Hello guys and welcome back to our first review of the year, where we will be looking at the game Dyson Sphere Program. This game has just been released to Early Access and I must admit I'm impressed but there are some things that need to be changed.
In short though TLDR: Should you buy the game? Probably, Yes.

well.. I started playing at 7 p.m and it's still 7 p.m. when I checked the time !! HOW WEIRD!
Did you play 4 24 hours
Nah he played for 4 days straight
Bro the accident wasn’t your fault come out
Bwahahah
That's why there's a clock in the game HUD
The game seriously feels like a completed game already.
and devs just dropped a huge combat update last month - for free! with more contents planned to come in the future
I bought the game yesterday and 14 played hours later, I could not recommend the game more.
Why?
What kind of half ass respone is this troll?
Meh, after 14h it became boring and repetitive to me.
I am now at 23 hours played and still enjoying the game and I still recommend the game, If you don't then so be it.
Ditto 100%
Big fan of both Factorio, Satisfactory, and Planetary Annihilation. This game hits such a lovely sweet spot.
Short answer: yes
Long answer: yes
Yes
Fun facts: This game is developed by 5 indie devs in China and they don't have money to buy a 4K display.
The best Gfx card they could afford is 660Ti, that's how they managed to optimize this game so well.
@@MsFlyingCake what? given how many copies they sold on steam they should be using 8x nvidia V100 lol
@@bochen7572 the developer talked about the game, they are using E3-1230 + GTX 660ti.
well they have now, and the company has tencent as publisher ;)
How? This company has a track record of highly successful and best selling games. Many released in just the last year. That should be a lot of money on a team of 5. Something’s fishy about these Chinese
Now coffee stain has to find a new reason why fixit enslaves us, this game spoilered it right in the title.
i too always thought Satisfactory's project assembly would be a dyson sphere. but i feel like we would have already worked on solar panels of some kind then for project assembly. seeing as how we are into nuclear tech already.
lately i like the idea of us building a space based factory that produces clones. to go to other planets and build factories XD revealing that we were a clone or perhaps a full on android the whole time.
I'm getting this game for 3 reasons:
I love satisfactory and automation games in general
I was thinking about getting factorio but don't want to deal with enemies
I absolutely love space exploration games
EDIT: To all the replies about Factorio: thanks for the tips I will be getting the game (hopefully) on my next birthday
Your last name gives it away.
You can play Factorio without enemies.
@@shawnwilt7196 Even then the enemies are only really there to add more challenge. Sure you can play without them but for me personally I find it more fun with them. But hey, who am I to judge if someone finds it more fun without them.
@@owenbowen2222 agreed. I think the enemies add a challenge that is more than just "kill the aliens". You really need to plan and use well fortified and thought out defenses. Plus it keeps you on your toes for your production.
Get Factorio. It's so good. I played my first game with no enemies, then tried again with enemies but with 0 expansion or pollution so they wouldn't wreck my base. But once you get used to them, the bugs are pretty easy to deal with, and just fun to kill with a spidertron or nukes.
I’m loving this game. Think I have about 20 hours in now. The more I play, the more I like it. If/when they work out some of the kinks, it will be a solid 5 star game for sure. As it is, I’m loving it as much as Factorio and Satisfactory. It definitely made it to my top 3 building games. And I’ve played and enjoyed quite a few. (Repeating myself from another comment but really want to get the word out about this one)
For than 50% of video it sounded like you were gonna say it's bad, don't buy it and when you said it's so good I was surprised
The massive difference with this game is the scale. Having the joy of looking up at the start of your days on spear to harness the sun. It’s a bit clunky, but it has a lot of potential and is at a very good starting point.
I’m now 40 hours in and me and my mates bought the game, this game is great. The feeling of finally completing the project you started hours before just is overwhelming. Aslong as this game adds more planets and more places to explore I will recommend this amazing game.
i am idling now producing red cube and blue cube while waiting for the research to be done. windowed mode
@@jagojaya6025 the game maker said, there is no any mission for you, you can set any mission for yourself.
This game is heroin. Shout out to the devs for making such an amazing early access game (:
So what's your verdict, those of you who've already picked up the game? Worth it in your eyes?
I like satisfactory better tho
Hells to the yeah!
