We go over if the DIY Peloton Bike setup for less than $400 using the Sunny Health & Fitness SF-B1002 Bike is better than the Sunny SF-B1805 or Sunny SF-B901. We review how we maintain our Sunny SF-B1002 along with the capabilities of the Wahoo Cadence Sensor and why the Wahoo Speed Sensor does not work for indoor fitness bikes. We also discuss heart rate monitors such as the Polar H10 Heart Rate Monitor.

UPDATE: THE ANDROID VERSION OF THE PELOTON APP NO LONGER SUPPORTS ON-SCREEN CADENCE . YOU WILL HAVE TO USE ANOTHER DEVICE AND THE WAHOO APP TO DISPLAY YOUR CADENCE.
We are still loving our DIY Peloton Bike. We wanted to answer some of the common questions we have been receiving. Thank you for all of your support!
Question: does it work on android or just on aplle or iphone
@@hildamendizabal6181 There is an Android and IOS version of the Peloton app.
@@hildamendizabal6181 morning my buddy
the IOs Version still does?
@@Alex-eh4ot As of 1/4/2021, yes, the cadence sensor is still support on IOS.
We tackled assembling the bike as a family project. ua-cam.com/users/postUgkxzg0clhbtRf2gGxPkVETFKJJKGqdsorQu The package is heavy, but I have 2 teen boys that were able to move it. The written instructions were great- we didn't need to watch the videos, but it was good knowing that the option was there if we needed it. After we were able to get it set up, the boys each rode 3 miles and I rode 8 and the bike stayed quiet. The display is easy to reset, and you can put it on whichever setting you are using (time, distance, calories, etc). I will say that my butt is a little sore from the seat, but that could be because I haven't rode in a while. While it is comfortable for me, it was not comfortable with the seat position for my friend (could not move the seat back far enough and he slightly looked like a kid riding a tricycle that he had outgrown). He also said that the seat hurt his manly parts. We are going to look for a different seat that will be compatible with this bike for him.I did purchase the Wahoo Cadence sensor and strapped it to the crank of one of the pedals. This will sync with my Apple Watch, iPhone and will import data in to my Health app. Wahoo does have other sensors available other than cadence. I can also keep either my phone or my iPad on the display and they both feel pretty secure.
Yeah, I get a little bit of that when you really peddle. I think it is from the handlebars. It does not bother me much, so I have not looked into it. Sorry.
I have a peloton but I still really enjoyed watching this. I don’t regret spending the money but this is definitely a great way to go as well. No matter how much your bike costs the work you do on the bike is what really counts.
Spot on. I would rather see you wear out a cheap bike and then see a dusty Peloton. You have to put in the work! Thanks for the comment.
Excited! My bike will be here tomorrow! Thanks for doing this and your previous video. Really helpful.
Thanks for watching, happy peddling!
Literally just brought all the things suggested with last video. Bike came yesterday & I can’t wait to try it out! The details for these videos are just great & very informative ....Love it & I too love the stairs lol
Awesome! You will love it. I did a Rock Workout with Kendall Toole last night. You will have to let me know your favorite Peloton instructor.
Thanks for this review & your first on the SF-B1002. Helped me decide on getting this model on Black Friday. Arrived today & already using it. It's awesome!!!
Great to hear, you will have to let me know your favorite Peloton instructor.
Just received my bike after watching your last Peleton video. Can't wait to get started. This was SUPER helpful. Thank you!!

This is by far the best video I’ve found on this bike! Thank you so much! So informative.
Thank you!
OMG you guys are reading my mind! Did my setup based off this video and I was just trying to figure out the resistance for my Peloton rides. Thanks so much for doing this video!
Glad it helped, happy peddling! Thanks for watching!
Hi! I've watched both of your videos and I decided to go through and purchase all of the equipment! Amazing videos and really informative. I feel more confident knowing what accessories I need and I am so excited to begin this workout journey!
Thanks for the comment, I am glad we were able to help. You will love the bike and app. Happy peddling!
I bought the sunny fitness and sensor of your video a couple months backs. Bought the echelon only for my husband to buy me a peloton for my bday.
Awesome, great vids! Great people and so well explained. So glad I can do all of this to my bike, and give Peloton a try 😀👍
Thanks, and good point. This solution will work with any indoor bike. I particularly like the Sunny bike because of the heavy flywheel, but the sensor and app will work with anything. Thanks for the command and watching!
Excellent setup. The heavy flywheel is what sets this model apart from most. Cheers.
I agree, smooth ride, very sturdy, and a great workout. Thanks for watching!
