    Hi Gabi. Yeah I've done that section both Nobo and Sobo. I really like that section of CT. The down of St Johns ledges will prepare you some for the daily steep/rocky up and downs in NH and Southern Maine which are no picnic. I vlogged my hike in 2022 with my pro max 13 and it was great. I purchased 512GB for the storage which was no problem. The only issue I've run into recently is that I'm having problems exporting my videos at times to my photo library and I haven't even used half of my storage space. I've googled it and it seems to be a common problem with Apple. Just beware as its been very frustrating. I have to go back and delete several videos from photos and then then restart the camera and wait until the next morning and then it somehow magically exports. Go figure! Good luck again and hope to see you out there at some point as I'll be out on trail with my hiking partner doing trail magic in 2023!!

      That’s true, it’s definitely an interesting descent. And oh wow I hope I don’t run into that problem. Thanks for letting me know!

    A little tip for dealing with the wind noise across the iPhone microphone is to get some of the old-fashioned foam hair curlers and remove the plastic center column and slice the foam down the side lengthwise and that slips over the microphone end of the phone, acting as a noise muffler so the wind noise doesn't sound horrible on the video. Those rollers can be picked up at a Dollar General or on Amazon in packs of a couple of dozen for pretty cheap. There are videos here on YT that show that in action along with tests in front of a fan with and without the hair curler foam hack.

      @@gabicerrahikes Well that’s a good start, good on you. But seriously, a couple days purposely on trail with known bad weather will give you unlimited experience on many levels. Additionally, it rewards you with confidence, knowledge, and can be inspirational in value.
      Keep up the good work and have fun.

    The iPhone 13 has a great camera, that’s what I’ve been using for most of my vids. I use a light selfie stick that has a built in tripod on the base ~5.5oz. Your vids look great. I just started sectioning CT…will probably get to this part mid January as my next hike. The views look great. The leaves were definitely messing with me in the 10 Mile River area end of November. Keep on hiking!

      Hey Kriz how you doing? Do you ever have a problem exporting your videos to your photo library with your 13?

    • @KrizAkoni
      @KrizAkoni Рік тому +1

      @@stanthemanhikes2965 When I 1st got it, yes. I then discovered the default camera setting on the phone is for HDR and it gets compressed in a format many PCs and editors don't like/support. I set the camera settings (formats) to "most compatible" and this fixed the issue.

    Gabi, I am a fellow Nutmegger and will be watching and following your adventure. I have been doing videos on my own channel and plan to do The AT myself hopefully with in the next few years. I think you will use the tripod for additional perspectives and B-roll, which will complement your vlogging. I have the iPhone 12 and It takes great video. You may want to purchase an external microphone for it. The issue is the wind. You'll need a foam windshield or a dead cat to cover the mic and eliminate the wind noise. Best wishes!

    I like your plan for videos. For my 2024 attempt, i want to vlog it, but don't want it to become like a part time job to the point where I am not just embracing the journey. I am looking forward to your starting! Watching from Minnesota!

    At 7min in, when you are showing all the trees that still have their leaves, it's because there are two types of deciduous trees. Those that lose their leaves in the fall are trees that grow a layer of cells between the leaf stem and the tree branch, called an abscission layer. This layer protects the plant from cold and dryness, and causes the leaves to fall off. There are some trees though, that don't grow this layer until the spring. These trees are marcescence. The leaves closer the ground are the ones that will stay all through winter, but throughout the winter the leaves higher up will be 'torn' off by wind, snow, etc. Typically these are oak trees, beech trees, ironwood, hornbeam. There are a couple of different theories about this. One is that the trees retain their leaves to protect next year's buds from deer and the harshness of winter. Another theory is that the tree acts as a flag to deer, as most of the trees that do this are nut bearing, so the leaves in winter signal a food source for deer and other animals. So although one area looks "dead" and the other area looks like "fall", it's just different groups of different species of trees. 🙂

    Very nice. Nobody should be confident on wet leaves. The dry leaves on the surface hide the wet slippery ones underneath, says the guy that slipped and fell last week. You are showing good instincts. Have fun practicing hikes and with your gear. You can even camp inside to perfect the adjustments on equipment. Merry Christmas and a Healthy New Year. Good Luck, Rick
