Great walk-around update. Wish I was there. Building a different aircraft (KitFox STi). If you get this and are around BetterAircraft Fabrics or any Red or Blue OraTex covered aircraft would love to get some close ups of finish quality vs a painted version!
Machined flap tracks will most certainly be in the kit. It’s the only way to get the precise fowler motion. With modern cnc machines they can spit them out like cupcakes. The tail LE might inly be removable because they were trying different configurations. It seems like it would be an unnecessary weight penalty to have it removable. The ailerons seem small. If it was anyone but Vans I’d predict they got that wrong having flown a couple of its competitors who had insufficient roll power
As for the machined flap tracks, it was brought up by the vans representative at the show. He mentioned a steep cost of approximately 500 each and there are 6 of them, which would add $3000 to the overall cost. They know that is steep and my understanding is that they are exploring options to mitigate the higher cost for the end user.
@@112_adventures- $500 each for the flap tracks might be for the prototype. My experience having things milled is that once they start making batches, that cost drops dramatically.

At approx 4:03 in the video, I say “looks like the leading edge is smaller”. Meaning I believe they made the removable leading edge have a smaller footprint, I.e., narrower.
@@112_adventures in a video they did at the beginning of the year they said the wing would move back a few inches making for a sleeker windshield. That setup would also require the flap lever to be moved to the floor. Maybe even a smaller vertical stab as well. Still no cargo door installed. I almost wonder with such huge structural changes if that prototype is still in development back at the factory and this old one was sent back out to do the PR.

Are the rivets plain pop rivets or they have stems to fill the hole and lock the rivet like the cherry lock fasteners?

Looks like Vans Aircraft has re-created the Cessna 140.
Much closer in size to a 170, but with a larger engine and more back country capabilities.

I,m very interested in the Sonex high wing. I,m not into off airport stol planes. I like fast ,comfortable and more economical cross country craft.