Bought a Sunny bike last year and have been really happy with it! The one change I would make is that the handle bar mount has a slight downward angle. Other bikes I’ve been on have always had a more upward angle.
Thank you for this video! I have this bike and the app, and the upkeep/maintenance demo was very helpful!
My pleasure, thanks for watching!
Awesome video. I just got my bike set up and did my first workout and this was really helpful.
Outstanding, you will have to let me know who is your favorite Peloton instructor.
Your first video inspired me to purchase the Sunny Magnetic resistance bike, now I’m just waiting for the delivery. I’ve also ordered a Wahoo cadence monitor and IPad stand and will hook up to Peloton as soon as I can. My wife and I are total novices to spin biking, so looking forward to the workouts!
You will love the bike and the workouts. New year, new you, right! You will have to late me know your favorite Peloton instructor.
great explanation! i've used some of your tips when i bought my bike. thanks for the video!
Thank you, happy peddling!
Thank you for the awesome review!
My pleasure!
I bought my wife the Sunny 1805 magnetic resistance and the wahoo sensor and hear rate monitor for her to use with peloton app the end of last year. She had used her sisters Sunny bike just like yours with the pad and the magnetic resistance makes all the difference in the world but it is a few hundred more but highly recommend these sunny bikes tough as nails. Good video.
Good to know. I have tried the magnetic resistance and it is definitely quieter and smoother. But it was not worth the extra money for me at the time. I did not know the quality of the Sunny bike or even if my family would like the Peloton classes. Now after almost two years, I have a different notion. The bike gets used almost everyday and sometimes multiple times. I *might* splurge if I bought today.
Another awesome job on an exercise bike video. Just prior to this video I watched your previous one.
Great for you to go over those aspects.
Thanks for sharing!
Thanks for sharing about the flywheel 'pulling' you. I had not realized that! I currently ride my road bike on a trainer and as you know most regular bikes have a free wheel (you stop pedaling, yet the bike wheel doesn't stop and visa versa). Too bad that only the very expensive exercise bikes have a free wheel.
Right, indoor bikes just have the brake, usually you push down on the mechanism that adjusts resistance.
It is very informative. getting one now. Thank you.
Awesome, great way to get in a good workout in the winter months. Thanks for watching and kind comment.
Really great summary thank you so much.
My pleasure!
Thanks so much for the video. Really good information.
Glad it was helpful!
Buying this because of your video! Hope they are cutting you a check!
Thank you so much! Thanks for watching!
Purchased everything listed! My wife and i couldn't be happier with the same results as a Peloton for only 500 bucks!
Awesome, so glad you liked it. I just finished a class with Alex. You’ll have let me know your favorite instructor.
I have a Sunny 1805 and it's magnetic. I found that the 1005 (like yours) has the friction resistance pad.
My magnetic is so quiet I can ride in my bedroom with my 1 yr old grandson sleeping in the bed and never wake him up.
My breathing and rustling clothes are the loudest thing in the room. Love it. I prefer not to join internet groups as I tend to hammer harder than they do. So big savings there! I just start a movie and spin through it for 90 minutes while cranking down on the resistance every few minutes when I get inspired. (When there's no Grandkids around of course!) But, I've been cross cycling for over 40 years. I love the infinite adjustability of the Sunny Stationary bikes over some of the others. I have mine tuned to the same dimensions as my $8K racing bike.
Thanks for the comment. Great to know that you have had the same success with the 1805, I have had with the 1005 albeit quieter. Your comment and general great quality of the Sunny product line gives me confidence to recommend the 1805 if people find a good deal or want to spend the little bit extra for a quieter ride. Happy peddling!
just got a sunny bike,SF-B1879. I am gonna get the cadence sebsor next. thank you for the reviews! also I did the math for resistance, 7 full turns (maxed out on my bike) is 100% resistance so i rounded up to 15% per full turn. helps with the pelaton app. only drawback is remembering how many turns you've done lawl. happy cycling..
Cool you will dial it in over time
Enjoyed your video! I was using a pro form bike and recently upgraded to a used but in great shape commercial spin bike. The resistance on the pro form wasn’t doing anything for me, but I went with the cadence sensor, my Apple Watch as my heart rate monitor, also bought an iPad tripod and the combination has been great. Thanks for the video.
Very cool, happy peddling!
Another great video, thanks for the update. Kendall Toole for me too.
Thanks! I like her workouts, they are usually close to a 9 in difficulty, she plays some good tunes of my hay-day, and well it's Kendall.
After watching your first video and then this one, I got on Craigslist and found the exact bike for sale. It was in great shape and I was able to pick it up today. I'm going to add wahoo to it and probably a tablet holder as well. Thanks for the advice. I'll be trying it out this evening!!
