This is where she brings me to heaven for a little while - that beautiful voice!
I wonder where she goes and what she sees when she closes those beautiful eyes.
There's a lot of closed eyes in this song, but with the voice she has, and the way she's using it, there's no need to see her eyes to feel emotionally connected with her warm and empathic soul - it all comes with the voice, heart to heart, bypassing all conscious senses.
Good that she has an empathic soul because how many million Americans have lost this?
When she mentioned on that show The View that she began singing jazz at 1-1/2, that's all
you really have to know. The girl has been astounding listeners ever since then and will for
years to come. Personally, I don't know any other singer who can just invade my inner being
with feeling, the way she does. Any genre she takes on, always results in a superb performance.
It seems that Angelina just pushes all the words with all her being and her soul !!! Thank you !!!

My heart goes out to Chrissy and John, who recently lost their baby boy Jack at about 24 months into her pregnancy. Having experienced that twice, once with our first child at 8 months into the pregnancy, and again when my daughter lost her first child at about the same place in her pregnancy, there has never been two more emotionally traumatic times in my life. And I wasn't carrying the child. John and Chrissy have two children (one 4 and the other 2) to hug and cherish, which will help them in the recovery process. We can all send our thoughts and prays to Chrissy and John and their family.
I always love your comments, and I learn something every time. Angelina's performance of this song is about as good as it gets. I love John's version, but for me, this is better. We all now await the release of her new album (suppose to be all originals). I think she is with a very good company that has a history of respecting the wishes of the artist they sign, e. g. Taylor Swift. But the pandemic makes promoting and marketing the product very challenging. Because of this, the album may not be released till some time next year.

It almost seems like she's singing to her fans "all of me" loves all of her fans. Perhaps a stretch but it kinda feels that way when she opens her eyes and reaches out her hand when she sings "you."

Hi, love your reactions to AJ. You actually answered one of two questions I had about AJ, the first being why she closes her eyes so often when she sings. The other question I had is AJ seems to almost express what she sings with her arms and hand movements almost like she is singing with her hands, crazy aye but her hand movements actually draw me into the song. Sorry I’m not a singer just something I’ve noticed when AJ sings. Keep reacting to AJ, I’ve learnt so much from your reactions.
Some singers use their hands more than others, maybe it helps with the timing, since she tends to sing after the beat it's a bit more complicated. If you watch Pentatonix, they all use their hands. Timing in an acapella group has to be even more critical.
Not to mention Aurora, - her hands and movements are such a part of her performance and she wasn't really aware of it before she saw this captured on film...

I always like your Angelina reactions. It's nice to hear about some of the technical things that make Angelina great from someone that actually knows about singing. A lot of us just listen and know it's great, but don't necessarily understand why. If your insights can help other singers capture even a little bit of the magic that Angelina has, then you are doing the world a favor ;)

interestingly angelina was asked in an interview what social media she was most active on and she answered " i'm not really into social media as i think it takes away from my creativity " wise behind her years... love ur analysis...angelina's uncle said they refused to sign with AGT until they got a contract that released them from any and all contracts with AGT...AGT used her for ratings and she used them for exposure in the US. this is why they leaked " yellow brick road " b4 2nd round aired...independent polls had her receiving 2/3 of vote to be the winner...angelina is the one who went to her uncle and asked him to move to the US to further her career. she references to this in her original song "shield " which is a tribute to her mother and family who protect her on her musical journey. the line is " forgive me for all that i am " powerful stuff for a 12 year old...thanks again...

From what I read, AGT tried to get her on for a long time but her mgr/Uncle refused because of the contract requirements. AGT finally waved their standard contract & she was able to perform. Her Uncle then negotiated with Republic who were more interested in Angelina's long term career & not rushing for immediate financial rewards.
Watching you react to others, I notice She takes you! Reaches right in there & holds you with trust!

Yes all that talk about talent at times can feel a bit dismissive of the hard work put into it.

Pure She has everything but the singer knees but she has more than that it’s hard to explain her sense of timing her ability to change songs not disrespectfully but to make it her own and keep the same song but it’s a different song I kind a liked what she does with her voice it’s like there’s a black key piano that’s the note she wants to hit but she dances around that make a difference sound so she’s ready to hit that note I watched her do it she was in Norway on stage and when the guitar player. she stepped back and gave him his space so professional so respectful

I don’t know what it is about her voice. Just about any song she sings makes me cry a good cry. Not many things in life does this to me . My heart is somehow in line with the tone of her voice. The sound of her voice is so soothing and hypnotic that my mind goes to places in my past. Some memories are sorrowful and painful and just by listening to her angelic voice some how makes everything better and replaces them with joy and happiness. Voices like this only come once in a life time. God Bless You Angelina Jordan! Thank you for precious gift you have given the world with your songs.

