Further to this point made about timber versus plastic constructed baits.
A useful experiment to conduct is take something as mundane as a piece used to make a stair or handrail balustrade (often a 41 by 41 by 900 mm standard dimension, or equivalent in inches). Compare the pine version (lighter), to the white oak version (a lot denser, more mass).
You end up with one, a pound plus in mass. The heaviest is over two and a half pounds mass quantity. Obviously one doesn't utilize 'all' of this three feet of material to create lures.
Here is the argument, relative to weight and material. One can have smaller versions of the same lure with one's hardwoods. And obtain a lure in same style of longer dimension using the lighter weight pine wood. The point being in gear tackle angling there is a problem, where it's hard to change size of lure (when one understands it could be time to change up or down in size).
What typically happens is that different sized synthetic material baits do get attached to fishing rods of different power or action. And with different line strengths and diameter. The boat deck becoming cluttered with gear and equipment that all has to be managed or untangled often.
The point of the stair balustrade mass example is merely to illustrate that natural materials can become more advantageous in ways to un-complicate 'the process'. Where if one develops simple designs that are easily re-produced, to create the same lure in different sizes, but weight the same amount. Meaning that each time you go to throw your lure (whilst changing to different sizes), you are not having to change your rhythm, line diameters, rod action etc. Each time you change size of lure, it's mass can be standardized across different lure sizes.