You will love it! Be sure to oil the pad especially if it has been sitting. Let me know how it goes and who’s you favorite peloton instructor.
@@OutsideChronicles , The previous owner told me about oiling it and he had just oiled it before I arrived to take it for a spin! I'll keep you posted. Thanks

Thanks so much for both of your videos, super helpful...
My pleasure, if you decide to go with the Sunny bike, you will be happy. It is still Rick solid for us. You will also enjoy the Peloton app. Thanks for watching and the comment
@@OutsideChronicles I’m looking at going with the Sunny Synergy I’ve been looking for a review on it but unable
To fine. I was wondering how the wahoo and peloton interacted together and your video was perfect
@@atwitty22 the Synergy seems like a good model. The big difference is the flywheel weight. I think you will be happy. The combo of the Sunny bike, Wahoo cadence and Peloton is a great value. And the Peloton app offers much more than cycling. My son is doing a yoga class with Dennis Morton right now.
@@OutsideChronicles thanks so much will order this week along with the sensor and let you know how it goes.
Thank you so much for the video
Boss USA my pleasure, thanks for your comment and support
Nice video! Thanks for all that information. I'm gonna buy the 1805, 'cause it is finally again in stock on Amazon here in Germany. I also bought the Wahoo cadence sensor and the Wahoo Tickr Fit to track my heart rate and burned calories. Keep on doing and all the best from Berlin!
Awesome, so glad you could finally purchase one. You will love it. I am heading to my basement to do a cycling workout right now.

@@OutsideChronicles I'll be back in a couple of months and let you know!
I added the wahoo speed and cadence sensor to my bike and calibrated it to the digital readout that comes with the Sunny SF-B1423/C and it works pretty well.
did you put the sensor on the fly wheel itself??
Interesting, love to know how you calibrated the speed and where you installed it.
I did put the sensor on the flywheel and using the wahoo app and the speedo that the bike comes with I was able to get it to within one MPH on the wahoo app. Which I consider a win. If your bike doesn't come with the speedo supplied then i could see it being an issue. Here's a video of a calibration method ua-cam.com/video/F6Cv0bL3M98/v-deo.html
Thanks for the video! Laura Linney? Love the handrails...House tour video maybe?
Ha, you are the second person that liked the rails. You would not believe what it looked like before we renovated. That was actually a solid wall. The rebar came out great, as did the rest of the house. Thanks for watching!
Thank you for this video!- I could not figure out how to add my cadence sensor to my sunny.. everyone else had a car I didn't. Pedal worked wonders!
My pleasure, happy peddling. Do you have a favorite Peloton instructor?
@@OutsideChronicles This will be my first day! I haven’t tried it yet.. any suggestions? I want to try the Disney ride lol
@@amberlyn5027 I like Dennis Morton, Leann, Kendall and Alex. My wife loves Cody and Ally.
@@OutsideChronicles thanks!
So I am now several months into my DIY Peloton set up and I just discovered something with regards to the metrics that the peloton digital app shows you at the end of your ride that do not line up with what a real peloton rider would get. For 3 months now I have been riding almost everyday. Finishing a pretty intense 1 hour class, I would collapse on the floor with a great sense of accomplishment.... Look at the metrics... 60% in the level 5 heart rate zone... 20 in the level 5... Max heart rate over 170... (ok.. I'm over 50.. so 170 is not too bad) and to top it off my calories burned.. upper 900s!!! The other day, I was talking to my friend who has a real peloton and she just finished her first 45 minute ride and was exhausted... since I follow her, I was able to look at her metrics for the ride, and was surprised that she only burned about 350 calories.... So then I did a little research.. turns out the Peloton digital app calculates your calories based on your heart rate, and the real peloton uses your kj output to calculate your calories which on average is about kj x 1.2 to get approximate calories. (some have even said that is overstating it and that it should be 1 to 1, but everyone is different) So I began to wonder if there was anyway to capture your output on a DIY peloton and found that you can buy power meter pedals, or pedal cranks that read the amount of power you are using to pedal and can calculate your output... If your willing to spend 400-800 dollars for the equipment...I guess that is one reason to take a second look at the outrageously expensive peloton... Or just stop giving a crap about calories, shut up and ride... will probably just do the latter... sigh
David, well thought out question. I am going to say that the calorie expenditure based on YOUR heart rate is going to be more accurate than the averaged out kj x 1.2. From MD Anderson Cancer Center "A heart rate monitor is one of the best ways to measure your calorie burn. Your heart rate indicates how much effort it takes for YOU to do a certain activity, and that effort determines the calories you burn. If a heart rate monitor indicates your calorie burn, it’s more likely to be accurate than the average activity tracker because it’s taken your specific heart rate in to account." I always go by heart rate. There are some devices that will estimate your VO2 Max which might be a bit more accurate. I always say that the 30min Peloton class might burn 300 calories, but one cookie is 400 calories. Eat right, push yourself on the bike and enjoy life!
