Do you hear that?! It's the sound of everyone running out to the garage to check their vacuum port. It always starts with the basics. Thank you for another great video. Merry Christmas and happy New Year!👍
I had this happen to me on a road trip. I thought I had got bad gas. I had a ThunderMax on the bike and it corrected the way it ran in a few miles. I found that cap missing when I returned home. Merry Christmas.
I will check my bikes too, my 2018 road glide runs hot, and so does my 2015 heritage classic, I don’t think my 2003 anniversary models have that but I will check anyway, unbelievable no one ever said nothing about this, thank you Kevin for the knowledge you give us! It is appreciated immensely, happy holidays to you and your family, and all you guys out there, For me it’s sad holidays for me and my wife, we lost our 4 year old son June 17th of this year, But to the rest of you guys out there may all of you have a great holiday
When I was 19 years old my 1970 XLH Sportster blew the oil seal caused from the crankshaft because it couldn’t handle the heatwave in the desert…The Trouble began at Kingman Arizona and gotten even worse after Needles California. long story cut short haha have a blessed Christmas Holiday.
Kevin, as always great video and information. I hope your end of year reflection/birthday is positive. I know your last few years have been a real grind, both professionally and personally. Hang in their my friend.
You are a skilled and logical mechanic/machinist and Harley guru, I like learning from your experience, thanks for sharing Kevin, Merry Christmas to you.
I don't trust myself to come back and wish you a happy birthday on the 31st, so I'll wish you a happy birthday well in advance, along with best wishes for you and your loved ones for a happy, healthy, and prosperous 2025. Thanks for all you share in your videos.
Thanks Kevin for sharing your knowledge and experience. I do like running an oil cooler on my old 67 Electra Glide. Shovels just run hot. Merry Christmas and Happy birthday.
Thank you for this video. Because I am was planning on getting an oil cooler system. I am going to check this little things first. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year’s and a special happy birthday 🎄🎄🎄🎊🎊🎉🎉🎉✝️✝️🛐🛐😎😎
Awesome as always, brother, thank you for always sharing your amazing knowledge.. Wishing you and yours a Blessed and Merry Christmas and Happy & Healthy New Year.! God Bless 🙏🏻❤️ And... Happy Birthday.!! 😎
Good information Kevin.. Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year. I'll be for sure to check that rubber thing. I was in Sturgis and it got so hot in traffic it started running on one cylinder 😡😡😡👍🤠
Oops! I already bought an Ultra Cool oil cooler with a Flo Cool remote oil cooler when I built my 131 build. The bike runs so cool now that the fans have only come on three times in two years. Merry Christmas Kevin!
Thanks Kevin, good info. This is going to take awhile but let me tell you my story. 2019 RK 107. Bought new and have always seemed to have a hot running engine. Stock engine but after warranty was out, replaced exhaust Vance and Hines plus added V&H tunner. I'm a retired auto mechanic since the 70's so I have mechanical knowledge. Now I live in Needles Ca, summer temps are 110 to 120 all summer long and I do ride the bike. I see cylinder head temps reach 330 while climbing a grade, but they do cool down on decent, because of this concern I have installed HD's oil cooler fan, Trask Trans cover. External crankcase breather ( I was worried after viewing piston tops with scope, carbon build up, wrote to you and you said this wasn't uncommon for a Harley) don't have any sumping, never any oil consumption , bike runs great 20,000 hot miles. I've finally convinced myself to quit worrying about it, Oh have an Oil temp sender in the pan, it also rises up with cylinder head temp but nothing high to cause concern. I searched all over the internet, never could bet an answer on what a normal cylinder head temp should be. Thanks I will check for the vacuum leak, but don't seem to have any fuel trim issues that a lean engine might cause. Thanks for all the tips and info I've gotten from your videos. If it blows up told myself I will contact you on a rebuild !!!!
God Bless Mr Baxter. Merry Christmas. You have taught me a lot about Harley's. I've come from a sport/sport touring world but my wife and I are enjoying our trips on the Road Glide. Maybe I will get a chance to shake your hand some day.
Merry Christmas Kevin, you deserve the break for sure. I’m curious if you haven’t seen anyone ask yet but what is your opinion on a fan when the bike is ridden in hotter climates, like Az, Utah, Nevada? Also Happy New Year!
Thank You Brother. The Ole' Jarhead in N.E. Wisconsin and that's very interesting. Who would ever think. I have a 2002 88 with a carb so I realize this does not apply to me but I know many who have newer bikes. I love to learn new tricks of the trade. Awesome and Happy Trails, Riding and Holiday to you and the family! Later
As always, good info for a common problem and easy fix. Look forward to the new year and many more happy days. Merry Christmas, happy birthday and Happy New Year. Best always, Bob
😊👍 Thank you Kevin and a Blessed Christmas to you and your family! I try not to ride above 85° ! Preferably between 50°-80° , 60° she runs best ! Your informative videos are priceless! 🎄🙏 👍 May everyone have a safe Holiday season and remember the reason!
