- The best interior layout for a small campervan?
We’ve fitted a U shape lounge and bed system to this VW T6
We believe it’s one of the best if not the best interior to get the maximum use of space to convert any small T5/T6 sized van into a day van or camper van.
We’ve fitted this set up in a number of different vehicles from Volkswagen T5 to Vauxhall Vivaro and Ford Transit.
In this particular interior we’ve modified the rear unit and replaced the open style cupboard with a drawer which can be used to house a cooker or grill. In this case we have chosen a Cadac Pro twin burner grill.
With the added extension of another table you’ve also got lots of extra worktop space for either food prep or using a portable sink.
This is a non seat belted system and can not be used as travelling seats while driving, so the van is ideally suited to couples who enjoy an open space design and don’t want to compromise on storage space.
Under the seat/bed are large cupboards to store a variety of camping equipment.
An Oak roof with matching side panel compliments the solid oak worktop and table. Using the Oak creates a lovely warm environment and we use osmo oil to protect and finish the wood. This is food safe and offers long lasting protection and a great finish.
A solar panel keeps the batteries topped up and enables the separate 12v leisure system to power lighting, USB charging and a 12v to 240v inverter to power a variety of items without compromising your van battery.
Up front we’ve swapped out the standard double passenger seat to a single captains seat with lumbar support and twin armrests.
A super comfortable and easy to use camper van which can be used everyday.

Love the U-shaped layout, seen quite a few vans now with this rather than the traditional "down the side" furniture / RIB. IMO works best with LWB. I would also have a pop top for both headroom and alternative sleeping to keep the lounge area sometimes rather than make up the bed all the time.

I hate my rock n roll bed. Its solid even with an inflatable mattress topper. Desperate to refit mine. This is lovely.

Interesting layout. However think there are now only two belted seats? Just wonder if having everything fixed might be restrictive? For example my drive away awning is quite large even when packed so not sure it would fit. However it is always great to see a creative use of space . Well done for a lovely job.

We could have up to three seats up front with the belts on. So two adults and a child could travel safely if you have the double passenger seat.
This van was really designed for a couple though. We have a driveaway awning from outdoor leisure and it fits in the cupboard under the seat next to the main cabinet. If you have quite a large awning you may find it doesn’t fit as you said, this would be the first thing to set up once you got to your site though so wouldn’t be in the way for long.

Broadly speaking the U-shape for a VW T5/6 is 1600mm wide and varies between 2245mm long (SWB) to 2490mm long (LWB) on the cabinet side. And 1720mm (SWB) to 1820mm (LWB) in length on the other side.

Hi. It’s a Cadac, two cook pro deluxe.
How wide is the bed once its setup? Is it the same as a rock & Roll (3/4 width)? It looks like the person sleeping on the right hand side (viewed from the rear) would have to be short as the cupboards would be in the way? Is there a U shaped solution that provides a full width bed?
The idea is it provides a good compromise on full width and keeps some cupboards for storage and a worktop suitable for a cooker.
The top of the bed is the full width of the van.
The person sleeping on the shorter side doesn’t have to be short but instead sleeps at a slight diagonal. This creates a much larger space as the shoulder area is increased.
The section passed the cabinet is the same as a 3/4 rock and roll bed.
The other benefit it when dining you can sit opposite each other in a much more natural way. Rather than next to each other on a traditional rock and roll bed.
The other option is a full length on both sides but with a much smaller cabinet.
Love that karndean floor too. What is the name of that one?
Natural oak with dark oak strips.

Is the furniture removable or do you offer a removable version of the same layout please? Im interested in this layout for my t5.1 kombi but with a smaller work surface unit as i have twin sliders so want the same gap as on the "long bench" side...
This won’t fit the kombi, we do specific furniture for the kombi which can be made to be removable.

Hi, the units are satin black. The roof and side panel are Oak veneer. The floor is oak with dark oak strips.
What sort of cost is it for that type of layout? Can extra overhead cupboard space be added too.

Unlikely, the connect is much smaller than a T5/6

I’m not really sure why that would be. We’ve played this back on several different devices and don’t get the problem you mention.
If it’s any consolation we don’t have the radio on anymore when filming. I thought on this occasion it might have been nice as it was Christmas when the video was made.