Another great video. Very helpful. I have an Apple Watch which should work great, along with the cadence u recommended. I ordered the sunny SF-B1995. It was supposed to be here Saturday but now it says Monday due to the weather. I also ordered the bow flex C6 and I’m going to compare both to see which one I like better.
Cool, thanks for the nice comment. Happy peddling!
Your instructions are very easy to follow. Can you do a setup for zwift please.
I got a because of my night of 5'1. I was too little for others. Sunny Health & Fitness Indoor Cycling Bike with LCD Monitor, 40 lb Chrome Flywheel and 265 lb Max Weight - SF-B1423/C
Could you do another video on the resistance please.... you guys are the best... ♥️
What questions do you have on resistance? What would you like to see?
How to figure out the resistance please. Also do you have a weight holder?
@@MissRenee_X No we do not have a weight holder. I do not even see an accessory on Amazon like that. Sorry.
Also, would you consider a video on teaching us on how to adjust our seat and handle based on height etc? I could really use the guidance, maybe everyone else could as well! Thank you.
Yes, I could do a video like that, good suggestion. This blog post is pretty good on adjusting an indoor bike: www.self.com/story/essential-tips-for-adjusting-your-indoor-bike-seat
@@OutsideChronicles thank you so much!!
Wahoo speed sensor works nearly perfect to the built in computer on the bike. First measure your fly wheel and that can be done by using a tape measure, piece of tape and a yt video that explains the math on how to do it( super easy). Then go into the wahoo app settings and choose the wheel size closest to your fly wheel size. They have many wheel sizes in the library, therefore you should be able to find close to your wheel size of not exact. I have the Jeroto X2 spin bike and my wahoo sensor is within .3 mph to the bikes computer speed reporting.
Great to know, thanks for the explanation. Several people have asked about the speed sensor.
Fantastic video, thank you! I'm about to buy a Sunny bike to use with the Peloton app and was wondering which model you'd recommend...the B1002 or B1805. Apologies if you've answered this already and I've missed it. Thanks again!
Both are good choices. It really comes down to price. If you can find a good deal on the magnetic resistance, I would say go for it. It will be a slightly smoother and quieter ride. But if price is a problem, you will not be disappointed with the B1002. Both will get you are wonderful workout. Personally, I would probably buy the B1002 again if there is a $250 price difference. If the difference was closer to $100, I would probably spring for the magnetic version.
I am so glad I came across this video , thanks so much for sharing . Can you get this model with a smaller fly wheel ? I am just a beginner and I am worried about the wheel being to heavy
For me .
Thanks for watching, the next model down is Sunny Health and Fitness SF-B901: amzn.to/337xrbJ with the 40lbs flywheel. The more expensive version also has a 40lbs flywheel Sunny Health and Fitness SF-B1805 (Magnetic Resistance): amzn.to/38ccHR4
Definitely Jewel
I think so too
Would love to see an update video on the peloton setup
Not much to update. We are using the same setup, oil the pad monthly, and use the bike at least 3x per week. Still going strong!
Thank you for this video its very helpful as I'm considering doing this for my own set up. Do I need to buy the cadence sensor of the bike im buying shows rpm on the monitor?
You won’t need to buy the cadence monitor in that case. It just will not show up in the app. The app graphs your cadence at the end of the workout. It’s neat, but not super helpful. If you wanted to track something, I would track heart rate. Thanks for watching and the comment!
Excellent video. I just subscribed. Regarding the friction pads for resistance, they're fine. The thing you need to wrap your head around is that using this manual resistance is understanding that it is all about the feel. You are adjusting an ANALOG device, not a DIGITAL one. It's like the difference between wrist watches: do you really need to know it's exactly 3:54, or just that it's about 5 minutes to 4:00? And regarding cadence: I love it when the pedal cadence matches the beat of the music - it's a no-brainer. (I'm still going to add a cadence monitor)
Good points! I do not have good enough rhythm, I need a sensor. Thanks for the great comment!
@@OutsideChronicles LOL
I got new pedals for the same bike you have but the bolt doesn't fit on the back (the pedal screw only goes through enough to fit so I can't bolt it on the back) is this how yours is?
