This is the kind of content that should have gone into a damn dvd/bluray. But CBS only does cheap stuff like the cheap reboot they tried to impose on us. Nice try.

Shannen and Alyssa had a lot of great scenes together as Prue and Phoebe, in their three years together on the show. So even if they didn't get along in real life, they did a great job playing their characters and making an entertaining show for us to watch, and I think that's what really matters.

@Sprightly - True but I think this interview was done very early in the production of the series. In other words, this interview was done when Shannen and Alyssa still got along.
To be fair, there were many influences that led to Shannen's departure. Years after Shannen's involvement and following the end of the series, Holly has been somewhat outspoken with regard to a number of factors that led to the outcome. If every detail were to have been shared at the time, it would have been blown out of proportion. Constance Burge's acrimonious departure, Brad Kern's elevated involvement, creative differences with many male directors/producers, and Paramount's sudden manuever to provide the set with a mediator contributed to the on-set environment.
Just prior to the end of the series, Brad Kern wrote an eight page letter to Shannen in an effort bring Prue back; this was going to be for the series finale. Shannen's decision hinged upon the writing -- the narrative had to be compelling enough to warrant a return, but obviously Kern didn't provide an adequate treatment for the idea.

@@michaeld.williamsiii9026 I totally agree, I usually prefer action series like 24, Game of Thrones, The Flash and more but, the first seasons of Charmed, had mystery, comedy, drama, romance, and above all magic, i had never seen anything like it, it was original, they were literally superheroes saving the world and that is unforgettable and epic, it's a classic tv show.

It's sad the network and even media outlets just fail to acknowledge how iconic and legendary this show is. Even on the 20th anniversary magazines did nothing to celebrate it, but then shows like Supernatural get tribute magazines, 3 covers for one issue, etc. And honestly there would have been no Supernatural without Charmed.

I just think it's because of Alyssa and Rose. They don't talk to each other. Previously it was Shannen and Alyssa. So they probs couldn't get the original Charmed Ones together during the anniversary.

Charmed, especially Prue/Shannen, helped me through a difficult time in my life. I miss this Show, I miss my childhood and I just want to restart it and make everything better.
I just binged the whole series on DVD (in fact rewatching some episodes & DVD extras tonight). I was finally able to catch all the 1st run episodes I missed when I started working nights. It's truly helped me through a stressful time these past few weeks. I especially love that there was a female positive & powerful show for young women & all women for 8 years on the air. ♀
OMG me too, if I could turn back the hands of time and be in highschool again watching Charmed, I’d give anything...

Same I definitely wish I could restart my childhood and adolescence years I spent them back and forth between My native Charlotte and Ny when this show was on tv which was the 2000s that decade was the darkest part of my life since I moved up to ny when I was 12 I've spent almost 17 years trying to find some sort of stability and get things going I'm 28

This was when all was great. She was best friends with Holly for many years at that point. There was no drama whatsoever at this stage.

I love the original Charmed Ones. Shannen, Alyssa, and Holly were magical together.
Shannen isnt so much leaning away from Alyssa as she is leaning INTO Holly since they were really good friends already. Alyssa probably felt a little left out, but I don't think the tension started until probably the end of season 1 or the beginning of season 2
You are right. It takes time in many real life situations to bild relationships. Even bad, hostile ones. It was obvious between the two at the end of season 2 in my opinion.
Shannen hated Alyssa cuz she took Lori Rom the actress who first audition for the role of Phoebe couldn't continue to work for unknown reasons as those three are bff. Alyssa was left behind.

what i like is that Shannon really seemed to think about Prue's future. she mentions Astral projection, and then even goes on to say something about realignment and the planet. i wish we could have seen where that would have gone.

Nobody cares about their kids. I found Piper's children to be insufferable. I like the idea of parallel Earths.
As far as I know, Shannen and Alyssa got along up until the third season. You could tell that something was off after a couple of episodes. The scenes between Phoebe and Prue felt colder and colder and not real anymore in comparison to the first few episodes of season 3 and every single episode of season 1 ans 2 in which they actually behaved like real sisters. Then Paige stepped in and took on responsibility quite fast only to be ruined at the start of season 5... I'm glad that they were able to recreate that sisterly bond-feeling in season 7 a tiny little bit.
And in an interview not quite long ago, Alyssa stated that she and Shannen already had mend fences since Shannen was diagnosed with cancer. I wish we'd see all four of the actresses on screen together, but now it's Alyssa Milano vs. Rose McGowan I guess...
I think you can clearly see that Alyssa is kinda isolated from the other two and she seems bored, but i also believe that it's understandable, her character power back then were pretty basic and maybe she was a little jelous cause she didn't have anything "cool" to say about it... anyway, i always hate the fact that Prue didn't appear as a ghost while other family members did, especially in the final, i think they could've get her for at least one scene, but maybe Shannen didn't wanted to... too bad, i still hope in a film with all of them together with Rose for the power of four, i always imagined how would it be for Paige to meet Prue. Even if i hate her death i'm glad that Piper took her place, without her everything would've simply collapsed.
I'd heard that the show didn't have the budget to afford what Shannen or Julian (Cole) were asking as guest stars by the time the series hit season 8 and that's why we didn't see either of them at the end. And also Shannen apparently thought the way they brought Prue back made her seem ooc, so it fell through

