabat, Douglas etc. are great but a lot of other voice actors don't perform well in comparison.
In Japanese I feel like every V.A. is into their character, delivering emotion and authenticity.
@@AvengeStunneR Well that and there are so many versions of the dub out there each with different tones for each scene on dbz. Whereas there is only one japanese one and they nailed it.
Which after doing the same episodes multiple times I can see why some of them lack the same energy, but still a lot of scenes fall flat in Kai compared to some of the other dubs. There are some cringey scenes in the originals don't get me wrong, but the epic moments are great. Kai lacks some of the energy that was brought to the originals.
I tried watching super in dub and it just doesn't feel right. I also thought a lot of super was kind of a let down. There are few good moments, but nothing imho worth a rewatch. The retcons of a lot of content just because it was forgotten how it actually works by the creator. The power scale being all over the place with Roshi being able to fight frieza soldiers and Frost and not die instantly.

The art direction; colors and auras show a great progression over the Dragon Ball franchise to indicate Goku's power, but you gotta give credit to the audio FX department for making Goku's shouts getting progressively more badass to match the hair color over the years.

I like that, in the end, Goku respects Universe 2. They're a parody of magical girl anime, which, while on it's cover is something wildly different to shonen, is actually basically it's parallel, and something the writers of Dragon Ball have definite respect for themselves. It's a neat acknowledgement of the connection between the genres.

Still the biggest missed opportunity here. Those Namekians had the power of their greatest warriors and were able to over-match Piccolo and equal Gohan. Imagine if they'd fallen within the ring, then offered to fuse with Piccolo. He'd be weakened for a while as the fusion took hold, but he'd have the acceptance of his people as an entire universe's worth of Namekians would be joined with him, letting him fight on equal footing with the Saiyans at last.
Hell, back in the day the Namekians were a big deal. In OG dragonball, just King Piccolo and Kami were stronger than anything else on earth. The individual Namekian warriors were stronger than any of Frieza's soldiers, only his elites like Zarbon and Dodoria were above them, and it was implied that until the Ginyu Force showed up, Nail was stronger than anyone but Frieza.
A single fusion with Nail made Piccolo as strong as Frieza's 2nd Form. Merging with Kami restored his original strength as the Nameless Namek, making him stronger than Imperfect Cell (for a while), and at the time stronger than Goku or Vegeta in SSJ. Just imagine what the series could do with Piccolo as strong as our Super Saiyan Gods. Imagine what this warrior, more zen than Goku and more intelligent than Vegeta, could do with power on that scale.
That's probably why it didn't happen, Piccolo able to trade blows with Jiren would just be too strong.
Piccolo and Buu are two characters I really want to see them so something with. Both of them have SOOO much writing potential. Especially Buu with all the powers he has. I was hyped when they were gearing him up to be in the tournament of power but then that whole “oh he’s asleep” nonsense was a kick in the balls
@@kharizmaaa the writers kinda had to bench him for the tournament tho, think about it Buu barely feels pain, can regenerate himself and heal others, turn people into candy, stretch and morph himself and on top of all that he’s the third strongest z fighter he’d eliminate a lot of the tension with just his healing powers alone but I agree with you it was a huge kick in the balls and I was really looking forward to Buu actually feeling like a member of the group for once

Exactly. According to those on Namek, The Nameless Namekian alone could've taken out Frieza, meaning he was pretty much above Super Saiyan. And that was at a time when the only training available was sparring and working out at a normal pace in Earth's gravity. That would imply that the Nameless Namekian + Nail would be a warrior with immense potential. And Namekians have matter manipulation/mystic abilities. It's not farfetched to assume that Piccolo would be capable of God Ki. Heck, by all rights he should be more compatible than Goku or Vegeta with God Ki. He should've at least gotten to train with the Supreme and Elder Kai, if not Beerus and Whis.
Imagine turning that awesome a character into a glorified babysitter just to cater to the Saiyans.