Thanks for being so helpful with the video, bike should arrive later today - so excited. I was talking to my Dad and he has a ton of "Marine Grease" (Multi Purpose) - do you think that would be a fine comparable option to 3 in 1? Thank you
Very cool! I am not familiar with marine grease. If it is multipurpose and is a liquid, it should work fine. If it is more like a grease, then I would stay away. Try just a little dab. Happy peddling!
Hello! You mentioned you’ve had the bike for several years (2 years as per what you said). At any point in that time did you encounter any problems with the moving parts of the bike? Specifically the crank and flywheel.
We have had the bike for nearly two years, the only maintenance we have had to do is oil the leather pad. No problems with any of the moving parts thus far. It gets at least 5 rides per week, sometimes more. Thanks for watching!
Thanks for all your very helpful information! I just purchased the Sunny b1002 based on your recommendation, and will be anxiously awaiting it's arrival! I can't go to the YMCA to spin or lift now, because of COVID! I really wish I could track my distance, because that's how I can usually tell if I'm slacking or not😀 I don't think I'm a good fit for the Peleton workouts, because of my age (74)! If you, or anyone knows of good, medium level workouts available on youtube or internet, please comment here! Thanks so much! I 💜 spinning!
Thanks for the kind words. I know there are some workouts, I think Peloton has them too, where it is more of a virtual bike ride rather than a class. Happy peddling!
Here is link for excellent workouts. CTX has a bunch of spinning sessions. It replaced my YMCA spinning classes very well. ua-cam.com/video/BxBhyYbKDws/v-deo.html. Enjoy the ride
@@mytunes08 looks cool, thanks for sharing
I am using a Cateye Padrone on my Sunny stationary bike and wonder if anyone can help me calculate the RPM which they base on TIRE circumference - would you just substitute the flywheel circumference?
Thanks..
Thank you for your great video. Ally love is my top one. Why you don’t advise beginners to take the power classes? Are they more difficult?
The power classes rely on the Peloton bike calculation output power (cadence + resistance). Since the DIY bike is not able to give power, you are kind of lost when the instructor says to set a power output goal. They are no easier or harder.
Looking into buying a sunny bike. Thank you for the review. I did have one question. Is the saddle post such that I can change it out with what is on my "outside" bike? Thank you in advance.
Yes, a standard bike seat will work. Thanks for watching and the comment. Happy peddling.
what kind of sunny health bike are you using for DIY?
Just put together my Sunny B1423 and did 2 beginner peloton classes. Loved it!!!! Know of any hacks to attach hand weights? Searching the internet for a solution or accessory but not seeing anything. Thanks!!
Not really, someone else asked about that. My only thought was either attaching another water bottle holder or maybe constructing something out of PVC to mimic the Peloton holder.
Use Velcro tape for the wahoo sensor
Great video! Now that peloton has taken away the cadence option showing on the screen, what do you suggest? I have the Wahoo cadence sensor.
They did? I just got done with a workout and still had it. Maybe my app did not update? So one option is to use the Wahoo app for the cadence and another screen (ipad, fire stick, etc) for the workout. I will have to check into the cadence.
Looks like maybe it was a mistake or they got a lot of push back: www.pelobuddy.com/peloton-phasing-out-support-for-bluetooth-cadence-sensors-on-peloton-digital-ios/ They removed the removal dates from their support page.
I saw the initial video - how essential would you say the clip on pedals are? Thank you
Well I still do not have clips and I use the bike 3x per week. It would be nice and you can work other muscles because your power stroke and be for the full turn.
Awesome update. I’m really sold on this bike. You can’t be on the peloton leaderboard if you don’t have the peloton bike, right? Or can you if you have the cadence monitor?
That is correct, that is one of the features that does not work. The Peloton leaderboard is based cadence + resistance = power. The app cannot get your power because there is no sensor on the resistance.
I watched another channel and saw this bike after buying a Yosada, Then I came across your video. I returned it immediately and this bike comes in the AM.. Thing is Amazon screwed up my payment return and repurchase and so I called and they solved it in the best possible way. They refunded my purchase on the credit card and Amazon gave me the bike free. Amazing . I get it tomorrow and have your set up coming as well. Im a big guy like yourself and was very very fit going into my 60's after a life time of working out. I had an issue with a RX I felt was doing more harm than good after 14 years on it and a VA moron doctor took me of this medication recklessly and demolished my health going on 2 1/2 years now with 18 months bedridden. At 66 I'm now completely pharma free but it was a horrible journey to get here and I'm way out of shape now for me. This is the beginning of my road to recovery. I'm 6'2" 225 lbs and need to get down to 210. People don't get t until it happens to them. Health is wealth and exercise and good eating habits are the key. I look forward to beginning this and my recovery. Thanks for this honest assessment.