No matter what personal issues these ladies have with each other they still created something phenomenal and amazing which will probably be a legendary TV show that will just have a life of its own no matter what. On a side note the body language in this interview is very telling Holly and Shannon's chairs are very close to each other while there is a gap in between Alyssa Milano and Shannon and if you look she's leaning more to her side that Holly is on and leaving that space between her and Alyssa.

Shannen and Holly were real life friends, Holly only got the job because Shannen told the production company she wouldn’t do It without her. However at the time Alyssa Milano and Shannen had the star power, both were on very popular shows “Who’s the boss” and 90210. Which is probably where alot of the tension came from. If you all remember there was another actress picked to play Phoebe until she dropped out, at that point the show would’ve been focused on Shannen with her being top billing and the top star. Once Alyssa was recasted after the pilot all of that shifted, the star playing field was now balanced which is essentially what created some of the drama

I wish the creators could appreciate Shannen Doherty's talent and stand up for her, it was a mistake to be blackmailed by Alyssa and her team. The show was great when Prue was there.❤

Holly and Shannen look and feel like sisters, while Alyssa’s just sitting there trying to fit in somehow. The producers are insane for getting rid of Shannen, she was the actual glue. Alyssa is cute, but she doesn’t have the power or binding energy that Shannen did to bring everything together. Her low-self esteem and insecurities ruined one of the greatest shows of all time. I cannot stand people like her.
… because Holly and Shannen had been best friends for years, of course they’re going to have more chemistry. You can’t put the entire blame on Shannen, Alyssa didn’t manufacture evidence of hostile work environment out of nowhere. It’s also well known Shannen tried to get Alyssa fired too (as Jason Priestly said in his book). Shannen and Holly even rejected mediation which could have helped everything.
No one was a saint in this situation.

:D When they try to explain that their characters are good witches, Holly indicates they're wiccans, whereupon Shannen seems to whisperingly deny that (2:24). It's funny because even though Shannen is technically right mumbling something about "religion" to Holly, during the first seasons of Charmed their magic is indeed referred to as Wicca - not only in dialogs but also in the episode titles.
Something Wicca This Way Comes. You're literally the only other person who caught that! Been scrolling to see if anyone else did. Yeah. I think its because they didn't want to offend people on morning TV.
I screamed @ “Phoebe power is to see the future… 😕” her reaction 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 did she hate that power? It actually helped the sisters quite a lot. I just wish the writers focused more on her powers than her relationships and image. Phoebe character showed so much potential in the early seasons.

How did Shannen know about her astral projection power already? It's clear this interview was filmed early in the first season. Is it possible that the producers wanted to bring her new power on season 1?
Well I think she got it pretty early in season 2 so maybe they were talking about it that soon. Or maybe it was planned all along, that their powers would grow and they had an idea for what that would be.

Apparently they had quite a good plan on the development of the show and where it was supposed to go. From what I've heard the plan was for Charmed to have five Seasons with the Source vanquish being the series finale. (I think they even had the idea at a very early point that one Sister was supposed to go over to the darkside for some episodes.) Shannen leaving, Rose coming in and the Shows popularity caused quite a change of plans and a lot of reasons why the continuity of Charmed was such a mess in the later Seasons.

@@flawlesscurl9166Season 1 to 3, are the best. Season 4 is a good transition season. Season 5 and 6 are both equally good and bad. Season 7 is where the show rose from its ashes and self destroyed afterwards. Season 8 will always be my least favorite.
I love how Holly and Shannen barely change their behavior from their characters that we watch on the tv show... like they are in character for the tv show but they put themselves in their characters so well that it is almost like they literally ARE the characters on AND off of the show
Piper did become Glenda in Season 3 and Prue did get the power to be in 2 places at once in Season 2

It takes time to build relationships in any life situation, including bad, hostile ones. Here they are at the begining. Holly and Shannon are good friends, but Alyssa and Shannon are still getting to know each other and they're polite for a couple of coworkers.
Shannen was a bridesmaid at Alyssas 1999 wedding so things couldn't have been that bad at this point or else they improved.

Funny how haters like to hate. They were each others bridesmaids after this. They were all very nice friends for the first season. Somewhere in season 2 Shan said she would cry every night. By season 3 it was Alyssa in full attack mode getting Shan fired because she wanted to be the star and first on the credits. She’s admitted she was jealous and wished her insecurities didn’t cause her to do what she did. The whole cast exposed it in recent times. Holly doesn’t bash anyone and boy did she have some disturbing views of Alyssa as a two faced woman and stated it was all about power and Alyssa’s need to be number 1. Oh well. That’s why none of the girls will have anything to do with her at the conventions.

