Vanos also can fail mechanically that piston inside VANOS allow oil to go from one hole to other hole is scratched and doesn’t make good seal which make the vanos advance timing at idle and car will shake and misfire. And scan tool cannot detect that even though vanos opens and close just fine

When you did the exhaust side test my car sounds like that on start up but if I press the gas for a few sec it goes back to normal could it be the vanos ?
Can't you just disconnect the vanos just the same as this? Like disconnect the plug. It should turn off? I've been having fuel cut off and I've done a engine overhaul on the car besides head gasket cus idk how. But injectors, fuel pump, vacuum hoses, radiator hoses and radiator, valve cover gasket, sparks plugs multiple times and ignition coils all of them and ignition coil wire harness. All that, including the disa, upper and lower intake boots and so on... nothing has changed... I'm trying to figure out the issue with the misfire with fuel cut off... can bad o2 sensors cause that? Cus I do have some bad ones...
Hi, I have a 2011 F11 523i with the N53 3.0l engine. Should this test be the same on that engine. I have enabled the test via a Snap-On scanner and it makes no difference BUT the car seems to run fine. That said it's done 160,000 miles and I bought it at 145,000 so it could have been down on power from when I bought it. There are no codes related to the VANOS, tickover is smooth. I have repaired the CCV valve on the rocker cover and it's running a Bimmerprofs NOX sensor. MPG us c25, which I think is a little low.

Why is mine always running at 68%? Manuals says normal is 50% during idle but mine never achieves this, could be possibly due to dirty VANOS & just needs an oil change?
Hello , thank you so much for your videos , i have a problem with my n45 double Vanos system which don't work at all , i tested them using 12volts they work , but they don't work on the car , i disconnected the cables of the solenoids , nothing changed , i checked the wires they drive electricity .. what could be the problem ??

Can't you just disconnected it from the connector? And of it turns off that means it's good but if it stays on that means it's bad.

I have the same tool, b when I activate either VANOS Solenoids, the tool said something like “ECU_REJECTED”

probably plugged VANOS, change them. They may work mechanically but if the small filters are plugged, then no oil is being directed like it should.
I overheated my engine now it won’t start can u advise me as what I might need to do to fix this

Misfires can become more common if vanos fails

I’m not 100% sure, but if you activate the VANOS inlet while the engine is running and the engine doesn’t stall, then your VANOS isn’t working.

U need a very sophisticated tool for that. It's called a brain and it has to have eyeball connected to it.

Easy would be more like, needing a screwdriver and wrench. Not needing to buy $100+ tool first. Might as well take it to a shop