I have leisurely played around 13 hours so far. There are few quality of life things I'm missing that are in Factorio and Satisfactory, but there's a LOT of promise here.
Definitely worth it. I don't get people saying it's Factorio × Satisfactory. It's "just" Factorio in 3d, i.e. what Automation empire should have been. For the pricetags, it's greate quality, but I agree on controls, ui, and knformation presentation can be greatly improved.
I think the game is awesome. You forgot to talk about all the little quality of life additions right out the box. Copy/paste recipes, shift click copy item and inventory selection to build. I also love the art style. I'm currently on the second world slowly taking it over
Best €15 i spend in a long time.
The more number of good factory games, the more the factories can grow.
I'm in.
The factory's MUST grow.
Oh dear, there goes my little free time again...
there goes my working hours also.
I think that while Factorio has the whole world domination thing with pollution and nuclear missle firing spider robots and satisfactory has the more chilled approach of just seeing how much your production lines can be optimised and expanded, DSP has a few unique aspects, from the interstellar scale it presents to the challenge of building a factory on a spherical surface and as it develops further, as will satisfactory and hopefully factorio despite its full release too, I'm excited to see where it goes and how it comes to flesh itself out.
I'm just starting off and from what I can tell a lot of your criticism has been addressed, which is very nice to see
Why do youtubers think they can play a game for 10 hours and write a comprehensive review.
Ugh I only can play 2 h on Saturday and Sunday so my hours aren’t rising and I Stil played this for 50h lol
I can see you struggle to be objective, but cannot stop loving this game LOL
It's a ton of fun! I love this game. I can't believe how well done it is for an early access game, and I really can't believe it was only $20! Good stuff.
This game is brilliant, in fact it is surprisingly polished for Early Access.
I hear supreme commander?! You say what now? Havent played the other games you mentioned but supreme commander has my attention for sure
With a definite learning curve, the game develops a flow after a while. It's a city builder without people.
"city builder" is a bit small scale don't you think?
Dyson Sphere Program is one of my all time favorite games. Amazing game that will become absolutely perfect once blueprints are added to the game, which the devs are already working on and said it will come soon.
They are here and they are wonderful!
It has potential, but the interface is so slow, i get frustrated. I'll wait until they implement the keybinding changing. That will help a little.
They've added keybinding now.
since you kind of talk about this: i am reminded of why i stopped playing "oxygen not included". i felt like i had to study a bit of physics and chemistry to really advance and that was "too much realism" at some point for me? in dyson sphere program it is more/just a math thing (belts, factories, power etc.)? i could live with that. i mean it looks incredible as hell.
ONI is actually sort of worse if you know some chemistry and physics, because its chemistry and physics is inaccurate in some surprising ways. As a simple example, you can heat regolith up into magma, and then cool it down and it becomes igneous rock. Regolith and igneous rock don't have the same heat capacity, since they're not the same substance, so 1000 kg of regolith at 500C and 1000 kg of igneous rock at 500C contain a different amount of thermal energy. That much is fine. The problem is that the difference in the thermal energy between the two was not actually exchanged with the environment in ONI. This is because the phase change itself has no real thermal energy cost or output: there is just an extremely crude approximation, in that you have to go a few degrees past the phase transition temperature to get the phase transition to happen.
On its face, this sounds like a nitpicky realism complaint, but it isn't: you can abuse this particular example to make one of the most powerful power plant designs in the entire game. And it's not a bug, it's a feature. The game is full of weird things like this that are so counterintuitive that you basically have to memorize them.
I've played 30 hours by now. 19 in the first day buying it. It is REALLY REALLY worth it.
You don't really have to care about the maths other than maybe the first hour of playing. As you go further into it, everything just becomes easier to manage and understand and you can just go off your sense of direction and how things are going to play.
Very worth it, as an early access game. I'm still hoping the end game has some resource demand that's exponentially greater than what I've seen so far, or I think this game is going to end very quickly. Which is what happened for me in Satisfactory. I need something to do with my massive endgame factories. Not just research a couple things at the end of a tree and call it quits.
This game doesn't necessarily add more to Satisfactory, but it takes the concept and does it better, looking forward to see where they take it.
I think this game is not so much about optimizing/efficiency.
I just make sure to over-calculate stuffs then I'm good to go.