Great story! I am sorry you went through all of that. Out of commission for 18 months would drive me crazy. Taking a week is hard mentally for me. I think you will really enjoy the bike and the Peloton app. There is much more there than cycling. I am sure you know this with your background, but flexibility and weight training are as important or more important than cardio. I highly suggest their yoga workouts. My wife uses their strength stuff, but I have always been a fan of Tony Horton and the P90X series. I think P90X2 is my favorite, it combines balance with strength training (lots of body weight, push-ups/pull-ups). You are always doing something on a med ball, yoga ball, or one foot. I am actually doing P90x3 right now. The most important thing is to keep moving and eat right! You will get there, I can tell you have the motivation. You will have to let me know which instructor you like the best!
@@OutsideChronicles Thanks for the reply. . Anyways coming out the other end now but at 54 I did P90X and got ripped. I'm a believer of that program. I did it again in 2012 and started again in 2018 two weeks before this happened. Two weeks later I was completely disabled by this moron. I tried the P90x 3 I believe those 1/2 hour workouts and didn't like it, too frantic ..The bike will help me with my legs and some stamina. By mid month I'll put the P90X vids in and push play. The bike is my next step back. I eat healthy so this is next. Thanks again Health is literally wealth. I will never take my health for granted again.
@@readymediapros Thanks for sharing! Best of luck in your fitness goals! You will have to let me know how you like the bike and workouts. And of course your favorite Peloton instructor. I am checking your channel out now.

Do you think I can use C3 ceramic dry lube for the flywheel? That’s what I use on my outdoor bike chain
I am not 100% sure. the dry lube is for metal on metal. The 3-in-1 oil saturates the leather pad. I do not think it would hurt to give it a try.
With regards to the sunny bike..you actually have the 1002...the b1805 has the magnetic resistance...I just bought the 1805...

We could do a video like that, it might be boring and gross to see me in a sweaty mess. As for the tablet, we just use an old iPad. And there are tons of good options for watches. My wife uses a Fitbit, I have a Suunto. I use mine more for hiking, but it does track health data. The apple watches are good as are Garmin's. There are so many different options, it depends on what you need. One of the best sites for watch reviews is www.dcrainmaker.com/, he is also on UA-cam.
Thanks boss very Helpful 💯👍🏼
@@adriancampos5157 my pleasure
thanks for the information! My equipment is being delivered in the coming weeks. Question, how can you get distance of your ride to display? I only purchased the candence sensor. Do I need the Speed Sensor to show that?
The speed sensor will give you distance, however, it does not work well with indoor cycles. You would need to calibrate it, many distance sensors built into indoor bikes are calibrated from the factory. You cannot use the Wahoo with indoor bikes.
Just bought the 1002 tonight. Looking forward to trying this out. I’m new to the bikes. Also r u guys from buffalo?
Awesome, you will love it. And yes, we are from Buffalo. Go Bills!
@@OutsideChronicles I am as well! I happened to see some of ur other videos and wasn’t sure. Great tips u guys have. Thanks! And yes. Go Bills!!
Stephanie totally looks like the tennis person and jewel.
Great video!
Any feedback on the chest strap heart rate sensor compared to an Apple Watch? Thank you
The chest HR monitor will always be more accurate and responsive to fluctuations, however, unless you are training for a triathlon or the Olympics, I think the wrist based HR monitors are adequate. I use my Garmin Instinct Solar. It’s also much more convenient.
@@OutsideChronicles thank you & Happy New Year! 🥳
If you're not worried about sweat or protecting the floor is it a must to have an equipment mat?
You bet. My mat is gross after a workout. I'm gross after a workout!
I bought a used sunny bike. I love it. I am a beginner. The seat hurts..... recommendations???
I use this seat cover: Zacro Gel Bike Seat Cover: amzn.to/2wKhnzt
I’m confused, you say you have the 1805 non magnetic resistance. However in the video description it say that your choice was the B1002 and that the 1805 does have magnetic resistance. You may have already done so, but can you clarify on which is which? Thank you for the video. I am glad i saw it because others beside the cadence have installed speed sensors. What you’re saying makes sense as far as the wheel size. I’d be using between Zwift and Peloton. Do you have any experience with the Zwift app? Thank you in advance.
Sorry, I think I had an error in the description (fixed). We have the B1002, the non-magnetic resistance bike. The B1805 is the magnetic resistance option, it is very good, but it is NOT the one we purchased. Right, the speed sensor is designed for a normal outdoor bike. You can get the speed sensor to work, but it is not an out-of-the-box thing, it needs to be calibrated with the indoor bike. I saw ways you can do it, but it was not super important to us. Sorry, I have not used Zwift.
