Always from the start , Nigel has always been on my radar, I practically learned to play drums by listening and playing along to DONT SHOOT ME, GOODBYE YELLOW BRICK ROAD, CAPTAIN FANTASTIC , albums.....Nigel has always been one of my favorite...
Nigel will never know his impact on me going all the way back to 1972. I learned his drum parts note by note. I love his voice just as much. Blessings on you Nigel.
Nigel is and always will be the best never can be replaced nobody else has his own sound that's how you know when it's Nigel ... Thanks Nigel Love you forever keep on going you have the willpower and it's in your blood you can't never get away from it so go for it and God bless you and your family 🙏🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟💕👍
Thanks for liking my comment. I will forever feel this way and always have been an influence on my own drumming thanks to you Nigel. And another thing HAPPY 34 th ANNIVERSARY OF YOUR WEDDING DAY 1989 💕🍀🤞💐💐💐 AND MANY MORE YEARS
Nigel was my first drum hero. Madman Across the water was the first LP I bought when I was 11 years old and didnt have a record player yet. He is a staple of Elton's for a reason. He's like Charlie Watts when it comes to playing sensibility. Not flashy of chop driven . just smooth, musically appropriate pulse that warms the soul and fits in with what the piano man does. MAGIC!
Big ups to Nigel. Do people realized he was the drummer on the best albums during the '70s? The epic early Elton John records that still hold up today as the most well-crafted and listenable records of all time. Elton had 7 No 1 albums, not songs, albums in 4 years time, including a double album. Who will ever do that again? No one, probably. I really liked Nigel on "Someone saved my Life Tonight" and "Saturday Night's Alright.." and 'Lucy in the Sky..."
Something subtle like 'Daniel'...using his hi-hat as a sort of pseudo crash cymbal. Nigel had technique, patience, range and ingenuity. Perfect compliment to Sir Elton, Dayey and Dee. R.I.P. Dee Murray...
always loved the sound of Nigel's drumming. Especially on the 'Don't Shoot Me, I'm the Piano Man' album where the snare almost sounds like he's hitting wood. or knocking on a door.
I started playing drums in 1970 and Nigel was my first inspiration. He has never been flashy but is always rock solid with impeccable technique. Nigel's fills are perfect for the music, without drawing attention to himself and he has arguably the best right foot in the business. His off beat kickdrum work is amazing. Unlike so many other drummers, even though his many, many years of fame he is still soft spoken and humble, in addition to being a great drummer he is also a great person. I went to school in Raleigh NC with both Maria and Lisa Gombatz. Lisa of course married Nigel and Maria married Dee.
LEGEND...THATS ALL.....nice interview my friend. Also, love your sportsmanship with all your sponsers....I am quite sure they love your approach as they should! Again, thanks so much for our conversation back in Nashville many years ago...you were so much more than kind! Will never forget and will hold dearly.
The best drummer in the world i realized it on high flying bird all and someone save my life tonight. The parr where he cones in on the Border song.is just awesom....
É OBRIGATÓRIO para todo baterista que esteja começando seus estudos, ouvir NIGEL OLSSON. Principalmente, Rocket Man, Daniel, Pinball Wizzard e Don't Let the Sun go down on me. São registros clássicos de como se deve tocar para a musica. Talvez ele não lembre, mas aqui no Brasil ele foi muito aplaudido principalmente pelo reconhecimento de seu talento.
Drummers get nervous before shows simply because they know THEY cannot make mistakes....other band members can, singers can even forget the words...but if the drummer makes the slightest mistake...it is HEARD. As a drummer, I empathise with Nigel's nerves.
very true...and Mark Kelly so correct....jeeez he just played to the song and nothing else....great grooves, pocket, fills and even better cymbal and tom tones.....not sure it could ever be duplicated....it as if EJ wrote some songs on the drums...
in this video..during the sound check i see the keyboard player..he died...the bass player..he killed himself...and bob halley who was eltons assistant for 30 years give and take a few and since this video was filmed elton fired bob and sued him for theft....so life is up and down for many...most...but davey johnstone and nigel are still with eltons band
for me concentratrion turns into the groove and then I am in flow...flow is like an autopilot.. I also have the veneers going front to back on a custom Gretsch ..and I use a Yamaha Hip Gig set, a smaller platform for small rooms ie...we volunteer a trio for Senior Citizen homes..Nigel great drummer..I wrote out a chart as he played Dont Let The Sun Go Down on Me....and after lots of practice 3 students will play at same time

Humble and thoughtful guy to give shout outs by name to the people behind the scenes.