I love the game. Its giving you that Satisfactory and Factorio in one package while letting you relax a bit more.
this is totally worth buying if you like automation games
downvoted for nitpicking, looooooooooooool
Yep, your fussy for sure.
based on price and content
its a good yes but its factorio still beats it but its not far behind and next year should get a overhaul major update
Quite sceptical of this game, will for sure follow the progress of the development. Maybe i will check it out if i get bored of Satisfactory.
It's worth checking out - especially if you like Factorio. The game is still in early access so it's got plenty of room to develop but from a game standpoint it feels incredibly refined.
@@TotalXclipse Thanks for the review. I went ahead and got it, something to work on while waiting for update 4 to progress in Satisfactory. Hoping my spread sheet skills can smooth out the rate inconsistencies you mentioned.
@@TheFelmaster I might to check that spread sheet of yours out!
You do know calculators exist right
20+ hours in the game, 0 bugs, much factory and more. Honestly I am liking this game much more than factorio and satisfactory.
Solid video; just bought this yesterday as well, can't wait to get a good amount of hours in.
I never do the math. If the line runs dry I build more production lol
I love this game because I love space
Is it just mining mining mining producing producing producing things, whats the challenge there ? combat ? etc ?
No combat yet! But they're considering adding it!
Love the game, not sure why you spent so much time nitcpicking theoretical (not even experienced) possible slow downs in game performance if you play for 1000's of hours and build an interstellar empire. There's a lot to gush about, this is a new niche in the factory genre: planetoid/orbitals, with a clearly defined endgame (eg. why am I producing 50 million circuit boards for the Sky Father?), with 3D/vertical and no combat interference. I don't need to really stress about my meager 0.96% throughput on my copper ingots on Menkent II when I have probably 100 other planets I could go brrrrt copper ingot production onto. I think you did this review poorly, this is more of a critique/feedback of early access quirks, like exacting ratios, more than it is a *review* of the game itself, you never really went through it.
Yeah I have to agree. This wasn't a review of the game and at 10h and not leaving the starting planet you can't really say much about it.
Its a different pace of game to Factorio and ratios are not needed, Is there products backing up just add a few more factories.
Talking about the slowdown. You need to be 100+ hours in and have multiple dyson spheres before you will get any slowdown on a mediocre PC. And if you are that far in, you have completed the game and def got your moneys worth.
I am 1500 hours in and my new end game is to make 1TW of power in under 100 hours. The actual endgame is just the start. And the more you build it keeps throwing more challenges.
i think i like satisfactory more :p
Yes, Or factorio ;)
@@jensleering960 yeah!
@@morrisputman8592 In all fairness, I prefer this to Factorio, I think I played Factorio too late so it all kind of overwhelmed me. But Satisfactory is the bees knees.
@@TotalXclipse satisfactory is hard to beat...
Most of the problems you're talking about make more sense when you reach mid game interplanetary factories with drone transport systems mean it's a bit of an idle game for the first 20 hours or so but after that it's like building modules in local positions and moving what it produces to I guess large fields of factories you can mass produce things with. The complexity just adds content for me but the ratios could use a bit more polish I would agree I suppose.
I agree. Most of his criticisms will disappear as he gets further into it.
Cannot imagine how a team with only one main programmer opmized the game so well
Right. Really nice looking and very promising. However nothing beats immersive spirit of Satisfactory so far.
What is the purpose of this comment? How do you get insecure over a game lmao
Astroneer with extra steps
Looks like a mixture of Planetary Annihilation (successor of Total Annihilation by former Supreme Commander Devs), Satisfactory and Factorio.
I will definitely get the game soon
I love this game
Looked this up, good thing too, too much math for me :P
I bought this game two days ago and have nothing but good to say about it. It's a Windows game, but I'm running it on Debian Linux via Proton. The only issue I've run into is the game doesn't like to quit on its own if it's in full-screen. It hangs on the quit screen and I have to manually force-quit it. However, that only happens in full-screen, and if you put the game in a window, it closes just fine. Other than that, it works flawlessly. The graphics and engine are really well optimized; it's fast, and smooth as butter, whether walking, flying, or whipping the view around 360 degrees, the game responds perfectly. Reminds me more of Factorio than Satisfactory (I have both). I haven't made it off-planet yet, but with about 10 hours in, I'm gonna say it's definitely worth the money.
