Yes, any grass (especially annual rotational crops) are susceptible to ergot. Weather conditions and crop rotations are mainly responsible. Although I have been around proso millet for many decades, I have never observed ergot in proso fields or grain. Producing proso in semi-arid areas reduces ergot potential. Increasing rotations between grass crops (proso, wheat, oats, barley, corn, sorghum, etc.) with intermixed broadleaf crops (soybeans, field peas, sunflowers, canola, etc.) should decrease potential of ergot in proso millet or other grains.