And I wish Nigel congratulations 👏🎉 on making history with everyone else in the band and sir Elton the fan's know who they love,💕👍

Nice to hear after all these years he still cares about what he's doing and hasn't become jaded like so many. Still an inspiration!
He is paid very well by EJ
@@phil4977 And he's twice the man EJ is too.
First time I've seen this. I could listen to Nigel talk all day. He's such a great guy.

He was masterful on the song "Curtains" from Captain Fantastic. The drums just come in and the most intriguing time.
Yellow Brick Road.
Something subtle like 'Daniel'...using his hi-hat as a sort of pseudo crash cymbal. Nigel had technique, patience, range and ingenuity. Perfect compliment to Sir Elton, Dayey and Dee.
R.I.P. Dee Murray...
He’s also got an awesome voice
Roger Pope was also a superb drummer along with other drummers on the very early albums such as Barry Morgan and Terry Cox
Love this guy. A true talent. It's always cracked me up that his name, not Elton's, has been on his drum heads from the start.
If you look at some of Elton's earliest performances, Nigel's name isn't on the kick drum head quite yet!
He seems like a real..nice...down to Earth guy....Never heard him talk before!
Love his soft slight accent.... ❤❤
These are the interviews ~~ details from each player ~~ that are so intriguing.
'Only One Woman' has been my favorite song for decades......
I've always said that anyone who produces music should study Nigel's drum sound and production. Many have agreed. Truly a Master!
It's great to listen to him talk and describe everything. Thanks!
Wouldn't be The Elton John band without him
always loved the sound of Nigel's drumming. Especially on the 'Don't Shoot Me, I'm the Piano Man' album where the snare almost sounds like he's hitting wood. or knocking on a door.
Agreed. Hes a quiet gentle man

An awesome drummer and a great voice 👍
Very interesting, and he is such a nice man.Wish he was more in the limelight. Wonderful contributor to the band .
Versátil y virtuoso.
Gracias por sonar tan bien.

One of the kindest people I've ever met. #schatjesvanpatatjes
Nigel is the best drummer Elton has ever had.
Beautiful man and talent.
I had a crush on you when I was a teenager you were then and still are awesome bless you and your family!
He was my teenage crush as well. The early 70s were awesome.

I love you Nigel! You made the Yellow Brick Road with Elton concert in Miami the best!
Great guy, & miss him❤️
PAiSTe! ― the best sounding! ✨ Love you, Nigel. 🥁🎤💛💙
Need to here more from the band members it's great insight.
he's the greatest !!
Beautiful hands
I love you Nigel
Awesome
True professional

During a show at Elton's Las Vegas residency Nigel played Philly Freedom too slow twice and Elton walked off stage.
@@jaggass temper temper Elton! Perhaps should be tempo, tempo....
Nigel feliz cumpleaños 🎂!!!!
Hes just so beautiful
When ej changed the band in the late '70's it was the end of his best music.
What's the second song here, playing in the background? Love the piano there
"And the house fell down"
Rocket Man is the essence of drumming for Elton. It's such a perfect piece of drumming history. If you disagree, you don't know drums.
Someone Saved My Life was another...I don't think any other drummer could have created that kind of pocket.
+Roy Rogers I always thought Nigel was one of the best drummers. Never showed off, just played perfectly.

Bassman968 I know what you are talk about. The ending before the chorus. Gives me goosebumps.
Curtains is my favorite song for Nigel’s Drumming.
What song is playing in the background, the first one?
Many drummers from the 1970's have hearing problems today.
+TELEVISIONARCHIVES Many people of all kinds from the 70s who played or listened to rock have hearing problems.
Sorry?
He always wore headphones which probably helped him
What is wrong with the chrome Slingerland kit?
❤️❤️

What drum glove did he endorse by?
Footjoy
He did basically say that “this one goes to 11”…

He's very 'Spinal Tap'.
please! Help! The name of the song in the second half of the movie
+gret9569 The name of that song is "And The House Fell Down" It's on the 2005 album "The Captain And The Kid" That's a cool song.
+ldchappell1 Спасибо!

The House Fell Down from The Captain and the Kid.
I used to think Nigel Olsson was a Native American with a Scandinavian name
I was yust thinking what are his roots 😊 such a gentle nice man
Talented and handome man !! He has aged so well (not like Elton 😉)
pynx I'm not here to start a fight or an argument with you; but I think Elton aged just as well as Nigel!