I loved this reaction. You are almost as smitten as I am. The most amazing thing to me is that she uses her incredible voice to emote things that she shouldn’t be able to do at her age. It’s like she can touch parts of your emotions that no one else can.

I totally agree with you that Angelina has put a lot of work into fine tuning her craft but that doesn't mean that her voice, musicality and interpretative abilities can be taught. They are totally natural to her as we've seen even in her very early performances.
Good point also when you say she makes adult songs seem more appropriate to her age. IMO, Angelina's delivery taps into a more universal love, loss and joy, rather than the romantic intention those original songs were written about.
It’s interesting that you commented about imagery. I do a little writing exercise with my elementary students. I turn the lights down and have them shut their eyes and listen to a piece of music. I always choose an instrumental. I ask the students to listen and try to think about what emotions the music makes them feel or what images they imagine. Then after the music is done I ask that they write about what they felt or imagined. Most of them can come up with emotions but every so often I find a young students that can bring that music to life with their imaginations. Thanks for your intuition into this special young artist. I always love to hear what you say.

I'm quite sure that's exactly the place where she goes by closing her eyes (the place she mentioned in the interview hereabove) and brings back to us the essence of it or if you're able to leave your "body" for a while, the place where she brings you through her voice's bridge!!!😍
What a wonderful reaction as always. Just a couple of things. English is Angelina's third language not her second which makes it that much more admirable. Secondly, Angelina has stated that she closes her eyes to go to a magical world!

Hi Valerie, I just want to say great reaction & a wonderful break down. I appreciate how you let the viewers know about the God given talent Angie has, But also how much work she puts into it. If I remember right, she sings about 4-5 hrs a day. Also English is her 3rd langauge. She can sing in 4. I can't wait for you to react to the songs on Angie's new CD when it comes out. I have a song she sung that you can't get anymore. It from another reactor, but he doesn't react to it until the song is over. Angie gets as low as A2 or B2 I think, maybe you'll know. No one really, most great singers will close their eyes when singing to feel the music. Some musicians see music in colors or feelings.
She told us in an Interview, when she close her eyes, she goes to an endless world of happyness. I think there is her musicbox 😁

Some people think that when a singer is closing their eyes, they are not connecting with their audience. Or are being self indulgent. I completely disagree. Most of the greats close their eyes at least some of the time. The other bias against eye closing comes from the high school & collegiate training in singing. In high school and college, singers sing in choirs and usually sing classical solos in voice. Singers in opera and musical theater and choir are trained to focus on other people (conductor, duet partner, accompanist) so they usually keep their eyes open. And this is why many singers with collegiate training find it difficult to sing in more contemporary settings.

It's always a bit of a relief to hear you react (I admit I only listen to things Angelina). Effortless power. Sounds pretty adult to me. Such a lovely ballad. You might like her Happier; it's another departure. I have pointed out elsewhere that the jazz greats she grows out of did practically nothing but covers; I'm not sure she needs to write her own material. I love to watch her close her eyes and move her hands so naturally.
Valerie, you remain one my favorite music reactors. I always appreciate the expertise and insight that a professional singer, and coach brings to such things, but I appreciate even more the sheer joy that you convey when a singer really gets it right, when they “become the music”, as you say.
Hi, if you haven't heard Dir En Grey yet you are really missing out. The vocalist is unbelievable & so is the band. They are a Japanese band & they are amazing. I'd love it if you would consider reacting to Dir en Grey - Vinushka [ANDROGYNOUS a view of the Acro ], it's live in Japan & is one of the best performances I ever seen & I guarantee you won't be disappointed, also you don't need eng subs to understand what the song is about, there is a screen behind the band with visuals so it's easy to figure it out. Also you don't need to worry about getting a copywrite strike on this video. Kyo is definitely one of the best vocalist in the world & you really should hear him. I hope you'll react to it someday.

Love her phrasing, how she fits the lyrics to the music. Unique.
It's like she's reading a text in an interesting way. Mindful of a Cantor, gospel choir, imams, other religious presenters. They knew this style works to get an emotional expression of the text.
Notable that she always chooses songs with meaningful lyrics, maybe not even consciously.
This may just be my opinion, but i think Angelina is unusually "conscious" in everything she does and the songs she picks and even every effect (melismas?) she uses in a song

@@Malibonus David Foster was a judge when she got golden buzzer on World Got Talent and said he hadn't seen anything like it since he saw Celine Dion when she was 18. Also said she is going to make it around the world. Celine was 11 and I think I will trust his opinion.
