2012 was a sad year, not only did we lose Soul Train Master Conductor Don Cornelius and Bandstand KING Dick Clark who pave the way for the music industry, but we also lost 60 Minute Man Mike Wallace, Legendary Comedienne Phyllis Diller, Pop Music Queen Whitney Houston, Disco Queen Donna Summer, Family Feud King Richard Dawson, Legendary TV & Film Star Ernest Borgnine, TV Legend Andy Griffith, Sherman Hemsley who is now movin' on up to the deluxe apartment in the sky, Larry Hagman who is now striking it rich upstairs and Jack Klugman of The Odd Couple & Quincy, M.E. Fame Thank You All So Very Much for what you've done not only in the Entertainment Industry, but more importantly, makin' an impact in the world of pop culture God Bless You All So Much and God Bless You Mr. Clark for not only makin' American Bandstand an AWESOME Show, but for also, makin' the dancers and the music guests the REAL stars of the show R.I.P. Mr. Clark and until we see ya again So Long Friend
My favorite of Dick Clark's All Star Band shows. I liked how each performer was announced by Dick Clark at the start and a cameo display of their playing performance to Bill Haley's "Rock Around the Clock". You tube only contains two of these All Star Band shows. I would wait to watch these specials on T.V. How come there aren't more of these recordings on You tube? I'm sure there were other recorded specials.
Yes indeed, when the 40th and 50th Anniversary Specials came out, they added female musicians and vocalists and IMO, I liked those American Bandstand All Star Bands better when they had Male & Female
This would be from American Bandstand's 30th Anniversary. What a lineup & it was nice to see country represented well here.Mind you, this was during the era of Urban Cowboy.Johnny Rivers was even slected in 1992 & 2002 for the 40th & 50th Anniversary All Star Bands, respectively.
Nigel is by far THE MOST UNDERATED DRUMMER EVER!!! Yes his solo album tanked badly, but he's an awsome talent. Just listen to his work on 17/11/70 the studio concert with EJ and Dee Murray on bass, there has got to be video of that somewhere. Nigel kicks skins ass!!
I remember seeing this in 1981. I've wanted to see it since then to confirm what I though I saw. Mick Fleetwood seems to get caught "out of it" for his solo.
roll over Beethoven was the superband number for the 25th anniversary special rock around the clock is on the 30th anniversary special 33 and a third was Elvis Presley blue suide shoes the 40th anniversary special I will guess is hey bo diddley and the 50th anniversary special had little richard sing good golly miss Molly and here you knocking but you can't come in
You are absolutely correct about all of them They were all great, but I would have to say that my favorites would have to be Chuck Berry, Elvis, Bo Diddley and Little Richard I wish someone would put on YT, the 40th Anniversary Show with the late great Bo Diddley which IMO, the 40th Anniversary Special was very underrated
What fun! ...except for the sound guy. What a nightmare -- that many dudes...that many egos...and having to match it all up to a TV track from the 50s. BIG respect. BTW...were there no female musicians in 1981??
Well after seeing this, I thought it was pretty good, but IMO, I like the All Star Bands from the 40th and 50th Anniversary Shows better as they had both Male & Female Musicians and Vocalists, but other than that, it's better than today's Pop & Country Music which sounds crappy
This video is good, but it's missing someone. But who? Simple ... Women are missing! And in 1981, there's no excuse for that. There were a few female musical pioneers from the 50's, but during the 60's & 70's the world was seeing & hearing more & more women making their mark in the world of rock 'roll. But for some reason, shows & similar specials like this chose to ignore the amazing female talent that existed and was growing more & more in the world of rock & roll! For example ~ The Runaways (Joan Jett & Lita Ford on electric guitar, Sandy West on drums), had a number of different members & broke up in 1979, Suzi Quatro (1964 - bass guitar & keyboards) Nancy Wilson of Heart (1967 - bad ass guitar player), Grace Slick (1964 - piano/keyboard), Chrissy Hynde of The Pretenders (1975 - guitar), Nina Simone (1954 - jazz piano/keyboard), Carole King (1958 - piano), Joni Mitchell (1964 - piano/6 & 12 string guitar), Joan Jett solo career (1975 - guitar), Lita Ford solo career (1975 - guitar), Sandy West (1973 - drums) Karen Carpenter (1965 - drums) ... and the list goes on! Who knows why there were no women chosen to participate. Ladies I've listed includes women from the 50's, 60's & 70's and this show was filmed in early 1981 so they had plenty of females musicians they could've invited. But, I guess back then it was truly a "mans world". I started playing guitar in the 60's when I was a teenager and back then it was somewhat rare to see girls playing guitar. Women, more often than not, played piano & organ, but you rarely saw women playing guitar & drums. However, they existed & thrived as evidenced by the great list of women mentioned above.
Thank you for posting this one. I recorded it on VHS back in the day.

It's all guys. Wow. Times have changed.

You and me both
If you don't wanna get up and dance to that you are either in a coma or just plain dead.
I can't stand still for sure. I must have watched this a thousand times over the years!
omg

you can say that again!
I remember seeing this as a kid but I swear Teena Marie was part of this...
Obviously not on this one since
at the beginning of the introductions
Dick Clark refers to the overall group
as "gentlemen", meaning no women.
Teena Marie was in the band for American Bandstand's 33 1/3 anniversary.

I feel sorry for the guy doing the sound and mixing.
