The Woolly Worm - classic trout fly tying

- Underwater action and full Tying SBS on one of the worlds most popular flies. The Woolly Worm is not a Woolly Bugger without the tail. The reverse tied hackle makes it a totally different bug, and make it super useful when you fish upstream or fish dead drift. It is almost completely weedless.

Thank you too for the feedback. Cheers, Michael :0)
Love this tying cheers
Thanks a lot for your feedback :0)
:oD big smile when I saw this! It's probably the first fly I tied on a vise with instruction by a president of our local Trout Unlimited chapter at one of our sportmans shows. I wasn't fly fishing yet but I fished it with my spinning outfit. Two nice perch were cruising the shoreline and I lobbed it out in front of them. They swam to it, sucked it in and spit it out in a micro second. No way I could set the hook but it made me realize how many fish I'd missed in the past on a slack line. Thanks for posting this, I'm going to read the blog now.
BTW, Peter Frampton was on the news today. He's coming here in July on his Farewell Tour. Jason Bonham's band also. I guess Frampton was diagnosed with some muscle disease so he's been pumping out lots of tracks and making this tour his last before he's unable to play. He sounds freaking awesome too! I guess there's some experimental drugs that may slow down or even cure the disease. If it happens he laughed and said he'll do a miracle tour after. He has a very positive attitude. Cheers buddy :o)
Thanks Joe, I have many equally great experiences with this fly - and used it a lot, when I was new to the fly fishing game. Cool that Peter Frampton is visiting your area. He is a great rock guitarist, and can do crazy things with a guitar and a talkbox effect. I don't know much about Jason Bonham, but if he is anything like his old man... it will get groovy ;0) Have a nice weekend my friend. All the best, Michael :0)
Hi Joe, just found out, that I had missed a message from you on my blog. Check out my answer on michaeljensens.com/angling/will-the-real-woolly-worm-please-stand-up/
SUPER LYKE 👍 👍 👍 👍 👍 👍 👍 👍 👍 👍
Thanks a lot. Tight lines, Michael :0)
Good work👍
Thanks a lot :0)
Very nice, Michael! We should go fishing these together in the Rena sometime :-)
Thanks Tore, sure would like to do that :0)
Good job on an old standard Michael. BTW well explained on the videos now that you're talking tho I have to admit I like your taste in music almost as much as your flies and kind of miss the music :-)
Thanks a lot for your response. Guess I will be using both methods for a while - and evaluate more along the way. Glad you like my choice of music as well. Being a blues/rock guitar slinger myself - I find that most of that stuff goes well with fly tying and fly fishing. Tight lines, Michael :0)
Cool Michael. Old School alright! Chenille and wool wow. Will have to dig these back out to tie a few. This was probably one of the first flies I learnt to tie in the early 90's. Really digging your trout classics series. I've even dug out an old original Wheatley box to fill up again. Any chance you will be tying an old school Grey Ghost in future? Love that fly.. Cheers
Thanks a lot. Good to hear that my videos inspire you to backtrack. At the moment I just enjoy tying with real furs, feathers, chenilles and stuff. A Wheatley box is a thing of beauty - and it is a perfect match for these flies :0) Uhm... Grey Ghost, that is not impossible someday. I love those old streamers and I find Gray Ghost to be one of the most beautiful Carrie Stevens flies. Will keep it in mind. Tight lines, Michael :0)

is there are reason why you're not using a wire to counter-rib the hackle? I love the colour combination! will tye this pattern soon :)
Thanks a lot, Fly Rider. Yes there are reasons why I dont use rib on this fly. First reason is, that I've fished Woolly Worms for trout for decades, and to the best of my recollection I cant remember many of those unravel due to a broken hackle. Might be because I use these long cock hackles, that has some really strong steams. Second: I feel it would mess up the precise segmentation of the body, especially on light patterns, like this Yellow/Grizzly version. That being said: A rib will always make the fly stronger, so it's just my personal preference. On a dark bodied version it wouldn't hurt ;0) Tight lines, Michael :0)
@@MichaelJensensAngling thank you Michael! I was just wondering. In my opinion it's a bit stupid to copy a master fly tier without understanding WHY he/she ties in a certain way. :)
@@FlyRiderFishing Thanks buddy, but I am just a fly tier like you and everyone else - that just happens to have a camera - so don't take my advice for anything more, than just my personal opinion ;0) Cheers Michael
@@MichaelJensensAngling haha, your flies look way better than mine :) Thank you for making this content 👍👍👍
@Fly Rider And thank you, Buddy :0)