Any tips on preferably a seat replacement or seat cushion for this bike?
I have my gel seat liked in the description. I like it, my wife uses the stock seat. The actual seat can be replaced with any standard bike seat.
Great video! Thank you for such an in-depth breakdown. Can you clarify something for me? At the 5:45 mark when you're explaining the different models/resistance types; you claim the bike in the video is the B1805 and the B1002 has magnetic resistance. This should be flipped, right? B1002 (in video) has the resistance pad and the B1805 has magnetic? Also, I nabbed a Used-Very Good B1002 on Amazon for $260 just now. Think that's a great deal? Thank you again for helping me decide on the bike!
You are correct, I mispoke. The B1002 is what we have with the friction pad (leather pad) resistance. The B1805 is the magnetic resistance model.
@@OutsideChronicles thank you for clarifying and for such quality content!
@@armanafshar6599 Thanks for the kind words!
Would a Fitbit be able to replace the heart rate monitor and cadence sensor?
Only the Heart Rate Monitor, you will still need the Wahoo Cadence Sensor.
Can you advise what kind of oil to use on break pad?
It is called 3-in-1 Oil, can be found at most hardware stores
I'm debating either getting the echelon connect sport or a non-smart spin bike to pair with the peloton app. Do you think there is any benefit in getting the smart bike that you don't get with adding all the extras to a standard bike? I also like the idea that the echelon has it's own classes but I've heard the app isn't very good and costs more so don't know if the app is only benefit if it's worth it.
Hard for me to give a good opinion beyond what I know with this bike and Peloton app. Like a Peloton bike, I am guessing he Echelon will work best in the Echelon ecosystem. What I can say is the Peloton app and instructors are really good. In addition to cycling classes, there is yoga, stretching, meditation, strength, and running that you get as part of your subscription. Not sure if Echelon has other styles of classes. Sorry, but that is the best I can do without trying an Echelon for myself.
@@OutsideChronicles Thanks, I'm gonna go for it. With pretty much universal great reviews doesn't seem like I can go wrong with the echelon. I'll probably use a mix of the echelon and peloton app. Even without a subscription, I'll get the in-depth metrics for the echelon which will be really great and means I won't need any accessories.
Is there a way to add other family members to the same app as a secondary rider? Do you share one username? Or do you pay the app subscription multiple times ($12.99 x 2 users )?
Unfortunately no, it is 1:1 with the app. They would have to pay for their own login if you want separate stats.
WFH really got me gaining a lot of weight. I don't want to risk going to the gym since I have a newborn and people tend to usually not clean after themselves... Would this be a good option for losing weight or should I get an elliptical? I also live on a 2nd floor apartment so that's why I'm considering a bike over elliptical. Also I read Pelaton NO longer allows 3rd party cadence monitors with the digital app" can you confirm this before I buy it? Also did you post a affiliate link I can buy from or referral thanks. Also can I wear any running shoes for this or will I need a special kind? Thanks!
This setup is excellent to get a good cardio workout. Losing weight is not just cardio, it is a balanced diet and weight training. Will you lose weight with just cardio, maybe. Will you lose weight with cardio and a balanced diet, yep. Will you lose weight with weight training, cardio and a balanced diet, definitely. And if I were to compare a bike (and peloton class) to an elliptical, you get a way better workout on the bike.
Idky but i wanna see how many miles I ride while I work out. Can the wahoo censor track that
The cadence sensor only tracks RPM. Wahoo makes a speed sensor that can do milage, but from my research it does not work well with indoor bikes. It is trick to calibrate. If a bike comes with a speed reading, it is calibrated with the sensor ad flywheel at the factory. If that is important, you may want to look at one with a performance tracker like the SF-B1851 amzn.to/3rxGqwT
I put my sunny health bike together and the seat has a slight tilt down and is heavily cushioned at the back...I slide forward and have to push the handle bars to keep myself back. Is this normal? I’m unable to sit upright on the bike at all. I don’t see anyway to adjust the nose up. Help!
No not normal, there are two nuts on either side of the seat. You will need to loosen both of them. There are ridges that hold the seat in place. Once you loosen the nuts, you should be able to adjust to your liking. Then tighten the nuts back up, the ridges should align themselves.
Have you guys ever noticed the cadence sensor cutting out? I use Wahoo Speed and Cadence Sensors for Zwift and it cuts out periodically. It can be pretty frustrating. Great video, thanks!
