DIY Traditional Willow Crab Pot Build

I have recently started to make crab pots in the traditional way out of sustainable willow. I am interested to see how well they will catch and I am going to try using these crab traps around the shore of Guernsey. Hopefully this will help you to make your own. This type of pot is better for spider crab and brown edible crab but you can also catch lobster and crayfish although this is unlikely from the shore.
I also show you how to make your own crab pot making stand to make the process easier.

Good effort ,try and close the gaps between the uprights by adding more withies, basically hand width apart , on devon pots it's about 64 uprights, this way the smaller lobbies wont get out

Many thanks. I realised this when I saw one of the old boys here make decent pots and put mine to shame. I’m going to make another batch in the new year and try to close the gaps and make them neater. Thanks for watching

Thanks Danny, I’ll send you a message on Instagram, I’m not sure my pots would withstand being out on rough ground in tide, being winched up but I’m sure we can trial it out. I’m intending on trying them off the shore soon so I’ll probably get a good feel as to how robust they will be. I’ll be in touch
