Lol! Just do what I did with my 2500, throw everything in the trailer lol! Even if I put my family in the fifth wheel, I still was over by a considerable amount. Do you use a WDH btw? Thanks 👍🏾

Enjoyed the video JB. As for tightening your lug nuts I wouldn't advise standing on your 4 way lug wrench. It could over torque your lug nuts. I have a torque wrench and check my lug nuts on my dump trailer every time I use it.
Thanks! I don’t put a lot of pressure when I step on it but I let someone borrow my tools and no longer know who has my tq wrench lol!
Heavier than expected, gives some perspective to the half ton tests you did with 1000 lbs of tongue weight.
I plan on going back and using the spread sheet for each truck I tested so far
My step father also swears by using dielectic grease in the trailer connector (he does a lot of towing).
Yup, I had a bad connection on some headlights and when I cleaned off rust and added dielectric, never happened again 👍🏾
It did look like you have after market tires. They didn't look OEM and that can also take away from your payload. You have a nice truck but, I'm with you about possibly getting a dually. I would love to have a Ram dually. Some day brother, some day.
I do have aftermarket tires and they are probably 8-10 pounds heavier per tire...
If RAM makes there dually look like Fords, I will be ready to trade, if they don’t, I may have to get a Ford dually 😅!

Good video. It’s cool to know what it weighs now. I wish I had some scales close to me to find mine out.
I’d say it’s definitely a stretch for 1/2 ton trucks though like your testing has found. And honestly if you go by GVWRs it’s going to be pushing 3/4 ton trucks based off of their ratings. My 2020 Duramax actually has the 10000 GVWR so my payload is around 1900 pounds.
Now we know why it really squats those 1/2 ton trucks though lol. Over 1000 pounds of tongue weight.
Thanks Matthew! Yea I almost need to buy a WDH for my testing for 1/2 tons... I believe you need a WDH at 1100#’s of tongue but need to review this at some point to make sure I was reading that accurately. The only truck I may have been maxed out on was the Tundra.
With what you’re towing, you don’t really need a GVWR higher so you have plenty of capacity for your trailer.

Yeah I’m not worried about my GVWR. It’s mostly pencil whipped anyway from what I can tell from building and pricing GMs. I don’t think it actually changes anything on the truck. Still same size axles and such.
I look forward to the HD testing with this trailer. I am a little surprised how close to GVWR you are on the trailer though. That charger is really heavy!
Lol me too! I’m willing to bet I will exceed if I add a air conditioner.... I did have tools, air compressor, 5 gallon pail of fuel and a few other items. At best maybe 100#’s of equipment but not much more than that

Thanks Mark and glad the info is helpful! All you have to do is find a truck stop that has one, drive up on the scale, push the button, the person will ask new weigh or re-weigh, and once you answer, they will tell you to clear the scale. Go inside and pay for your slip 👍🏾
@@JB_WhoWork Thanks JB. I presume they weigh the front axle then the entire truck to get the rear axle. Also, I presume you have to make two runs, one with just the truck then another with the trailer (5th wheel) connected.
There’s basically 3 scales. The front axle will be on one, rear axle on the second, and trailer will be on the third scale. I unhooked my trailer right beside the scale to weigh my truck first then I re-hooked to weigh trailer with truck.

Do you have a limited, sunroof, spray on bed, prep, dual alternator, and limited level 1? Possible the black appearance shaved off some weight 🤔
I don’t have the sunroof but I do have the spray bed liner and single alternator including Laramie level 2 package and Customer Preferred Package 21H.
That’s what it is, I have a limited which adds some extra weight. I may go Laramie next truck for sure 👍🏾
I did some research on it, I was going to get the limited but a buddy of mine mentioned that I’ll just be paying more for the name. Now my worries are about the CP4. Any word on that?
When I built my Laramie and compared it to the Limited, I was about 4K difference in price sticker for sticker. The issue is some of the things I wanted came standard on limited and once you start adding packages to the Laramie, it jumped up pretty quickly.
I wouldn’t expect RAM to recall but just keep it lubricated with a good fuel system additive and the CP4 issues go down drastically. Seems like water and not enough lubrication kills it quicker 👍🏾. If it had an aluminum housing, that would solve some of our issues...

I agree, I would be happy with an 8 speeder. I feel like a 10 speed would probably give us a 3.42 axle again although it’s not a bad thing with a 10 speed trans