We had an issue at first. It would work perfectly for my wife and kids, but I struggled to get it connected. I tracked it down to my cheap pair of Bluetooth ear buds. My wife and kids had AirPods and never had an issue. I now have AirPods :-) Check what other Bluetooth devices you have connected.
@@OutsideChronicles Good call, thanks!
What size iPad is that? Also how can I track calories? Thorough the cándense sensor or heart rate monitor?
It is an older ipad, maybe 10". If you want to track calories, you will need to use a heart rate monitor for an accurate number. The app will estimate the calories burned per workout without the HR monitor.
Can I work on the exercise bike without using iFit app ? I am only interest in watching Netflix while exercising.
Can I mount a 32 inch TV on the handle ?
Yea, you can just ride at your own pace. As far as a 32” TV, the bike is strong enough to support it, but you would need to find a mounting bracket that can support it. The one I have for an iPad will not work in this case.
Not sure it it’s been asked besides h go ping through all the comments. But do you all have a gel seat pad on there? If so which one. Thanks for all the great info!! Go Bills! Family is from Angola and Buffalo area!
I use the seat cover, my wife likes the standard seat. The one we have is Zacro Gel Bike Seat Cover: amzn.to/2wKhnzt Allen Diggs just awesome tonight!
I just discovered that Peloton offers scenic rides, and I'm able to access the Most Popular ones under the Features tab on my Iphone (I don't have a tablet at this point), but I was wondering if you have seen a tab for scenic rides in your setup? I also have a Sunny and use the Wahoo cadence sensor, which I bought both of upon watching your first video!
Cool, great find. I did not know scenic rides was part of the app. My iPad has it under "Popular Scenic Rides" I am going to have to give it a try.
@@OutsideChronicles Let me know if you find out how to get to the whole list of them! I can't seem to figure out how to access more than just the few that are listed under "Featured"
Husband is 6'4". Do you think your model - Sunny Health and Fitness SF-B100 - would fit him comfortably?
Yes, I think the SF-B1002 would fit him. I am 6'1" and there are a few more height adjustments above where I ride comfortably. The max weight is 275lbs and the highest inseam setting is 41in. Hope this helps. It is a great bike.
dose the wahoo sensor still connect if you are using the peloton app from your computer?
I just checked, and that feature is not available. I think it is only available on IOS devices now.
Has anyone come across a solution to hang some 3-5 lb hand weights on the Sunny Spin bike so i can start doing the Peloton routines that have a weights section?
Another user had asked that question. I did not see a weight specific solution, but I thought you might be able to rig something using the water bottle holder, maybe adding another one on the other side. I would also try to make something out of PVC. A good challenge and maybe a new video?
Power meter pedals would make the set up more accurate
Do you ever have to replace the leather pad? Or just oiling it is enough? Thank you
So far I have not, I have had it for almost 2 years and a few hundred rides. Someone else recently asked, and if I had to replace it, you can use an old belt or scrape piece of leather.
@@OutsideChronicles okay thank you. Is there an oil you would recommend or anyone is fine? You didn't link the oil you used in the description.
@@melaniedodge4976 It's called 3-in-1 Oil. You should be able to get it at any hardware store.
This is so helpful, thank you! I just bought my Sunny bike SF B1995 and I'm so excited for my "Feloton" .... I was wondering if you know if the Peloton Pedals would fit onto this bike as an upgrade? I was planning to get the Peloton shoes and pedals to use for this bike, please let me know when you get the chance, thank you!
I do not know the thread used in the Peloton pedals. Both the connection and shoe are proprietary and I would expect the thread to also be that way. The Sunny bike takes a standard pedal thread. I would suggest Shimano SPD Pedal: amzn.to/335jsmG. These have a standard SPD connection and you will find a wider variety of SPD shoes. Feloton, love it!
@@OutsideChronicles This is great, thank you so much! And when I search for shoes to purchase, I just need to make sure they are compatible with SPD cleats, correct? I was planning to get the "Venzo MX Bike Bicycle Women's Ladies Cycling Riding Shoes - Compatible with Peloton Shimano SPD & Look ARC Delta" listing on Amazon... they come with Cleats . Sorry for all the questions, I am new to cycling! :) thank you for your help!
@@caseyrau38 Correct! You will find most if not all non-Peloton shoes are SPD. It is pretty standard.
@@OutsideChronicles Awesome, thank you! I believe the pedals you suggested are sold out on Amazon, or not in stock at the moment. Do you have any other alternative suggestions for pedals?
@@caseyrau38 Any of the Shimano SPDs are good and will work.
I read the digital app is a single user membership. How do you have your account setup with your family?
You are correct it is single user. We all just share the account. We all use the same iPad, but we have the app on phones and fire tv.
