      @@caramel076 I wasn't aware that DART services went north of Malahide. OHLE stops just before the bridge that partially collapsed a few years ago [rebuilt since though!]

    They need to electrify all of the Dublin commuter services before the end of the decade at the least

    Coming from the U.K. where I’ve lived 20 years on SailRail from Holyhead and from Manchester Piccadilly via Chester or Crewe, the (wonderfully) super long Dublin DART trains with level boarding and wide gangways is essential when carrying a heavy suitcase and is such a pleasure - I have used the DART frequently when I’ve come home to Ireland, as I’ve got friends near Sandymount, so it’s a joy to be able to connect from M3 Parkway at Dublin Connolly to always find a seat on the DART, that is a rarity on Manchester Metrolink trams - the only improvements I’d suggest is to have DART service a bit earlier when arriving off the ferry at 6am when that coach drops you off at Tara St, even better if the DART (or DART underground) operated all the way to the Irish Ferries/Stena Terminals at North Wall to complement the expansion of the port to take cruise ships and frankly, I’m surprised the LUAS line has not been extended well beyond the 02 Arena/Gibson Hotel, not even Dublin Docklands Station

    What's the speed at which the Commuter trains travel?

    • @ciandaly6214
      @ciandaly6214  11 місяців тому

      The 29000s and 2800s can do 75mph (120km/h), the 2600s can do 70mph (112km/h) and the ICRs can do 100mph (160km/h).

      @@ciandaly6214 Thanks for repying. But do they hit those speeds when they are running on a daily basis or does the speed drop when they are running on certain stretches of the route.

    One thing I did note was that Iarnród Éireann[IE] were sending diesels down to Bray[Bré]. Isn't that wasting precious diesel fuel,when a perfectly good electric DART service operates there already. IE will also suffer when diesel becomes scarce in the future,just like all the other rail companies.
