- So this is a client build but my goodness, I absolutely love the HEX4B, I feel like even though this did well in sales, it wasn't talked about enough when it was out and still isn't talked about enough! It's just SO good.
I ended up swapping out the stab spring for a heavy one.

I think the main reason why the board didnt get the attention it needs is that most people eliminated it as a board to get due to the strange layout, or due to the plateless nature of it, or due to the expectation that it's a "budget" board due to the price point of the board out of a brand that not that many people are familiar with. There's also some barrier to entry considering it's basically expected to solder for this board.
I personally think it came when people were transitioning their interest from compact 75% like the Jelly Epoch to exploded 75% like the 7V, Thera, Gmmk, Q1 and more. I also agree that being solder-only for a "budget board" is a huge bummer for new comers.
@@z4k1_zaki65 it is in most sense not a newcomer board outside of the price and external case design. Hex keyboards probably not being that well known internationally might have also contributed to the wrong impression. (Not 100% sure of this, someone correct me if i am mistaken, since... I know hex keyboards from a local context)
You know what, you're not wrong. Im a bit bias since i like both exploded layouts and non-exploded so I was kinda shocked when this board didnt get the spotlight it deserved.
Everyone wants the exploded 75%
And the fact that it needs to be soldered means that it's not for beginners, it's more of an "iykyk" keyboard for pros
I had the Dreamcore edition of this board, which was an exclusive collab between Hex and Dreamcore (a custom PC shop in SG, if I wasn't mistaken) which came in purple. The board was fantastic, and the plateless implementation is amazing as well. The only issue with the board is the PCB, both the v1 and v2. They just tend to have this ghosting issue or whatever you call it where if you press a key, another key would be registered along with it. But other than that, this board is absolutely amazing. Feels good, sounds good, and I personally enjoy the simplicity of the board and of course, the unique layout it features for a 75%.
During the recent ATO meet-up in Malaysia, I managed to chat with Kaster about the 4B, and the potential collab with Singa for the Hex 4Bee. He mentioned that for the Singa collab 4Bee, I'd have to ask Elaine, and when I did, she mentioned that the 4Bee is still a long way to go as she has a lot of projects for this year. But Kaster on the other hand, mentioned that the V2 of the 4B is in the works. He said that the O-ring design this time will be a lot closer to how it's implemented for the 50FE. I honestly can't wait to try out the V2 of this board, because the current one is already very, very good, especially when you consider the price.
Yay, this board was my first ever custom and made me really fall in love with this hobby.The board is definitely slept on, thanks for showing it some love. I also think you did the right thing by not including the spacers for the leds. Mine ended up being so tight against the case, that the whole right side of my board became stiff and I unfortunately had to desolder them.
I love how there are F keys on such a small design. This design is so good!! I hope this layout becomes more popular
I got (Still waiting) the HEX3C from your recommendation and review from a few months ago. Seems like with this HEX is also a winner. Man its soo good to Wait instead of buying everything on the market. The 3C will be my second last custom board in the hobby and I'm pretty happy with my choice. Also it will be my First and Last plateles board too.

I actually love the layout of this build. It's the closest layout to that of the MacBook keyboards. I think a lot of people, including myself, skipped this one because it was solder only

Would absolutely love it if they did an R2 with a usb-c daughterboard! I remember watching Shoobs vid on this near release, and at the time, I didn’t have the soldering skills, but since then I’ve become a huge fan of plateless boards (currently have a plateless Thera75 v2 and JRIS65), but I’d love one without flex cuts in a 65/75 layout.
Like wise, i would love another go at this board with some minor tweaks!

People got bored of the marble sound quick but I personally still think JWK switches, PE Foam is the second best sound profile you can get, Vints on Allu will always be number 1 but JWK’s with PE Foam and full marble builds is a close #2
That sounds crazy good; would've maybe added a PC plate but no plate is fireeeeeee
A small comment I saw come up during the stream about whether you can see the red PCB when you're not using the poron sheet. I own this board and don't have the poron sheet and I can clearly see the red PCB through the spaces in between the keycaps. I have GMK Pono on mine just fyi
met someone who really liked the clumped layouts and hex4b was the one. unfortunately the rest of the extras was already sold out and aftermarket is ehh
What silicone mat is that at 1:06? Cant find it at all in your links, and I'd love to have it to keep a clean workspace while lubing stabs!

I got one and loved it but the PCB stopped working within a week :(
What did you do? I bricked mine while trying to flash qmk, but they kindly provided me with the bootloader and everything is working fine again now.
@@gk5947 I was typing and the keys started working on-and-off for a couple seconds, and then it fully stopped working. It also then fully stopped connecting to my computer (and other devices after testing). It was super weird, I'm hoping to figure out a solution if possible soon :/ i'll look into the bootloader though!

To bad most of these builds you can't get. Soon as I see that I just stop watching. No use in getting excited about something you can't get.