Kelvin I wish you a Merry Christmas Happy new year and I wish you a wonderful blessed and many more Happy Birthdays. Gods blessings to you you and yours we love you all from here in Thomasville Georgia 🙏
Thanks Kevin and Merry Christmas to you and your family. I will def go and check for that cap. Another 1st quality informative video from the master. Again thank you.
Kevin, great content as usual. I have a 2010 street glide. Does the missing vacuum plug apply to my twin cam as well? Thanks in advance and you have a merry Christmas and happy new year as well.
Great information, as always! Thank you Kevin for your many informational videos - I always enjoy them and there is always something to learn. I hope that you have a very Merry Christmas and New Year and HAPPY BIRTHDAY as well!
My 20 ultra is running good, it's my commute and weekend ride," when it's above 30 degrees" thanks for all your common sense help!! Have a blessed and merry CHRISTmas to you kevin and your family!!
100% For me if no snow or ice on the road … and High for the day is at least 35.. I’m riding to work. (I’ll ride in teens and 20s but if I leave bike out in that for 9-10hrs may be a hard start) 2023 FLTRX 124 11:1.. she’s rowdy But built to run. Bc of that sweet commute (little 17mi each way hwy blast and I work outside of Rush hour times so I’m movin).. put 25k mi last year .. sucks that new job is 7min away .. I miss that longer ride Merry Christmas. *I love when I see others that commute year round on their bikes. We got em.. use em! Unless someone’s not about it then don’t .. I can only live my life how I live it 👊
Thanks for your content. The carb version tc88 I got had a HD motor co efi non vented fuel cap fitted, could have been when fueling 525 were installed, maybe the factory part rattled and they supplied themselves with the wrong cap type. The symptoms were all over the place. 7 previous owners who gave up on it. On the upside the inside of the fuel tank is spotless. It only worked ok in hot weather when the tank was warm. Altitude changes and rapid cooling had it run lean. At some point the solution had been to run it so rich it would start from cold without choke. It's staying with me. Terrible image quality short on my channel of it, 1999 FXDL with v&h short shots. Good luck out there, it's only obvious after you find it.
I wish to extend to you a very merry Christmas and all the best for the upcoming year. Thank you again Kevin for your ongoing help in this industry. And looking forward to many more videos. Will try to get out there one day and say hi again.
Merry Christmas Kevin and Happy Birthday have a great end of the year and I do so hope to meet you someday. I will be checking out that 15 cent part tomorrow night after work.
That vacuum cap goes back a ways, I found that the cap on my 03 Buell XB had rotted and was missing. Since I never needed it, I tapped it and locked in a set screw so it couldn't fall off again, fixed some problems with that hack.
Thank you Kevin. Great information as always. This will be added to my list of little things to play attention to. Have been a subscriber for a good while now. I have always appreciated that you are all about getting the correct information to us all and not just about promoting your business for sales of your parts and affiliated products. This video is a prime example of that. Will be a life long subscriber. Simply put, you are the Man. Look forward to all the upcoming videos in 2025. And Happy Birthday to you. See you next year. !
Thanks Kevin! Have a Marry Merry and a Happy happy! I'm sure we all can agree, we look forward to next year and your next videos! Don't forget to add, that HD engines are nearly double in size, from those days in the 70s or older. (Bigger as in larger heads, larger pistons and cylinders and the parts that connect to them). And longer strokes in the power production cycle. I had a 88TC. But even stock engines now, are nearly double that. And those older engines, like Shovels, Pans, Knuckles, and Flatheads, were smaller than that 88TC. Lower in cubic inches, lower compression numbers and shorter cycle strokes. Carbs instead of injection, and mechanical ignition, not computer controlled...
In 2013, I replaced the ambient temperature gauge on my Ultra with an oil temperature gauge. It doesn't keep it any cooler, but it lets me monitor oil pressure and temperature at a glance.
Living the dream !! Your just a smidge smarter then the rest Kevin LOL.. great video, good stuff well explained... as always ! Merry Christmas Happy New year to you and yours !!
Have a great Christmas and thanks for all the info. I'm jealous of you temperature there, my Christmas will be in the low 40s, centigrade that is and also have a HAPPY BIRTHDAY.
It happened on my 2017 Dyna S. I heard a back fire through the intake and pop off that rubber cap! You can hear the vacuum leak and the bike doesn’t idle too good. Happy Holidays!
Thanks Kevin!!!!!!!!! Great Video and appreciate you consecration to let us know about this inexpensive fix. Have a great holiday to you and the family, and all the subscribers. Carry On.

Do you hear that?! It's the sound of everyone running out to the garage to check their vacuum port. It always starts with the basics. Thank you for another great video. Merry Christmas and happy New Year!👍
It's -25°C where I am right now, and I'm considering going out to check mine right now 😂
Amen
I had this happen to me on a road trip. I thought I had got bad gas. I had a ThunderMax on the bike and it corrected the way it ran in a few miles. I found that cap missing when I returned home. Merry Christmas.
