Mal recovers very fast from learning that he "infected her mind", because it is actually cobb telling it to himself, he already had years to mull over it. And mal instantly saying "but you can make amends" is because cobb has been thinking about making amends for many years too and already has an idea of how to do it, by staying there. A character had said mal was very nice irl, but in his dreams she is always ruining missions and getting angry, screaming, etc. That isn't who mal is. That's just cobb being angry at himself and sabotaging his own self because of the guilt, and the sabotaging and anger comes in the form of "mal"
Wow. Great character analysis
Uff. Thank you really, that helps me to understand her character much better!
Omg thank you for this!!❤️
Mal is his shadow behavior
Exacto
when you realize this is just a projection of Cobb's wife, he's actually reasoning with himself on his loss
That makes so much sense
She is never lost and never attached to him

"But I never knew that that idea would grow in her mind like a cancer, that even after she woke, that even when you came back to reality, that you'd continue believe your world wasn't real. That death was the only escape."
Nolan's writing and directing, Zimmer's music, and DiCaprio's acting is what breaks me in this particular part of this scene. Masterful execution 😭🙌
Couldn’t agree more 🙌🏼🙌🏼🙌🏼
Right ? Breathtaking
😢basically my life after I found out reality and illusion were synonyms
Yeah, Mal was completely gone as soon as they woke up.
But I never knew that that idea would grow in her mind like a cancer, that even after she woke, that even when you came back to reality, that you'd continue belive your world wasn't real. that death was the only escape.
Having suffered from schizophrenia revolving around existential thoughts, I could actually relate to this part of the movie. Having an "idea" planted at the back if your head that everything is just fake and there is a different reality. It's really haunting.
I don't believe I suffer from any clinical psychological ailment, but I do think it's unlikely that our reality is as presented - with quantum computing coming in the coming centuries, the power to run simulations as complex as our reality becomes trivial. The idea that we are in the "base" reality, would be... unlikely, to put it mildly. But this doesn't really change anything to how I live my existence? What does it matter, the nature of our existence? Why does this particular thought break people?
and it applies to so many other things as well, there can be any idea that can be harmful to oneself if it grows out of control, becoming an obsession
I can see how this movie could be very triggering for ppl with depersonalization or schizophrenia,, I kinda know what that feels like. Nothing feels real, what you see, your perception of time, emotions, the relationships,, you want them to feel so REAL to you like you feel alive but it just doesnt, and the only way out seems like death,, scary stuff
The acting in these scene was well executed, especially with Leo!!!!
I always loved the idea of this visual. The top totem keeps spinning in a dream, so after Cobb sets it off in the recesses of Mal's mind, it convinces her of the dream. Even after awakening to the real world, the top keeps spinning deep in her mind without stopping, and she meets her tragic end.
Crazy movie, I love it.
Leo acts this scene incredibly well, and you can tell that he blames himself for what happened to Mal, and still loves her regardless. 💔😢
Dream sharing presented as almost like a drug, he got his wife hooked and when he was ready to quit she wasn't- he carried that guilt throughout the movie and the final scene is him getting past that
Loving different perspectives ❤
One of the best plot twists in recent years.
What is it?
@@darkphoenix6742 The twist that he Inceptioned Mal and technically killed her.
It works so well since it's heavily implied
This film still earns the praise it deserves, but I still think Mal is an underrated villain. Cobb’s image of her in his memories plagues him, and her leaving the darker recesses of his brain add such a unique conflict. Here’s an antagonist who isn’t even a physical being, but is literally a memory! Brilliant storytelling…
Its always best to be direct and honest with the people you love.. let her know you found that hideout spot.
This movie is an epitome of story telling
it shows how cob still suffering from the loss of his wife
You know this movie is ahead of its time when UA-cam says its a fantasy released in 2020
This scene symbolizes the very thing about the mind...an idea.
How it can easily be spreaded throughout the entire mind and every single neuron and brain cell and make both the subconscious and the conscious effect a person. The idea can make you do things that define you and make you do things either for good or for destruction. And somtimes the idea can effect everyone around you.
Weapons, Technology, Literature, Religions, Science would've ever existed without the one thing that is an effective parasite and more powerful than any disease or bomb...is an idea
You've taken on a world view that your particular world view is the only one that's true, and all of the other ones are misguided, or false, or an illusion in some capacity. Just like those Qanon misfits and Christian Nationalist terrorists
I love how he could have just poisoned their evening wine but instead he just had to perform a near impossible task with a multitude of unknown consequences 😅
In an earlier scene, Ariadne told Cobb that he was not responsible for the thought that destroyed his wife, but he was actually responsible
"Inception on my wife" is really the best title you could think of?
Lmao
I read it in borats voice