I'm concerned for late game play, but as it stands I fully agree with you. I look forward to playing it more
One change I'd like to see is a drag and drop function that you can use to remove trees, rocks, plants, etc. So if I wanted to clear an area I could just drag a box around the area and my drones would go to work removing it all.
This feature is here now! It's awesome
Bought the game on Saturday and already have more than 40 hours😅.
The game is fantastic! Not a single bug yet, no framerate drops and what I think is one of the best games we will see this year!
I'm scared of buying another addicting game
And so you should be :D
The Dyson Sphere sends you a message. It reads only: "Join us. Join us. Find happiness in the light. And in optimising processes."
Made in China,I like it.
Once you get some upgrades on your mecha armor, you'll be flying and running around like crazy. power won't be an issue. As for optimization, i've not encountered frame loss and i've build interstellar bases and two dyson spheres/sails
All really good to know, especially for the late game :)
How did they even do that with the rock-solid framerate? Some ancient Chinese magic at work there.
I would argue the logistics in this game is too good. You can build a station that ships anything to anywhere in the universe without needing any infrastructure on the receiving end
I have to tell you if the math is simplified, I might lose interest in it. Math is part of the fun. But I might be biased, cause I'm chinese and an ASIC/FPGA engineer.
Yes. I did like mathematics in school and I have designed stuff with FPGA's. Although I tend to just build things in these games and ignore the perfect ratios.
The answer to the title question is:
Yessssss.
God I love this game! I'm 3 years late to the party, but that's a GREAT thing given how evolved the game is now.
I was hoping the game was more of an RTS-city-builder like Surviving Mars turned up to eleven. While I appreciate the complexity of these sort of games I feel they are way to cumbersome to play. They have way too much micromanagement involved for me to truly enjoy them.
So this is basically if factorio has 3d view... it is interesting
'Just because it's got plenty of content, it doesn't make it a great game, or for that matter worth a buy, and truth be told the game feels very clean I haven't encountered a single bug'.
What?
Makes you be a programmer a little and do the math for it. If everything is self explained it would be boring. In 2 nodes per x belt per 2 smelters would get old
Hey I played and am now bored with skyfactory3 and 4, satisfactory, and factorio. What games would you recommend that are like Satisfactory, but are more complete? I like the more story element that I see planned in satisfactory, but it just isn't there yet.
I have 12 hours in two days. It cost me £12 in Anglo money. I have precisely no problems with this game. Now if you'll excuse me, I'm off to optimize my expenditure/enjoyment ratio further.
The slow walk and mecha energy are a pain the first time you play, on my second playthrough I chose a better planet that didn't leave me on a tiny sandbar, I also built everything localized so walking wasn't a thing, I moved my wind turbines into a field and gave me loads more room for factories, a great push in research will unlock the drone transport systems so I'll always be working locally.
A tip. In planet view mode, you can access your logistics towers. I like to use them as semi storage so you can grab anything you need from anywhere on the planet with planatary view mode
The need for comprehensive calculations to make efficient factories is a big reason why these games are as satisfying to master as they are. As a Factorio player, you must know this. Simplifying the ratios would considerably decrease the positive feeling that accompanies the accomplishments in the game, and as a result reduce the appeal among the typical players within the genre. Although an in-game production calculator might be nice, like the Max Rate Calculator or Factory Planner mods for Factorio. Otherwise, good review.
A big problem this game has IF you are looking at it from a very efficient player mindset, is that this is on a galactic scale where planets have orbits, rotations, sometimes they are moons orbiting a planet which orbits a star. Or you even have planets orbiting blackholes.
Which means that inter planatary logistics with stuff being shipped between planets or solar systems is not at all consistent. If the orbits of two planets match up at one point, your delivery speed and resource throughput will be very high. But if the two planets in another moment are on opposite sides of the solar system, then your delivery time is very slow and throughput is down.
That's why I don't care about the math. I just go by feeling
If you like factorio you will like this. They even made the early game to be familiar to factorio players. They know their audience
Looks like an annoying 3D Factorio
Factorio was already not fun.
If you dont like working out ratios...why are you playing it? This game is for people that love building complexity. I personally cant stop.
I was curious about this, but I don't think, review after few % of content is a valid review. So you didn't leave "noob island" and you are making review? This "review" won't answer my question - is it worth buying.