I‘m sure she was talking about astral projection. I mean she was talking about their active powers and if she was talking about the episode „WPIIA“ she would have said „I‘ll be able to be at three places at one time“ plus she excluded the other Witches but they are able to multiply themselves too using a spell. I‘m sure she knew.

Constance M. Burge was the creator of Charmed and the executive producer for the first 2 seasons, so I imagine she probably had lots of things planned out in advance. Also Shannen has said that playing the same character for a long time gets boring for her, so I bet she was promised her character would have another power down the line in order to keep things interesting. She was considered the big star of the show when it first started out, so I imagine she wanted certain things, stated that she wanted them, and got them.
@@disconnected9765 I think it was shot between 1x09 and 1x12, so it showed how focused writing was back then. I miss that. How old shows had the whole series planned out from the beginning. And didn’t let fans, politics and medias, influenced scripts/plots.

It's been so many years and I still don't accept that Shannen has left the cast. how much I would have liked the three of them to have remained together forever, how wonderful it would have been to see the evolution of the character of bow over the course of all the seasons. this is an injustice. shannen was wrong to go away !!!!!

It should be "Brad Kern was wrong for firing Shannen".
I'd say it's less of "wish Shannen stayed" and more of "if the series stayed forever the way it was in the first 3 seasons". But it didn't, and if Prue was in seasons 4-8 the quality of those seasons would have tarnished her character as well.
She'd be the woman that was awesome at first, but then became a grating loony along with the other 2.

In my head, "Charmed" was a 3 seasons show that ended in tragedy. And then there was a shitty sequel that lasted 5 seasons by itself.
Also, Shannen not liking to play the same character and wanting to change, would have likely meant that if Shannen stayed, she'd insist Prue changes personality and becomes a completely different person in seasons 4-8 than she was in 1-3.

Shannen is sorry she left too. She regrets that and she's said that several times. So yeah. She said it was childish of her and that she wasn't mature enough to have a kind of perspective and let silly things go instead of getting angry about them.

Yall peep Alyssa roll her eyes when Shannon said “I kinda did” about using her character power for everyday things. Nch...yikes. I really feel like she pushed for all those random extra powers when she was with Cole during the show behind the scenes. I always thought Phoebe was the weakest sister/character written. She’s a psychic but oblivious to most things/danger? Never once psychically sensed Cole was still evil? I know it’s for plot but, eh, so many diff directions to go.
Actually, if it wasn't for Phoebe using her emotional powers which made Cole fall in love with her, he would have killed them in season 2. Phoebe actually saved them. If you notice also in Apocalypse Not, she flirts with one of the other demons and he flirts with her back. Phoebe's power is more than just being psychic, she's not only an empathy but she can manipulate emotions. In the 7 deadly sins episode she was lust. The lessons that come with her power is emotional control and not being swept up by emotions. She even gets punished by the Elders at one point for it. Phoebe is probably the best written character on the show.

I see it more as their unhealthy love for each other, and her leaning towards bad growing up, and her pattern of choosing evil (remember her past life) blinded her and her psychic powers completely. The ones she had the longest and first. The ones which at some point should have grown in season 4 from "I touch and get visions" to "I just get visions". She was literally impregnated by him while he and the Seer manipulated the literal "I touch you and me and my sisters are visually warned from danged" Charmed one into being the queen of all evil? Not magically, which is where I checked out writing was. I love Phoebe, but I personally consider her the weakest of the four.

All I'm saying is, if t wasn't for Phoebe, Cole would have ended the Charmed Ones because he was waaaaaaaaaay more powerful than them as a half human half demon. The Charmed Ones magic would never have worked on him without Phoebe "attacking" his human side by falling in love with him. Whenever the Charmed Ones were magically stumped, they'd call in Cole for help because he was just magically superior. He even became an Avatar and manipulated timelines (even Tempus couldn't do that). Her power wasn't wild with VFX but from a writing point of view it was solid. I can't tell you how many times I've used that same trick to get outta trouble.
@ScribblebytesWorldwide Cole wasn't in season 2 and Phoebe didn't even get her empathy powers until season 6. Even the showrunners knew that was a complete joke because she lost that and levitation in season 6 and never got them back.

Well said :) Yeah, they're all super- talented and gorgeous but Phoebe was just so beautiful and amazing to me when I was young :) Holly and Shannen were already friends before the show started and I guess add to that personalities clashing and it just didn't go very well for Alyssa and Shannen, unfortunately, and Holly was stuck in the middle. I did hear that Alyssa reached out to Shannen and apologised for her part of the feud though, so that's nice.