So if he knew their world wasn't real while she didn't, the logical thing to do would be to just 'delete' her to wake her up. Of course, he couldn't foresee the residual doubt his implantation would leave.
They were in the dream world for years, but only a couple of hours had passed in real time.
I don't think so ..As per calculation, they both were sleeping for 4 years to have been dreaming for 50 years, which is kinda insane!
@@divine1562If I remember correctly, they were in a dream inside of a dream
@@divine1562 No they basically went so deep into their minds that a couple of hours would be decades in their heads.
this scene killed me

I was pretty meh about most of this movie, but this scene is absolutely heartbreaking. Suddenly it all makes sense, the suffocating guilt, the inability to move on.

That thumbnail of Mal with her head on the rail looks like she's saying "eeeeh"
She ate this up.
Rage and serenity
That thumbnail makes it look like a horror movie :)
Existential dread and reality are horrifying in their own ways.
So ive been going over this. Does anyone else realise the spinner is Mals totem, not cobs. After her death he has two totems in every dream. He cant acknowledge his own. (HIS WEDDING RING.) He carries the burden of his guilt as the reminder of what's real, and what isnt.
This makes the shock end so much better. He can finally focus on his totem in the end. He doesn't need the spinner to know he's home. He finally moved on, mentally and literally.
Im the only person i didnt see the whole movie , i must watch it now after 12 years later 😀
I didn't watch it neither but I wanna watch it now.
Have you watched it yet? It's a real mind bender!

I have a doubt ! Cob mentioned to Mal that they did grow old together in the dream, but when they lay on the track to die, they were still young. How is that possible 😅😅 Any answers?
They show the scene again later in the movie but this time they are actually old together.
My guess on that is that the part where they grow old together is a dream within a dream. Cobb said he knew how to do the inception because of this. And when they grew old in that, they came back to their original dream in which they were killed by a train to finally wake them up. I would like to assume that Cobb designed both of the dreams similarly especially based on the looks, because he could have implanted the idea by spinning Mal's totem.
HOW YOU COULD INCEPTION YOUR OWN WIFE
Anybody got an answer to why his inception wasnt to make mal believe she was in a dream instead of just that she needed to wake up? I mean if he could make the top spin, why couldn't he just remove the top?? I'm sure someone has an answer.
It was because she loved living in the dream world with just Cobb and herself, so just telling her to wake up wasn’t enough. Cobb had no other choice but to perform inception on her by giving her that extra push by telling her she that it’s all a dream.
I guess the question is whether removing the top would have done anything at all. The top spinning was the evidence that the world was a dream but the absence of the top doesn't have inherent meaning.
Merci citronnn

one question... when cobb's wife knew that they are not in reality... why did she chose to forget?? she could die and go back to reality at that point!
Mal was so in love with Cobb that she wanted to spend the rest of her conscious life with him. She didn't want to go back to reality.
I think she began to suffer knowing they couldn’t get back so she chose to ignore the fact they were dreaming. But Cobb couldn’t forget so he planted the idea back into her head that what she thought reality was actually a dream