Wow. People are going fucking nuts over this game. Watching this review was definitely triggering that logistics switch in my head.
Does active know when they plan to add conflict to the game? As human nature dictates, I operate better with an enemy to defeat. I've read somewhere that the developers have been constantly dropping updates since its release into EA. I hope they've added enemies already 😁
Thanks for the review~
You sounds very dissapointed whilst saying very positive things. Haha, very mixed. Maybe it`s how you use your voice?
if they sold this as a completed game i think most people wouldn't bat an eye and this in an age in gaming where as you said most AAA "completed" games are full of bugs and with missing features
It was a very pleasant surprise
Why you think game will slow down? I'm running capped to my monitor refresh rate after I filled the first planet. Planet won't need to exist when you're not there, only the basic math calculations.
Only experience from other games
Just bought this game. Based on what you've criticized, it seems just like my type of game! Gonna give this a like and start playing👍
totally worth the buy. I love this game so much! Great review Total!!
Played for around 15h now.
Still love it.
Sure it's complicated, but not too hard.
And it's extremely interesting. :D
I really want to visit other's galaxy....it will be Soo bad ass ....
I bought it and i'm really liking it, however factorio will always win :P
Lol then you get a 10% mining efficiency with no buffs to buildings and you gotta rebuild your whole base
"Optimizations will constantly happen" ❤
I bought it and I really enjoy it.
Im playing it... And I want more.... MORE ... MORE!
Amazing game... 24h on it already....
I hate when games won't let you bind the keys, it's a shame, otherwise I would have bought it right away. They promise that they will let you bind them in the future, like with Arboria, but months and months later it doesn't happen. It can't be that hard to put a feature games always had.
Thats what Autohotkey is for. Also the latest PowerToys for windows lets you rebind keys. And it is very helpful to have a macro keypad or keyboard.
i want a multiplayer just as Factorio and Satisfactory has.
Everything is ground base? No space stations, nothing in space happening other than the ultimate goal to build a Dyson Sphere?
I can't say - I haven't gotten that far yet.
I managed to make a stable factory, the only problem is that i dont have enough storage
A month later and everything is not effichent at all and im trying to get space warpers into transit systems
I was about to buy this until I saw you can't set your own keybinds yet. Has that been implemented yet because I won't be able to play without that.
I want it but the graphics card is lacking
Ill wait for time when they implement enemy forces.
10 hours streaming it and you choose to review it
sure
I judged the game way too early. I played for 30 minutes and got nowhere. And the controls were so confusing, so I refunded the game. Worst. Decision. Ever. You might say “just buy the game again” here’s the problem. I got it on sale and the sale will end before my refunded money can be used. Steam is such a a-hole with some of their policies. LIKE 7 F-ING DAYS FOR MY MONEY. I wish it was instant, but noooo crappy corporate people said “let’s make the people wait 7 days for their money!” Also if you are wondering why I don’t just spent the extra money. To that I have to say “I’m a broke ass teenager”
Sounds like a you problem. If you can't afford to buy a game twice, don't buy it at all.
Also steam refunds take 1 day at most for me, so it seems there are more issues on your end.
you didnt find a bug, because you just didnt see anything of this brilliant game in your 10 hours of playtime. I have over 400 hours on a silngle playthrough!
I mean it was a first impressions review out on day one of the game. If you've got 400 hours in a play through after several updates, this video probably isn't for you. 😉
you make some realy good points on what to improve, i'm very hyped about this game, can't wait to play more :)
Saw this game in the Isaac Arthur group on Facebook and decided to check it, so I’m loving it
Satisfactory has raised my power bill already. Fake resources cost real resources. I want my life back
Uff how much do you play
@@user-vy5hc9ud6l I finally broke free after I built everything
It's fun, but the planets being so small really makes the sense of scale incredibly off. :\
maybe your just large
This game is a lot more like factorio than satisfactory.
A friend is getting into this one and said nice things about it, and I'm like... do I want to get in on the ground floor of New Shiny Thing or keep making progress in Satisfactory, which I only picked up in early December? I don't have /that/ much free time to go around. Hmm.
Now that is a hard one, it's worth it but there are plenty of hours to be had in Satisfactory to be had too
Im not getting the game because If i do I know that I will lose my life
